Sherlock woke early and went into Joseph's room. He stood over his cot and watched him sleep. He took one of his hands in his, he was so small. He looked out the window at New York, thinking about the trail ahead of him. He thought he'd be around to see him grow up, it looks far less likely now. He didn't hear Joan come in.
'Hey, it's early.'
'I couldn't sleep.' Joan looked down at Joseph. 'Been thinking about things.'
'Sherlock, you have nothing to worry about. They jury will see though her lies.'
'We hope.' Sherlock picked him up. 'I'd hate to leave you two.'
'You won't.' Sherlock smiled at her then kissed Joesph's head. 'He loves you, you know.'
'How can you tell?'
'Mother's intuition.' They went downstairs and found Mycroft watching the news. 'Hey.'
'Hey.' They looked at the screen, they were covering the trial. 'Sherlock, you don't..'
'I'm fine.' He looked intensely at the screen, noticing every person, every flicker of movement. He took in every, single word that was said. From every truth to every lie.
'What's he doing?'
'He has this room where there are six TVs set up and he tries to remember what's on every screen, from setting to text. He sometimes does it while watching the news.' Joan took Joseph from Sherlock. 'I'm gonna get his bottle ready.' She went into the kitchen. When Sherlock finished, he sat down on the couch and stayed silent. Mycroft knew that look.
'She won't get away with it, everyone knows that she and her lawyer are both liars and they have no evidence to even suggest that you did anything to her. You've noting to worry about.' Sherlock turned the TV off.
'And what if your wrong? What happens then? Hmm? I got to jail and never see my son again or worse, they check Joan to make sure i haven't... I can't lose her again.' Mycroft got up and fetched his coat. 'Where are you going?'
'Be back in a bit.' The door shut.
It been a couple of hours, Sherlock still hadn't heard from Mycroft. Joan went out with Joseph awhile ago, leaving him to his own devises. He sat, perusing old cases, hoping for a distraction. His phone suddenly vibrated a text from Gregson.
'Meet me at the peer in five minutes, need your help.'
Sherlock grabbed his coat and made his way over. When he got there, he spotted Gregson along with Mycroft.
'Brother, what are doing here?'
'Same as you.'
'Captain?' Gregson patted his back.
'See you in there.'
'Mycroft, what's going on?' Mycroft handed him a suit. 'What's this for?'
'Well, you're not going to get married like that.'
As Sherlock got ready, Mycroft explained how he and Joan had been planning this for a couple of days.
'I haven't even prepared anything.'
'Just improvise.' Mycroft led him to a tent. He walked down to the front if the aisle and waited, nervously. He looked to his right and saw Joseph all dressed up, he was smiling. The music started, he turned round and saw Joan, she look absolutely beautiful. As she walked down the aisle, he became more nervous. Once she was there, her dad placed her hand in his.
The minister stepped forward.
'Ladys and gentlemen, we're here today to join Joan and Sherlock in bonds of matrimony. I've been told they've been though alot the past few months, which is why Joan and Sherlock's brother Mycroft decided that it was time for them to do something to make him happy, and hopefully this will. Who has the rings?' Mycroft stepped forward, he handed them to the minister who handed one to Joan.
'Sherlock, when we first met i never thought we would end up here. I thought we would never get along, that i would eventually move out and never see you again. But i decided to open up my heart to you and i'm very glad i did. I love you more than anything and want to be with you now and forever.' She placed the ring on his finger. The minister handed Sherlock the other ring.
'Joan, when we first met i knew i felt something. Not a instant spark but something was there between us. It developed into a partnership, and as i watched you grow in your detective skills, i found myself more drawn to you. I'm so glad we decided to take things further, we now have a beautiful baby boy and hopefully, the rest of our lives together. I love you more than my own life, and swear to protect you and our son as long as i life.' He placed the ring on her finger.
'Sherlock, do you take...?
'The by the power infested in me, i pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.'
Sherlock looked at Joan for a moment, taking it all in. He leaned forward and kissed her, his arms went round her waist whilst her's went round his neck. It felt like there was no one there but them, they were alone. After a while, Sherlock pulled back gently. The both smiled at each other as they heard everyone cheer. Sherlock went and picked up Joseph, and they all walked up the aisle together. A family.
After the party, Sherlock and Joan returned to the brownstone. He carried her over the threshold and up the stairs to their room. Once there, Joan went into the bathroom to freshen up. Sherlock looked out the window at the city, he saw it differently now. He heard the bathroom door open, he turned to see Joan, standing in a white lace night gown.
'You look beautiful, not just now but today. You looked amazing.'
Joan went over to him, took his hand and led him onto the bed. He traced her face with his hand before kissing her. She reciprocated and began to undo his shirt. He pushed it off and tossed it to the side. He layed her down on the bed and, gently, layed down on top of her. He kissed her again and put every ounce of love he had into it. He took her hand in his and kept it there, through out their night together.
