"Amazing young Morgan, you are." said the gravily voice from behind her. Turning Morgan held the door for the master."Joy's of a short life, my friend. I hope for once you've come here out of more pleasurable persuits." Master Yoda shook his head sadly."Unfortunate it is that it is not so." He commented as they entered into the Jedi Archieves building. "Will you be attending tommorrow's test?" Morgan asked without a smile."Unwise it is to hazard ones self as you do it is." Many of the passing occupants steered away from the couple. Some pitied the master as he'd been accosted by such a pitiful dirty creature. While others turned up their noses. Morgan had learned to ignore their looks, knowing she'd be forgotten in a matter of minutes. Yet another gift of God. Only those who spent a regular amount of time could even recall her name much less her looks. Yoda had spent quite a large amount of his free time making her feel as welcome as he could possibly make her feel. "Don't fret my friend. God holds all the cards." Yoda nodded in agreement. "Yet test not a God, danger lies in such actions."
Danger there was plenty in her life. As she'd become a reknowned recluse and wealthy arms supplier. Yet the tests were crutial. No clone brother of hers would ever lose his life to a botched weapon from Arcane.
Seeing the librarian Morgan snapped out of her thoughts.
"Thank-you for the reminder, but if you'll excuse me.I have to see the librarian about opening that Sith collection." Yoda's shocked face made her laugh.
" I know, but I got caught up with a design flaw in one of my new projects. Don't worry its not on the menu for tommorrow's test." She bowed deeply.
The newly cut hair made Morgan look even younger then she proffessed herself to be. Yoda bowed his head, cringing as the poor librarian approached them. Even a cleaning droid would find itself a challenge as Morgan presented a disturbing picture.
Yet that was what so amazed him. Her total lack of care in her appearence. For who would ever guess that under the grim of the city laid the one they called Arcane. The most feared whisper amongst the Republic's enemy.
"Madame you are a complete mess." To which Morgan raised her hand. "I know, but I'm here to see about the Sith collection." The elderly woman smiled in acknowledgement. Remembering their struck deal. The woman then motioned her to follow.
Obi-wan and Anakin paused in their conversation. As they noticed the city smudged, wild haired creature bowing deeply to the master. Before striding down the hall after the archive's caretaker.
"That's some new friend the master has. Looks like she's been wallowing in a mud hole."
Anakin said to Obi-wan. The blue-grey eye's of the master narrowed at his former padawan.
"Were you any less dirty when my master found you?" Anakin smirked as his eye's turned to his jedi brother's.
"You got me there, but she's alot older then I was." He whispered as Master Yoda came upon them.
"Judge her not you should. Messenger she is."
"Arcane's?" Master Kenobi ventured. Yoda nodded." Where is this Arcane anyway?" Anakin inquired. He didn't like this relitively new arms supplier. No matter how good he was. Obi-wan agreed with Anakin's feelings, but believed he owed the man a degree of defense.
" Master Yoda is right. Since he's appeared casualties have been at there all time low. His popularity amongst the trooper's is good for moral. Lets not forget that with crediting him as the creator of Ahsoka's gernades. It has placed an even larger bulls eye on his back then he had before."
Anakin folded his arms as he added.
"Don't forget the competition. They've been losing plenty of would be customers since that first trial." All three nodded in agreement. There was no love lost between weapon creators.
" Go we must, others wait." Yoda said, proceeding them. Anakin took one last look in the direction of the girl's path.
"Arcane must have a soft spot for the unfortunate. If that's his idea of a messenger." Kenobi shook his head."Pray he keeps finding us equally unfortunate, to stay saddled with our side."
The dust choked Morgan til she had to pull out the re-breather that the librarian had supplied. She'd never imagined that this much dust could've existed when she'd forced the deal on the poor woman. Morgan shook her head.
You'd think they'd of at least let cleaning droids into a place like this. Oh well, a deal was a deal.
Morgan stopped, wipped out her goggles and looked about at her progress. It was relatively a small collection compared to the rest of the archieves. 19 shelves in all, of course she'd been lucky any of them had been kept. Victor's had a way of rubbing out the histories of their defeated enemies. Or at least they tried to hide them better. Wiggling the googles back into place she continued.
Nearing the end of one shelf she tripped, falling so hard she almost swallowed the damned re-breather in the process.
Blinking away the tears, Morgan kicked out at the object that exploded into cloud's of dust.
A book. Freed from its prision, spun wildly towards its demise.
Morgan desperately slide to save it,nearly going over the edge. As it was, she heard the very real end of her re-breather.
