Trent's pov!
Just another normal day in the life in the city. I was the guy who had the good grades in school and the scholarships from many colleges. I also had a supporting family that wanted me to go to school to get a good, 'normal' paying job. I turned all of that down to become a musician. You all are probably thinking, "Musicians get tons of money selling their records and such!" Well, you're right, but it takes a while to get to the top. Since the pop music industry is so high these days, it is hard to get far in the wanting to rock out on the guitar. I work at a small coffee shop in Toronto, Ontario, Canada as a full time job. Because I work there, I didn't have to pay to play small gigs there. I love working there and my parents just didn't see it as a very fulfilling job. I would take a break in between songs to go take orders at the counter before going back to play my guitar and sing songs into the microphone. Since it was raining outside I thought that my acoustic guitar would set the scene. It's gentle melody filling the ears of the soaked and tired people walking into the shop; their cloudy faces become warm again like the bright sun hiding behind the clouds. I thought my sun would be shining as soon as I got back home to my loving girlfriend, but things haven't been working out so well between us lately. "Why don't you get a real job?" She screamed, throwing a pile of bills into my face. Her face just read fed up and exhaustion. Her clothes were dirty since we couldn't wash clothes everyday like normal people do. We would have to wait until I got enough money to take clothes down to the laundry mat to get them cleaned. "I do have a real job." I said gently, trying to calm her down. "You've had that 'real job' for two and a half years! Why didn't you just listen to your father and got a job as a computer expert?" She pushed me into the wall. "If you don't like the way that I bring home money and put food on the table then just leave." I opened up the creaky closet door and threw a beaten up suitcase out onto the floor. "Fine then! You can stay here in this crap of an apartment alone! I'm going to go live with my mother!" She packed up her things and left behind a slammed door. The power of the harshly slammed door caused a picture frame of me and her to shatter to pieces on the wooden floor. I don't think this apartment isn't that bad nor do I think this lifestyle is bad either. I opened up the fridge and pulled out a small box full of noodles and sat down on the floor. I couldn't afford any furniture so I was forced to sit on the floor and eat my lunch/dinner. I ate the noodles slowly with my bare hands, feeling sort of bad for myself. I couldn't afford eating utensils either, so that explains why I am eating with my hands. I sighed and went to my empty room and lied down on the torn and worn sheets on the stained carpet floor. I stared out the window at the rain with my arms behind my head. Should I have listened to my dad? Maybe if I did Marianne would still be here and I wouldn't be sleeping on the floor.. or eating with my hands. I looked over at my acoustic and electric guitar in the corner of my room, their broken strings waving slowly in circles like strands of hair. Maybe its time to give up the dream of becoming a rockstar and throw my guitars away and get back with Marianne. I walked out of my apartment and stood in front of the garbage can, holding the guitars in my arms. I just stood there silent and cold in the harsh storm. "What on earth are you doing outside in this weather?" My next-door neighbor, Geoff, called from his window. "I was just throwing something away.." I mumbled. He squinted his eyes to see through the rain and his eyes widened. He ran outside and took the guitars from my arms. "Why are you throwing these beauties away? I thought you wanted to-." He cut himself off. I lowered my head and held back my tears. "Bro, no. Forget her. You've wanted to become a rockstar since you were a little boy." He set the guitars aside and hugged me. "I know, but-." He cut me off. "Continue to live the dream. You'll get up there someday and she'll be crawling back to you in no time." He gave me a pat on the shoulder before handing me the guitars. "Thanks man." I smiled. "No problem. See you at work tomorrow." He went back into his apartment. I crawled onto my sheet bed and slept with my guitars as if they were stuffed animals from my childhood.
...
