SPOILERS for the Extended Cut Special Edition! So DO NOT read on if you don't want to be spoiled for the extended cut or the special edition special features!

SO, it's here. 'Suicide Squad' is now available for us nerds to hold in our sweaty, grubby hands. This nerd *points to self* is here to review the crap out of the Extended Cut Special Edition blu-ray release.

First things first, the...

Extended Cut

Initially, when the extended/deleted scenes featured in the extended cut hit the internet, I tried really, really hard not to watch them, as I wanted to see them in full blu-ray glory in the privacy of my own home where I could openly weep at their spectacularness. Alas, I am weak, and I watched them on YouTube anyway. I liked the new footage, while also being disappointed that a) there wasn't much of it, and b) none of the scenes seemed to add much to the movie. Having now watched the full extended cut, I think it is pretty much confirmed that the extended scenes didn't make the movie any better than the theatrical cut. They certainly didn't make the movie any worse either, as these...

SPOILERS!!! This is NOT a spoiler-free review! Turn back now if you haven't seen the movie!!!

The wait is over! The Skwad is here! So of course that means it is time for me yell my opinions into the internet. I have great many thoughts about 'Suicide Squad' so in order to organise them so others may understand them, I've chopped this review up into a few different sections. Read on, Puddins'!

Loves

Harley Quinn
I have been waiting a long time for 'Suicide Squad', mainly because of its production of the first live-action Harley Quinn.

I've loved Harley for a long time. I remember watching her debut in the animated series and instantly falling in love with her. So this live-action adaptation was a big deal for me.

For the most part, the movie delivers some glorious, badass Harley Quinn. Margot Robbie is perfect. A wonderful mix of insane, sinister, sweet, innocent, brutal and funny. There was definitely success here in presenting a complex Harley Quinn.

Soooo the link has been released, so I thought I'd do a pre-release guide to the soundtrack, and link you to some of these musical delights. If the song hasn't been released yet, I'll be linking you to another song from the artist as an example of their particular sound. Hopefully I'll be able to update these as all the songs are released!

'Purple Lamborghini' by Skrillex & Rick Ross

I don't know who either of these people are coz I'm so old, so I YouTube'd them. Seems this track will be a dancey (link)-rappy (link) kinda thing, which is not typically my idea of good tunes, but we'll see. Jared Leto has reportedly Joker'd up for the music video for this song, which was specifically written for the movie, so this is likely to be a prominent piece of music!

When it was announced that 'Suicide Squad' would have PG-13 rating, some peeps lost their cool, lamenting the opportunity to have an R rated super-villain movie. This was seemingly compounded by 'Deadpool', an R rated comic book movie that promised sex and violence. 'Deadpool' delivers on both, but not to an extreme extent. In fact, I personally think it was a pretty tame R, closer in adult content to 'Family Guy' than porn or gore. And apparently, 'Family Guy' is rated TV-14, which means it is aimed at viewers 14 years and older, so...

In terms of 'Suicide Squad', I guess people wanted uncensored super-villain violence, mainly. Rather than implied deaths, people wanted splattered brains and disembowelings. I also suspect people wanted some sex too, perhaps featuring Harley Quinn, the subject of many a fanboy/girl's wet dream, as problematic as that may be. But given the source material, I don't know why people expected an R movie, and felt ripped off when they learned they would not be getting one.
