Well, if you mean love as in sibling love, then everyone should be for it. But if you mean as a bf and gf, then few people are going to be for it. That's known as an inbreed, and in our society is looked down upon greatly. But I'm fine with it. True love conquers all, including things like that.

I was always stuck in the middle when deciding what to think of a situation like this.

At first, I went with society and thought that 'incest' between a brother and sister was wrong. Mainly for the two following reasons; 1) It was just disturbing to me. You grow up alongside someone who shared much of your DNA (perhaps you even grew in the womb with this person), and shared such good times and hard times with him/her, but once you reach puberty or adulthood, it turns from love to romance??? 2) The child that can result from this situation. I'm not trying to say that the child would be a "mistake" if born. No children are mistakes to me. But a child born from incest are known to most likely have severe deformities due to the mother's and father's DNA being so similar. Also, when the child is old enough to attend school and one were to discover his parentage....imagine what kind of torment that child would have to endure. The person who discovered this would go and tell this person, this person would tell that person....well, you know how each and every one of us can become such a gossiper! This child would be stigmatized endlessly, and bullying leads to numerous troubles for children and teenagers.

I was 100% against a brother-sister relationship due to these two reasons.

But as I thought more about it, I began to think this to myself;
What exactly makes romance between siblings so wrong? Besides what I stated above, what other reasons are there? Is this simply an idea we have created on our own of 'incest', and if yes how are we fully positive that it's the right idea? What if we, in some insane way, are abusing one's right to love?

These are just my thoughts; Parts of me think it's wrong, but many parts are questioning whether it's wrong or not.
What do you guys think?

It's funny that you're asking this question since it was something we talked about in Psych not too long ago.
The thing is, I don't like any of these options. I'm neither for nor against. I'm very open-minded, so I would never look down upon or judge someone who was involved in a relationship like this. I, however, would never ever do it myself. As long as the brother/sister that are in a relationship are careful and use protection, there's no legitimate reason why they shouldn't be together. Society considers incest a taboo though so I'm sure a majority of the comments for this pick will be along the lines of "GROSS!" or "WTF is wrong with you?" I however, as said before, am neither for nor against it (but not undecided either).

Oh, and sorry to be a Psych nerd, but it's all thanks to the Social Intuitionist Theory (that emotions precede morals. So a lot of people disagree with it since they have the initial gut reaction of "eww" and can not give a good explanation, other than messed up babies, as to why incest is bad.)

I personally just don't think it's right and like people have said, it can cause major problems with offspring.

But I believe people are so grossed out by it not so much because of biology but because that's just how they've been raised. It's taboo, disgusting in our society. Children are strictly socialised to think that and are therefore not going to question that. (Sociology nerd here!)

Also, it's not uncommon or abnormal for children to 'experiment' with siblings.

I'm not against it because of society or 'I think it's wrong' or whatever. I'm against it, because of the deseases inbreeding causes to the children. Now, if they plan on no kids, then it is a little wierd, but if they love each other, then that's all they need.

as long as its a two way thing and one is not forced into it then no one has the right to say that love is wrong regardless who is loving who.

Ah. Forgot something though.
Is this strictly sister.brother? Or any? Like adopted or half or what?
Cause adopted isn't really anything. Ya know. Like they'd only be related by a piece of paper. o.o I don't really agree with it, but I don't really see it as wrong. Ya know?

I'm no fan of enforcing moral standards by law. And saying that I'm "against" incestuous relationships would seem to do that, BUT for a few things. The children that are borne of such relationships often have significant issues relating to their genetic composition and may suffer greatly. It is also commonly a form of abuse or paedophilia, when an older sibling (normally an older brother) coerces a younger sibling (normally a younger sister) into an incestual relationship.

It's not the same as marriage equality or cross-dressing, and people shouldn't equate it to those things. Rather than the mere fact that people find incest repulsive (which is not necessarily a reason to ban something), there are logic-based reasons as well as these emotion-based reactions.

Ultimately there's more at play here than "let people love who they want!!". There needs to be consideration of the impact it can have on resulting children, as well as the possible victims of abuse that incest allows. It's for these reasons that prohibiting such relationships is acceptable, and even desirable.

I'm not going to look down my nose at someone that's in a consensual relationship with someone they're related to, but I do have a problem with people choosing to have children with a close relative, because of the genetic abnormalities that follow.

I would never engage in an incestuous relationship, but it's not my business if someone else chooses to do so, and I don't think it's my place to judge if it's consensual and nobody will be harmed by it (ie: the children born from such a relationship)

@8thegreat There's a chance for such a thing but there's reason to believe that percentage isn't as high as was originally thought. Surely not much more than a regular relationship. By all means how many times in history were there incestual relationships in which no genetic disorder was counted. I think that's a myth or so than anything to be honest but other that that I agree.

^It is actually multiple generations of inbreeding that causes it. One generation isnt generally bad. I just think there are other issues that could come to the children in the long run. And generally speaking here, its been a bit imprinted into my mind that incestual relationships are bad so I was kinda raised with it. Honestly though, Im really close to For. Cause really, love is love. If you love your brother/sister in that way, its cool. Though I cant go without saying that the idea is still a bit bitter in my mouth. (I was going to say sweet as I developed an odd taste for bitter lately but even if I were to explain that it might confuse people XD)