As it shattered three stories below.Coughing til it hurt, Morgan took the book into the dying light of day. "No way am I going to finish without another re-breather. " Thus she began to read.
Anakin sat uncomfortably in the war meeting. No meeting was held in the same place twice, do to the possibility of attack. Thank the force he had Captain Rex to guard Padame's apartments. The Supreme Chancellor's to be opponent and his family had met a grisly end. All except for his eldest daughter. Who was Padme's own cousin, Lady Reaya of Pira. Conspiracies abounded from lone wolves to a possible link to Palpatine. Obi-wan poked at him,as the master caught his wonderings.
" Arcane has asked for an audience for tommorrow's test." Master Windu announced to those present. "Why? His work is above standard, and he has not asked before now. What has changed to bring this about?"
Shaak-T inquired. Others nodded.
"Has more to do with us, it does." Yoda responded."Why does the man not show himself? Surely such a man as him, is no coward." General Kota said leaning away from the wall. "Ask him you should." Yoda wondered at how Morgan was going to pull this off. As few knew that Morgan was Arcane, and even less knew of the unforseen power that had dropped her into their laps. Master Ciones snorted. "Bah! I've got more important things to do with my time." Yoda could not argue, not many could find the time these days to observe such an intreging child at play. Yet Morgan had promised it would give any jedi an added advantage. Should they find themselves facing Count Dooku or General Grievous.
"Late is the hour. Rest we should, while we can." Dead Eye arrived on time, parking his bike on the landing. 5-10 finally 15 minutes ticked on by. The clone shook his head, Morgan had probably fallen asleep. Putting his helmet on the seat he went in to find her.
" May I help you trooper?" The librarian asked politely." Yes mame.Have you seen my dirty little puff ball of a sister lately?" He smiled warmly, as he used his hands to indictate just how small Morgan was. " Trouble trooper?" Obi-wan asked, turning around the trooper immediately saluted. "Just come to escourt my charge back to home base, sir. She's running a little late. Probably fell asleep somewhere with a good book." Dead Eye chuckled. To which the caretaker gasped. "Pray to the force she hasn't, she was cleaning the shelves." Anakin frowned. "Why would she? The padawan's do that." The keeper shook her head. "The usual ones yes, but not the one's in the Sith collection."
"The Sith collection?" Both Jedi inquired shockingly. Dead Eye handed Anakin the letter of permission.Breezing through it, he grimly acknowledged the genius behind it.
"Nice. Arcane's gotten permission to send in his lackies to pick at old enemy secrets. Smart. Very smart." Dead Eye narrowed his eyes and bunched up his fists at his sides. "Pardon me general, but your talking about my sister."
Obi-wan stepped between them. "Forgive my companion's rudeness, he meant no disrespect." Alexanderia looked down at Morgan's zonked out form in disgust. Mo never did take care to look her best. Always more dedicated to the task instead of the presentation.
"Hmph. Her hair's an improvement."
Alex said breezing her hand through the shorn lengths. "Other then that she's pathetic. Don't you think?" She turned to her beloved Sargent Fingers who just shook his head and folded his arms in worry. "Let her sleep. She's earned the rest." Alex took in the dark circles, the well toned muscles along with the many new and old scars that littered her living sister's body. She had more then earned the rest. Unfortunately that wasn't in the game plans.
"Wish I could, but that's not my orders.
Grab that book off her chest, it'll only
get in the way." Finger's did as he was told with some trepidation. Especially when he saw her drag Morgan feet first towards the ledge.
" What are you doing?" Alex growled in response, as she tried not to lose the concentration needed to pull Morgan's weighted body. "My job.Like I said it's all part of a larger picture." Dead Eye's feet ate up the distance towards the collection. His first week out with Morgan and he'd not even made it through the first day without it turning into a disaster. Anakin put a hand on the clone's shoulder. "I'm sure she'll be fine. We'll each take a section to find her faster. " As they stepped into the collection Dead Eye's, eyes looked up. "That's a long ways to fall." Obi-wan saw the deep concern that the clone felt for his charge." Well, we'll make sure that doesn't happen." He said as they spread out amongst the cases. Dead Eye swung himself to the top of his first shelf with his improved grappler. Seeing the jedi give him a thoughtful look in return." Sis. Hey sis!" The shout would have woken up a whole garrison of soldiers, but not Morgan. Alex nodded to Fingers as blondie came closer. The splattering of the book, had Dead Eye drop to his knees. "Just a book." Came the calm response from the master, as Kenobi bent to gather the scattered remains.
