Forever and For Always
I grinned as Alice plumped my hair again. She just wouldn’t give up until I looked perfect.
“ Alice, its not going to look perfect! I’m not a vampire like you.” I laughed at her stubborn expression.
“ You’re going to look perfect if it’s the last thing I do!” Her own appearance looked wonderful, putting me completely to shame.
“ She looks gorgeous all ready.” Renesmee came into the room, grinning.
“ Thanks, Ness.” I blushed, charmed by her compliment.
“ But Aunt Alice, you better hurry. I know one wolf who’s about ready to knock down the doors to see her.”
My heart kicked up a notch at the thought of seeing Jake’s gorgeous face.
“ And….we’re done!” Alice chirped, happiness radiating off of every inch of her. She steered me toward a full length mirror and finally let me see myself.
“ Oh…” I wasn’t capable of making any sound. My lips just formed a silent “O”.
My blonde hair hung in ringlets similar to Renesmee’s and my eyes were brilliant, framed by an elaborate design of eyeliner and shadow. A little white dress hugged my every curve.
“ Is that actually me?” I asked, shocked to see that the beautiful girl in the mirror moved when I did.
Alice and Nessie exchanged smiles.
“Alice! You are amazing!” I squealed and twirled. My white dress flared around me, giving a Marilyn Monroe effect. I never had been much of a girly girl, but I could get used to it if Alice and Nessie were my personal stylists.
“ Come on, Mika. Someone is waiting for you.” Nessie grinned at me secretively and gave me a gentle push toward the door. At first I wasn’t sure why I needed to be dressed up for going home, but I guess after you almost been killed it gives you an excuse to look good. I giggled like a little girl and followed Nessie out of the room. My high heel caught on the carpet by the grand stair case and my heart starting pounding. This was great, just great. I was going to fall down the stairs. Large, warm hands surrounded my waist and hoisted me to my feet, pulling me close to a hard chest in the process. I saw Nessie sneak down the stairs, giving us privacy.
“ Jake.” My voice came out breathless. It was amazing what just the sight of him could do to me. I took in his slightly shaggy black hair and smoldering brown eyes. He was enough to make me feel like I was melting.
“ Mika, wow. I don’t even know what to say.” His deep voice coursed through me and did funny things to my insides.
“ I was hoping you would say you liked it.” I murmured, and looked up at him through my eyelashes. His brown eyes widened, and then a lazy grin lifted his full lips in a smile.
“ I don’t only like it, I love it.” Jacob’s eyes sparkled and snapped.
“ Thank you.” I smiled up at him, still in awe that this guy had imprinted on little old me. He deserved some knock out movie star. Not some tom girl type like me.
“ Come on, I wouldn’t want to keep you all to myself.” Jake grinned at me, and guided me down the grand stair case.
“ Wouldn’t you?” I teased and almost gasped as his large hand drifted down my back. His touch sent my heart on overdrive.
“ You know I would. I was just being polite.” He answered, his voice low and husky.
My heart stuttered a broken pace and I couldn’t look away from him.
“Mika, darling! You look amazing!” Esme came forward and kissed my cheek, not so subtly breaking Jacob’s claim on me.
“ Yeah, you look fabulous.” Emmett grinned, obviously trying to sound “fashionable” to get a laugh out of me. I had stayed with the Cullen’s for two weeks to make sure non of Jameka’s friends stopped by town. During that time, Emmett had been like a big brother, constantly teasing me and trying to get me to laugh. But since none of Jameka’s “friends” had shown up, I was safe to go home and Alice and Nessie jumped at the chance to throw a party.
“ Thanks everyone.” I could tell I was blushing. “ I mean, thanks for everything. Your protection, your hospitality. Everything. I don’t know how to ever repay you for your kindness.” I tried to get all my feelings out.
“ Oh Mika, you don’t need to repay us! Knowing that you are safe, and Jacob is happy, is enough payment for us.” Esme smiled softly, The sun peeked out of the hovering clouds and instantly, the Cullen’s were illuminating the meadow surrounding their mansion.
I smiled softly in awe. I had heard about this, but I had never actually seen it. It looked like they were all sparkling. I glanced over at Nessie, who was snuggled against Evan’s chest. They didn’t actually sparkle, they had more of a iridescent glow.
Long arms wrapped around my waist and a second later, I leaned back against a hott chest.
“ Even the Sun wanted to make this day special for you.” Jake’s husky voice sent a fresh wave of shivers through me. I turned slightly in his arms, smiling up at his caring face.
“ I cant believe how nice the Cullen’s are. Even though I haven’t known them that long, I’m going to miss staying with them.” I admitted as I watched Rosalie and Emmett look at each other lovingly, before Emmett leaned down to give her a soft kiss on the lips.
“ It’s not like you’re leaving, Mika. We can come back and visit.” His voice held a hint of question. My heart picked up pace slightly and I looked away from his probing chocolate eyes. How had he found out? I forced myself to smile brightly and look up at him.
