'She wanted more money. I told her no but she kept on pushing. She told me she would do more riskier jobs so i gave her one. But little did i know, she was wearing a wire. I manged to avoid the police and I tracked her down. She begged me not to hurt her, she said she would do anything. I told her she had to leave and work with me on bring you down.'

'Because you foiled so many of my crimes. I needed time to plan my revenge. But when i found out you were her boyfriend i thought i could use this to my advantage. So i told her to fake her death to make you go mad on drugs.' He raised the gun. 'But that clearly didn't work. So i guess the gun will have to do.'

'Yes but i thought you might of OD on the stuff, it would have saved me the hassle.'
'So that's your plan? Your just going to shoot me?.'

Joan woke up in the hospital. She looked to her left and saw Gregson sitting in the chair.

'Ok, i guess.' She looked up at the drip which was attached to her arm. 'Never thought i'd be attached to one of these.'
'Your lucky, you were only dehydrated.' Joan looked round the room.
'Where's Sherlock?.' Gregson said nothing. 'Thomas, where is he?.'
'...He let you go but only if Sherlock promised to go back inside.'
'And you let him?.'
'He ran back inside before i could even talk to him. My main priority was to get you to the hospital.'
'I know and i'm grateful for that but you could have stopped him. Shouldn't you be back there?.'
'My men are still in their positions. I told them to wait until Sherlock comes out.'
'What if he doesn't?.'
'Shooting me won't help. There is still a police force out there.'
'You think i don't have an escape plan?.'
'Fine but before you do, can i make a last request?.'

'Gregson, it's me.' Gregson went outside the room so Joan couldn't hear. 'Holmes, where are you and what's going on?.'
'I'm still in the building and it seems i won't be leaving.'

'Can you put Joan on?.'
'Holmes, do you think she's been through enough?.'
'So i don't even get to say goodbye?.'
