Romeo had just married Juliet, Tybalt's kinsman, thus becoming Tybalt's kinsman. He didn't want to fight his kinsman, even if that kinsman didn't know they had just recently become related.

Yeah, ur all right, Romeo doesn't want to fight Tybalt because he's married to Juliet so Tybalt is related to him now because Tybalts Juliets cousin. They do fight later in this scene though, after Tybalt kills Mercutio.
