EW: Rose McGowan Looks Back on Filming Scream

In honor of the release of Scream 4 this Friday, EW is looking back at the original 1996 film and talking to cast members about their best production memories. Rose McGowan played Tatum Riley, the spunky best friend to Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott and sister to David Arquette’s Dewey. McGowan’s most famous moment came when Tatum was attacked by Ghostface in her boyfriend’s garage and defended herself by throwing beer bottles. Says McGowan, “I’m known to have the worst aim on the planet, and so when I was throwing the beer bottles [at Ghostface], I shattered the lens of the camera.” EW talked to McGowan about the original Scream, dying her hair blonde for the role, and the time she and Arquette crashed a prom party.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Do you remember reading the script for the first time?

ROSE MCGOWAN: I thought it was a fantastic script when I got it. I was so green — I didn’t really have a good reference point for a whole lot other than that I like a good story and it was certainly a good yarn. I really liked the character a lot. The...

Brief Children Spring Dinner Dance Interview

Rose McGowan is doing her best to look as young as she can for as long as possible.

The actress, 37, shares her beauty do’s and don’ts – and one the facet of her life that grows more precious with time.

When it comes to her beauty do’s, Rose rattles off a few top tips as her boyfriend Rob Adams stands in the background.

“Always use moisturizer, and always wash your face,” she tells me at A Fool’s Fete Spring Dance hosted by New Yorkers for Children to benefit youth in foster care held Tuesday at Mandarin Oriental in NYC.

What’s her beauty don’t?

“Don’t smoke,” she tells me. “You’ll look like an old hag if you smoke!”

One “old thing” she holds onto is her Scream buddies.

“Of course I’ll go see Scream 4,” she says. “I’m excited about seeing the old gang. I see Neve [Campbell] from time to time, I see Courteney [Cox] from time to time, and I see David [Arquette] more than anybody.”

Amy Smart on Rose McGowan

Amy Smart discusses Rose McGowan in an interview with Dread Central and had the following sweet words to say about our girl:

“She was really fun,” said the actress. “She’s funny and witty and sarcastic, and while we didn’t have that many scenes together in Dead Awake, we definitely spent a lot of time together in Des Moines, and I think she’s really talented. It was the type of character she’s never played before. She’s known as the gorgeous bombshell who can act, and in this film it was so outside of anything she’s played, and I think she did a great job. I know that she was definitely pushed out of her comfort zone, and what’s fun as an actor is to take risks at things that you think you may fail at and to go for it and to grow and to expand.”

Dead Awake

In Dead Awake Rose McGowan play Charlie.

[i]What if a stranger held the key to the darkest moment of your life? Dylan (Nick Stahl) is haunted by his past. While searching for answers, he befriends a mysterious woman (Rose McGowan) and is reunited...

Rose McGowan Talks About Growing Up with Drag Queens

In a new interview with The Advocate, Rose McGowan revealed that she grew up around drag queens and even went out to gay clubs as a middle schooler. The goth-chic actress, who dated Marilyn Manson for three years, says her unconventional childhood helped her become accepting.

When McGowan moved from her birthplace in Italy to the U.S., she was teased at her school in Portland, Oregon. As a young teen, she found comfort after being taken in "by the most amazing drag queens" who would dress her up as characters like Charlie Chaplin and take her out on the town. "There was so much camaraderie and love," she told the LGBT-interest magazine.

Although McGowan says she's straight and has never kissed a girl, she always felt embraced at gay clubs. "Whether it was how I danced or the way I looked, I was always quite celebrated in the gay clubs. To this day, I only go to gay clubs. I’m perfectly at home there," she said.
