"This means we have to go somewhere they would never think to look!" I said.
A bus passed by. There was an ad on the side.
EXPLORE THE AMAZON! TICKETS CHEAP! CALL 1-800-BUY-AMAZON!
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Francisco said.
"If you're thinking the Amazon, then yes!" I exclaimed. I pulled out my phone, called 1-800-BUY-AMAZON, and bought two tickets. "Okay, we have $2,000 in total, and the tickets were $30 each. That leaves us with $1,700 to get to our next destination."
"Okay." Francisco said.
Then, the weirdest thing happened. I felt a lump in my pocket. Rose petals. The pattern was happening again. But I had more important things to focus on.
"The plane to the Amazon leaves in an hour. We should go now." I said.
Francisco nodded. The Daring Duo off on another adventure!
3 HOURS LATER...
Man, was it muggy in the Amazon! We saw so many animals! Francisco and I decided to enjoy the sights. We explored the beautiful lakes, and trees, and exotic animals.
"Hey, I have something for you." Francisco said. His hands were behind his back. "Close your eyes."
I closed my eyes and held out my hands, giggling. When I opened my eyes, there was a rose in my hands. I gasped. I was starting to get really freaked out now.
"What, are you allergic? Do you not like roses?" Francisco asked. He sounded really worried.
"No. It's nothing. I'm just surprised." I said. I could feel myself blushing. I was being silly. So my boyfriend gave me a flower that was turning up all over the world with me? That's not suspicious at all, right?
We stopped for lunch at a small cafe. And on the TV was the worst news of the day.
"TWO YOUNG CHILDREN RUNNING FROM POLICE. REWARD FROM PARENTS IF FOUND." They showed our pictures, and the reward. $35,000. In this economy, people would do anything for that money. No one seemed to notice us, so we ate quickly, paid, and ran out of the cafe. As we left, I swear I heard someone say, "Hey, are those the kids from the TV?"
"Okay," Francisco panted when we were far enough from the cafe. "We're not safe here. How about we try Russia?"
"Why Russia?" I asked.
"Because. I have a feeling they won't care."
Still, to be safe, we put on disguises when we arrived in Russia. We dressed in clothes all the locals were wearing. We blended in perfectly!
"Francisco, we could spend the rest of our time here!" I exclaimed, drawing no attention, unlike in Paris.
"I love it here, too!" he said. "And I speak German! We'll do fine!"
We held hands, taking in the sights, watching street shows, and looking for a place to work and live. Life was going to be perfect.
A YEAR LATER...
"Happy birthday!" Jennie cried. Jennie was a friend we met who spoke English. Her uncle let us work in his restaurant. And Jennie, our age, let us stay in her small house.
"Yay! Fourteen!" Francisco turned fifteen a while ago, and Jennie was three moths older than me, but we were all close.
The police had given up the search for me, and my parents went back to their daily lives with their new baby girl, Diamond. I never knew her, but still, I despised her. My parents came out on the news, saying how happy they were with their new baby girl, who was going to grown up to be a doctor like daddy, or a scientist, like Mom. Ugh.
Francisco and I celebrated our one year anniversary last month. Jennie and I had a girls night out every Saturday.
My future: marrying Francisco and working for Jennie's uncle and living with her. I'd never been happier.
