Selena Gomez & the Scene (aka Selena & the Scene) is an American pop rock band that formed in 2009. The band consists of Selena Gomez on lead vocals, Ethan Roberts on guitar, Joey Clement on bass, Greg Garman on drums, and Dane Forrest on keyboards.

During an interview with Jocelyn Vena, of MTV in August 2008, Selena Gomez said of her future music career that: "I'm going to be in a band — no 'Selena Gomez' stuff. I'm not going to be a solo artist. I think that I don't want my name attached to it. I will be singing, and I'm learning drums and playing electric guitar."[5] Gomez later announced, via Twitter, that her band would be called The Scene.[6] It is an "ironic jab" at the people who called the frontwoman "wannabe scene."[6] The band released their debut studio album, Kiss & Tell on September 29, 2009. The album debuted at number nine on the U.S. Billboard 200 with sales of over 66,000 copies in its first week of release.[7]

Gomez has said in several interviews (including one with Z100 New York[8]) that she hand-picked The Scene during a long, exhausting audition process. She said it was worth it, though, because she has a great band. However, soon after joining the band, keyboardist Nick Foxer was replaced by Dane Forrest because Foxer was reportedly busy with his marriage.

Current band members:
Selena Gomez - Lead vocals
Greg Garman- Drums, vocals
Joey Clement - Bass, backing vocals
Ethan Roberts - Guitar, vocals
Dane Forrest - Keyboards, backing vocals

Former band members:
Nick Foxer - Keyboards, backing vocals[citation needed]

Both drummer Greg Garman and lead vocalist Selena Gomez have said that Paramore is one of their favorite bands, with Gomez listing the band as a personal influence, saying, "[Paramore] gave me the inspiration of being in a band." Gomez has also said that her namesake Selena Quintanilla inspired her to persue a career in music. The frontwoman has expressed appreciation for Forever The Sickest Kids, Kelly Clarkson, No Doubt, Jason Mraz, Fefe Dobson, and Christina Aguilera, and lead guitarist Ethan Roberts has expressed appreciation for the band Journey.

When asked about plans for a new single the frontwoman said:

"I think we might go right into the second album so it might be something completely different. Hopefully we'll get the next single out before the summer because [we] have a new song that's just a really fun summer song and I want it out really soon!"[24] The record's first single, "Round & Round", premiered on June 18, 2010.[25] The accompanying music video, which was filmed in Budapest, premiered two days later.[26]
