I have several reasons for loving Star Trek. Most of them really only apply to The Original Series(TOS) as it is my favorite and the standard by which I measure all of the others.
My first reason is the most "real".
I love Star Trek because it presents a positive outlook for the future. Unlike most fiction about the future this one doesn't show us recovering from a nuclear war or some other disaster which has left the world in ruins. It says this is what we could be. This is our potential. We could be this wise. I think it's really nice to see a vision of the future that's hopeful and gives us something to aim for.
Now my other reasons are far less heavy.
The characters in TOS are great, I mean who can't love the whole Kirk-Spock-MCcoy trio? They are pretty much the greatest trio in television history.
The others series have good characters as well, especially TNG and DS9 in my opinion.
My favorite episodes of TOS are two of the most loved ones, The Trouble with Tribbles and A Piece of the Action.
One of the most memorable ones is And Let That be you Last Battlefield. It had a really poignant point. You have to remember when the show was made. It was highly progressive in many respects.
That's why I love Star Trek.

My reasons are the same, hope for the future. It's nice to think that someday racism is minnum and that we aren't the centers of the univeres. The thought that we could work with the most interesting speices someday gives me hope to be able to work with my co-workers, it makes not working with on another seem primitive.

There are many reasons to love Star trek, especially the Original series. First of all, every episode has a beautiful life lesson to be learned from it. And even the characters themselves teach us alot. For instance, Mr. Spock is completely unemotional, while McCoy is always flying off the handle. Captain Kirk tries to come up somewhere in between them, which is something we all try to do. Find a balance between having a computer brain, and letting our emotions control us. I love seeing each one of them finding a new way out of dangers, and using the same technique in my own life. Besides, Star Trek the Original was so ahead of it's time, that it's still light years ahead of ours.

The reason I like Star Trek is because it has good character interaction in the original series with Kirk, Spock and McCoy and in Next Generation Picard, Riker and Data. Both of these series shows a promising future for humanity and that the characters especially Data, have no problems of what race, species or gender you are. I wish more people in this world looked at life like Data does, we'd be alot better off.

The reason I love Star Trek is nothing to do with any particular character. It is more to do with the concept, the title shots are what really do it for me, especially in TNG and Voyager.
The vast expanse of space yet in fact though so vast there IS life out there. There are so many thousands of lifeforms, from the Q continuum to Vulcans to ourselves having developed as a species beyond what we were. It hints at truths of the past being that we were visited by aliens, that we finally attain a degree of conscience that warranted our stellar capabilities, not just a warlike species invading everywhere but one that could be part of a Universe and find its place in the wider existence. Yet despite mysteries being unveiled, so many more existed. To travel in a ship like the Enterprise and to see those things, to be part of new discoveries and learning about these new things and seeing a galaxy being born or ended but from right beside it almost. THAT is what makes Star Trek great because it so very well manages to capture the very concept it started as and improved on it and made it believable
