As you probably know, I have six rats right now. Well, the five baby rats are no longer little 2 ounce babies. They are just about full grown. They have an enormous bungalow that is taller than me, and could easily house 10 rats! They have all the room they could wish for. We spoil them rotten with peanut butter sandwiches and a buffet of brocolli and cheese cubes. They are doing well, and all seem to get along fine. They are SO cute and live by the cage door, wanting out. I just felt like updating on how the rats are doing if you have heard of them from other comments and forums. :)
While reading an e-mail from one of my rat groups I read about an interesting phenomenon called GGMR. After discovering what the acronym stood for I burst out laughing. Although the catchphrase was new to me, the reality of its existence was longstanding, and entirely too familiar. GGMR-Gotta Get More Rats.
GGMR has a few distinct causes. First of all, it is the wonderful personalities and absolute cuteness of rats. The more you are around rats, the more you love them. After a few days with my first boys, I knew I could never be without rats. Their...
Mars recently funded a deadly experiment on rats to determine the effects of chocolate ingredients on their blood vessels. Experimenters force-fed the rats by shoving plastic tubes down their throats and then cut open the rats' legs to expose an artery, which was clamped shut to block blood flow. After the experiment, the animals were killed. Mars has also funded cruel experiments in which mice were fed a candy ingredient and forced to swim in a pool of a water mixed with white paint. The mice had to find a hidden platform to avoid drowning, only to be killed and dissected later on. In yet...
Does anyone know how to stop rats from being food aggressive? I have a pair that will chomp anything that smells good whether it's food or not and I cannot open their cage without them treating my fingers like carrots. They're really sweet and somewhat smart, though. They know their own names and like to groom my hands when on my bed with me and tour the house on my shoulders.
My sister's two boys don't bite anything unless it's in their food bowl.
