The sun illuminated the medi tent just enough for Anakin's tired eye's to see the cost of war. Ruffling winding sheets to numerous to count. Lent one to believe that the dead were merely sleeping and not corpses. Jedi along with trooper had paid a high price for victory. No one would remain unscathed, emotionally or physically. Anakin considered himself lucky as he'd only lost his mech arm and light saber. The prize of a droid tank. Ahsoka hadn't been so lucky. Unwittingly, she had stepped on a landmine. Force pushing had saved her life and her men's, but at a cost. Anakin walked to the front of the tent where she was being worked on. " The turnacit saved her life, but she'll lose her lower left leg. Its amazing she'll live, a mine usually ends up in a death sentence." The head medic spoke into his voice file. " Its not amazing or usual, she's my padawan." Anakin snapped.
The medic's turned in surprise at his tone. Kneeling next to Ahsoka he took her hand, putting aside he anger he smiled. "Hey, Snips. Guess you heard."
Ahsoka smiled with tears in her eyes. "Its a little hard to miss. It was my own fault, I went against Rex's orders. I couldn't let my men stick their necks out without mine, their fight is my fight."
"That's still no exquise. Rex knows how to handle you, and you should have listened. You're still my padawan." Anakin retorted.
Struggling to sit up, she leaned on her arms. Anakin held up his hand to stave off her angery snap. "Don't be mad at Rex, I'm getting far too old for a babysitter. " Anakin got up and walked to find a jedi to do the amputation.
Rex was knelt down next to yet another new brother, another casualty. Fingers, had been the teams scavenger, a man who could always find a way to get what was needed at any time. Rex clutched the fist full of dog tags into his hand, grief crawled up his throat begging for release. A hand gripped his shoulder. "He performed well under the pressure's of this battle. He will have a proper burial."
Shakk-T said. Anger at her words, though made for comfort made him flinch away from her grip. Shakk-T let go.
"I'm sorry for intruding on your moment of grief." Turning she found herself facing Anakin. "Ahsoka needs to have her lower left leg amputated, can you help her." Shakk-T nodded her ascent and started to walk towards the front of the tent. Anakin hung back with Rex. Rex stood up. "Rex what the stang happened out there? She made some exquise about disobeying orders, but you know how to handle her." Still looking down at his dead trooper he said in a whisper. "Maybe you should look after her yourself. Then you won't have to worry about her being in danger." Shocked Anakin started to walk off, then anger flooded his senses. He force dragged Rex to his side. Grabbing Rex in his good arm he continued to Ahsoka's side. Shakk-T looking up in undisguised disgust. " It was unwise to show such agression, Anakin. Let him go he has others to attend to. It was not his fault, but your arrogance that has bleed into your padawan, leading her to rash actions." Anakin let lose Rex's arm, massaging his arm Rex looked down onto Ahsoka's sweaty face. She smiled. Rex felt just as upset as Anakin that he'd been unable to stop her. "I'll stay if you need me." Rex said more to himself . Ahsoka smiled more. " I could use a friend right about now." The head medic nodded, and told Rex to kneel down next to her head and to hold her shoulders down with his hands. "Hey Rex, next time I'll be able to kick those tinnies in the ass and it won't hurt my foot. Now that's an advantage." Ahsoka shook just a little. A sick smile appeared on Rex's face."Next time you even think about disobeying I'll tie you up and leave you on the ship with enough men to keep you there." He pushed harder as Shakk-T's saber glow flowed up towards them and then down. Ahsoka's shocked eye's widened even more and then closed, a gasp shutter shook her body. Rex in fear grabbed her shoulder's harder, thinking the worst. Then her chest rose and descended in an even flow. He sighed.