"Damn it! He's actually picking them up, this isn't working out as well as I thought. Oh what the Hell." Morgan's blurry eyes tried to focus on the image presented in front of her. Alex smiled. "Give Prince Charming a kiss for me. Will ya." With that Alex kicked her sister over the ledge of the three story bookcase. The movement caught Dead Eye's attention.
"Behind you master!" Morgan's anger roared out in her sister's name. "Alex!" It was short lived, as she saw the heavy book steam right for her head. " Oh my kriffing luck." She said as it connected with its intended target.
Obi-wan groaned as he felt Anakin's healing touch awaken him. As he was propped up against the bookcase, he reached out a hand to Anakin and inquired. "The girl. Is she alright?" His former padawan's pain gripped him. "She can't be dead, I caught her." He said anxiously. Anakin nodded. " You did master, but I've failed to wake her. Something's blocking my abilities." The failure opened up the deep well of hurt that failing to save his mother had. Obi-wan grimly patted his shoulder, in understanding. As he observed the trooper kneeling down next to the girl. The clone was gently wiping away the ingrained dirt from her face. While the keeper gripped his defensive, guilt ridden shoulder.
"Come away young one and breath.
There is nothing more you can do."
To Obi-wan's surprise, the trooper broke down and held the child in a desperate hug.
"She's still alive. There must be something that can be done." The trooper looked up into the librarian's withered face in hope. The elderly woman sighed. " Let us see if perhaps a strong drink can put her to rights." The clone eased his charge back against the bookcase and accompanied the librarian out of the collection.
Obi-wan, stood and walked over to the living corpse. Kneeling down, he tilted the girl's dirt smudged face towards him. The trooper and Anakin were indeed right. She was alive, technicly. Yet the open eye's held no light, no warmth of life. He shook his head. What manner of injury could have brought on such a confusing reaction? Obi-wan closed his eye's and tried to enter the slight creature. He found himself halted before an inscalable wall of defenses. It ringed not only around, but within. As he tried to push against it. It started to drain energy from him. Pulling himself out, he stared in amazement. The power such a defenses would need to completely surround the girl, was beyond his comprehension. It was then that the blood from her open wound touched his finger's. He rubbed the blood between his finger's, it felt just the same as anyone elses.
"Obi-wan are you sure that's wise?" Anakin asked seeing his former master about to taste the blood.Obi-wan ignored his companion's wisedom. As he put the bloodied finger into his mouth. Then trying again,he was rewarded. His head felt as if it had been hit by a hammer,as he and Anakin were suddenly blown back into another bookcase. Wobbling to her pouch, Morgan stuffed the book hastily into it and hauled it over her head. Before she turned on her attackers. Dead Eye dropped the glass,as he felt the vibration of the door's slamb closed behind him. He breathed a sigh of relief, until he saw that Morgan was not just angery. She was down right furious.
Her eye's still unfocused and blurry she spun around. Never had anyone dared such mind tricks on her. Her anger burned like a living torch,as she screamed."Repulse!" Anakin found himself caught up in the magnet's pulse. Pinning him to the bookcase behind him. Her green eye's blazed as she saw Obi-wan draw his saber. "Let him down!" Morgan snarled and shouted,"Gun." Dead Eye's side arm flew from its holster and into her hands. Anakin seeing this reached out for it, only to have his power's absorbed into the not so harmless waif.
He shouted."Watch yourself, Obi-wan!"
The master nodded, as his eyes indeed took in the gathering storm of force flowing into the child. "How dare...how could you? " Morgan teared up and seethed. As the only explaination for such images took the form of two jedi. The pain in her chest doubled but she ignored it, as she leveled the blaster at the circling jedi. Obi-wan narrowed his eyes, at the question. "Dare?" Her answer to his question, was a smoking blaster hole in his over abundant sleeve's material. Morgan coughed, spattering blood and her voice came in painful growls. "Don't act s-o-o innocent. You know damned well what I'm talking about." Morgan grasped her chest with her free hand backing up towards the clone. Obi-wan eye'd her, something was very familiar about the girl.
A clattering behind the stranger caught his eye. The clone behind her was failing, his knee's hitting the marbled floor. "S-s-i-s."
The trooper gasped out,as his eye's rolled back. Morgan turned hearing his plea.