“ Right. We don’t live that far away.”
Jacob didn’t look convinced and he frowned, his top teeth coming to pull on his bottom lip. I felt my face flush. I was a goner when he bit his lip like that.
“ Well, we better get going. I think my dad is ready to see me.” I faked brightly.
“ Of course!” Alice called. She had looked a lot happier lately, and I wondered if Jacob blocking her seeing-into-the-future abilities was a bit of relief.
I said another round of good byes, hugging everyone and then followed Jake to the car.
“ Mike, you ok?” His voice whooshed the breath right out of me. And him using my nickname didn’t help matters.
“ I’m fine, Jake. Just a little sad at leaving them. They’re like my dream family I never had.” I replied honestly. It was no secret that me and my dad didn’t have that great of a relationship.
“ We’ll visit them as often as we can, ok? They aren’t just going to forget about you.” His reassuring voice made me warm all over. He pulled the car into our driveway a few minutes later. After he saw the moving truck.
“ What’s this?” His voice shook with anger, and the Rabbit’s steering wheel creaked in protest at the way he was gripping it.
I opened the door and stepped out. I knew the longer I put it off the harder it would be, but I just wasn’t ready.
“ Mika.” His hot hand grabbing my elbow was enough to melt me on the spot.
“ Jake…” I trailed off. I just couldn’t do this. The front door opened and my dad came out, carrying a box of books.
“Good, you’re here! I need help packing up the office.”
I shot Jacob a guilty look. He wasn’t going to take this very well.
“ Mr. Malone, what’s going on?” Jacob’s voice cracked as he fought to control his raging emotions.
“ Oh Jacob, my dear boy, this is the discovery of a lifetime! I’ve made contact with a man who claims he’s a direct descendant of the original shape shifting Quileutes! This could mean getting to the bottom of the shape shifting descendents and so much more. Mika and I must pursue this lead immediately.”
I glared at my Dad. This hunt for knowledge was going to kill him one day. And little did he know that an actual descendent was standing less than five feet in front of him.
“What?” Jacob’s voice was incredulous.
“ I would be very grateful if you would help Mika pack her things. We must leave as soon as possible!” Dad ran a hand through his crazy hair and then hustled to the moving van. Angry tears welled behind my eyes. He had told me we still had a few more days!
Jacob’s iron hands settled on my upper arms from behind and shoved me toward the door. I tripped going up the stairs and his hands tightened. I winced as my feet left the ground. He carried me inside my room and slammed the door.
“ Don’t break my door.” I cautioned as it rattled.
“ You weren’t going to tell me.” His obsidian eyes drilled into mine.
“ I was going to tell you when we were leaving. He told me I still had a few days.” I stood and walked over to my dresser, pulling out jeans and a long sleeve shirt. Little good this white dress did for me. Dad hadn’t even noticed. I walked into the bathroom and changed clothes. I gritted my teeth when I noticed the bruises on my arms. Jake needed to remember how strong he was.
“ That’s not the point. You didn’t tell me you were going to leave. Were you just going to up and leave?” His voice thundered right outside the door. I finished changing and threw open the door. I raised my self to my full height and jabbed a finger into his chest. He blinked in surprise.
“ No I wasn’t just going to up and leave. But I didn’t know why we had to go through this before the time came!” I hissed softly. I never had been one of the screamers when fighting. With me, the quieter I was, the madder I was becoming.
“ Because we could have figured something out! How you could stay.” Jake called at me exasperated as I stormed around him and stomped back to my room.
I yanked a suitcase out of the closet and stalked to my dresser, opening the top drawer. Underwear. How lovely.
I grabbed a handful and threw them over my shoulder, aiming for my suitcase on my bed.
“ My dad’s not going to let me stay. I’ve tried this before and the answer is always the same. ‘Mika, you’re the only thing I have. You’re the inspiration to my work! We’ll settle down one day. After I figure this out.’” I mocked my dad as I chucked more things over my shoulder.
Jake had become eerily quiet. I risked a glance over at him. His dark cheeks were stained with color and I felt my own embarrassment rising. He had become a underwear rack. All my cute little panties littered the ground around him, and oh my gosh, on him.
“ Oh. Sorry.” I walked over quickly, grabbing the different underwear off his shoulders and arms. He raised on hand, a more provocative piece of feminine underwear hanging off one of his tanned fingers. I felt my mortification rising. My favorite thong. How embarrassing. I snatched it off his fingers, and turned away, putting my clothes were the belonged. In my suitcase.
His warm breath on my neck froze me on the spot.
“ I just know that I love you.” His hands traced up and down my arms. I winced as he hit the bruises and turned to face him.
“ I love you too.” I murmured, glancing away from his melting eyes. He tipped my chin up gently, and I forced myself to look him in the eyes.
“ Then we’ll find a way you can stay here. With me.”
I offered him a feeble smile. Everything would turn out ok. Hopefully.