"Oh God.No!" Throwing the blaster away, she caught the clone with open arms as he fell towards his end. A chocking cry of anguish escaped her as she touched her head to his. Where from there a blinding light pulsed out, incompasitating not only the two masters but Morgan and Dead Eye. Dead Eye woke to find himself flattening Morgan to the floor and his armour somewhat loose. Looking around the collection he found that indeed Morgan had over indulged her emotions. Briefly he thought of leaving her to the jedi, but decided against it. Taking the heavy pouch from her, he shook her gently. "Morgan, wake up.Its time to get the hell out of here." Dead Eye scratched at his throat as his voice sounded off to him, but with the day he'd just had it was expected. Morgan blinked up at the trooper confused and then blanched. As what had transpired came back to haunt her. "Ah,Mistress Morgan you're awake. We were so afraid you wouldn't." Said the librarian,as she caught the two of them walking in the hall. She paused, taking in the appearence of the clone. She decided it would make for an interesting read for Master Yoda later. "Have the general's re-couped yet?"
Dead Eye quickly answered."No mame. They wished to be left alone for a moment. Waking sis. took a little too much out of them." At this Morgan paled. "Oh dear. She needs some air." Dead Eye tightened his hold on Morgan as they quickly exited the library.
"What the hell happened?" Anakin asked as he flexed his mech.arm.While he approached Obi-wan's thinking form. The master stood trying to puzzle out all that had happened in the space of time that they'd entered the collection. How had he been able to break through the force field that second time?
Obi-wan turned to his companion.
" Tell me Anakin, what did I do that was different that second time?" Anaikin snorted as he came beside him. "If you can't remember, then you are getting old." Obi-wan frowned at his former padawan's description of him.
Anakin rolled his eyes,before continuing.
"You were ignoring my warning." Kenobi pulled back the three fingers from his beard.
The blood had been the key. The keeper decided at that point to come into the collection."Gentlemen, I must ask you to leave. The archives will be closing."
As they obeyed, Obi-wan turned to the librarian." Who was the trooper who came for that girl?" The elderly woman smiled."I don't rightly know. All those boy's have a tendency to look the same." Anakin then inquired." And the girl?"
"She didn't give a name.Oh I do hope she's alright. The poor dear looked quite ill when she left." Obi-wan nodded. "Rightly so. Is there any way you could help us find her? So we can make sure she is alright." The keeper shook her head. " Only Master Yoda would know that, I'm afraid." Dead Eye opted to land in the arena. As the catatonic Morgan would have brought on a flurry of questions and reprimands. Not to mention that at any moment they may be over taken due to Morgan attacking two jedi. Landing softly down on the sand, he turned to her." Morgan come on.You didn't do that much damage. Maybe hurt a little of their pride, but in my opinion they could do with a dent or two. Next time I'll pick up a mop myself." He smiled, only to have Morgan throw her arms around his neck and cry. Hugging her back, he whispered. "I'm alright. Nothings wrong with me. In fact I feel better then I have in years." Which only made her cry harder. By this time three padawan's had come out onto the arena sands."Who are you?" Moren inquired pulling his saber. As Ora and Dandy did the same closing in on the stranger who held Morgan. "Moren, its me Dead Eye.What the stangs wrong with you?" To which Ora shouted in return."No your not! Dead Eye's a clone, your no clone." Dandy shook his head as he lowered his saber."He has to be. How else would he have Mo." During the exchange, Morgan had taken the time to let go of her brother and shine up the visior on his helmet. Sniffling Morgan turned the visor to the clone trooper's face. Dead Eye for a moment didn't comprehend what he was seeing. Then he fell off the back of his bike and scooted away from the image that mimicked his every move. Morgan bent her head down and cried, nothing would ever be the same.Dandy watched and waited, Morgan had done it again. He smiled, since knowing her he hadn't been bored at all.
Dandy shook his head as Moren gave up.Ora had been more successful in calming the now 15 year old boy named Dead Eye. So much so that he was now coming over to Morgan.
"Hey,sis. Get off the bike your ass will have welts from sitting so long. Come on,don't we have that big presentation tommorrow night. You wouldn't want to disappoint Master Yoda."
When that didn't get her up he hugged her.
"Its not like we haven't seen the vid.
We accepted the assignment knowing
full well what we were getting into. Hey look at me. I'm fine, you saved me." Her tears still streamed down her face, but she looked. "You know who you should feel bad about. Those two jedi. When you didn't come around General Skywalker tried, over and over. You didn't respond. I never seen such a devestated look on a jedi, it was like he was physically hurting. How did you wake up?" Morgan changed the subject."You're squeezing too tight." Dead Eye losened his hold.
"Oh,Mo.Come on. Lets get off and get cleaned up. If I look 1/2 as bad as you, I'm definitely in need of a wash." He placed a kiss on her bug smacked forehead. As he helped Morgan off the bike,he tossed Dandy the keys."Don't get into trouble." Dandy laught."Think you've had enough for one day." He said pushing the goggles onto his eyes as he took off.