I woke up the next day and headed for the coffee shop with my guitars. "Morning, Trent." Geoff tipped his hat to me. "Morning." I set up my guitars on the small stage. "What songs are you going to play today?" He asked. "Eh, the usual." I shrugged. "I hope it won't be one of those cheesy breakup songs." He sarcastically nudged me. "No way, man." I chuckled, plugging my guitars up to amps. "Sounds cool, bro. I'm gonna go turn on the coffee machines and clean up my station from last night. Had to rush home and watch the kids while Bridgette was at work." He gushed about his blonde lover. "Hey, Trent." One of my loyal fans walked up to me as I was setting up my mic. "Hey there, little guy." I bent over a little so I was at his height. "What are you going to play today?" He sat at a booth while his mother ordered herself a coffee and him a juice at the counter. "I was thinking of playing a little bit of my original stuff and maybe take a song request from my favorite little fan." I smiled and handed him a guitar pick. "Wow, this is so cool!" The little six year old grinned from ear to ear as he stared at the beautiful scarlet guitar pick in his hands. "Good morning, Trent." The little boy's mother sat down the coffee and juice down on the table before shaking my hand. "And to you, Miss Rose." I shook her hand politely. "I heard from Matthew here that you're taking song requests today." She patted her son's head. "Just from this little guy here." I smiled. "How sweet." She cooed. "Can you play Creep by Radiohead?" He drank his apple juice as he kicked his feet back and forth while sitting in one of the booths. "Of course." I smiled before heading towards my wooden stool. I looked up from my acoustic guitar gleaming in the bright spotlight and saw that I had a larger crowd that usual. 'That's weird.' I thought. There was a somewhat small group that was dressed in all black and were wearing sunglasses in a somewhat dark coffee shop. 'I guess they just have a thing for black clothing and shades.' I strummed my guitar. "Alright, this song is a request from my favorite little fan, Matthew." The crowd, except the suspicious shades group, awed. ".. But I'm a creep. I'm a weirdo. What the hell am I doing here? I don't belong here." I sang into the microphone as I played my guitar. As the song came to an end I saw a few other figures in suspicious clothing slowly walk into the shop and head over towards the seats at the counter. I watched them whisper to each other and turn their heads to the guys who thought it was cool to wear their shades inside. "Thank you." I said to the cheering crowd before heading off stage to take orders at the counter. "What can I get you?" I asked one of the dark navy blue dressed men in front of me texting on his cellphone. "Beat it, kid." He snarled. "To sit here you must order something off of the menu. Other people would like to sit here too you know." I was literally thinking of face palming myself when I ended my statement. Who am I, a somewhat muscular guy, to try to act all tough to these insanely buff guys who could rip off my head in an instant? "Okay, I'll order something.." He hissed. "What can I get you?" I swallowed my fear and took out my notepad. "Know what? I'm not gonna make you eat your own insides. I'll have a coffee, thank you." He chuckled devilishly. "Alright." I zoomed off with the order and handed it to Geoff. "What's your problem, man?" He scratched the back of his head. "Just get the order done, okay?" I ran off to the stage. I didn't realize I was breathing heavily into the microphone when I sat down on the wooden stool and rubbed my eyes in relief. I looked up at the silent crowd staring at me. I laughed nervously and quickly thought of a song to play. "Sweet Emotion.Talk about things that nobody cares. Wearing other things that nobody wears. Callin' my name but I gotta make it clear. I can't say baby where I'll be in a year." I rocked out on my electric guitar and tapped my foot on the wooden stool in rhythm. The guys at the counter called Geoff over to get them what they wanted so I can finish this song. Geoff looked confused but he went and got their order anyways. He handed about fifteen cups of coffee out to the men at the counter. I shook off the suspicion pounding in my stubborn head and continued to perform. One of the suspicious guys whispered something to Geoff in his ear. Geoff nodded and took the many coffees ordered from them and handed them out to the shade wearing group on the other side of the shop. "On the house." I saw Geoff mouth to them. One of them took a sip of their coffee and fell to the floor. The song had ended and I just stared at the group looking down at their passed out friend. They looked up at the guys at the counter. "Get them!" One of them stood up and they took off running towards them. Some of the ceiling caved in and in came ninja like dressed people who somehow landed safely on the floor. The rest of the crowd hid behind the counter with the other employees while I just sat there on my wooden stool looking like a total idiot. Both sides pulled out guns and started shooting. "Trent! Get over here!" Geoff yelled. One of the ninja dressed people took a knife and slit the throat of what seemed like the leader of the suspicious shades group. The man's blood squirted onto my shirt and I watched as the man collapsed onto the wooden floor, a puddle of blood forming around him. The unknown person took off their mask and looked at me with her dark eyes. I took a step backwards from her and a smirk appeared on her face. "Get them." She spoke in a somewhat strong Russian accent to her blood spilling assistants and pointed to the people over behind the counter. "No! Don't hurt them!" I started to run towards the counter, but a knife pressed against my neck stopped me. "Or you can stand there and watch the show." She whispered into my ear. One of the men picked up a terrified Matthew and another held back his screaming mother. "Hush now.." The man put a cloth over her mouth and she passed out. "Mommy! No! Trent, help!" Matthew screamed as the man dragged him out of the shop and stuffed him into a van with a few other victims. "Make special sure that those two are in two separate vans." The woman leader laughed slightly. "Yes mam." They nodded and stuffed every one of them into vans. "Trent, save us, man!" Geoff shouted over the buff guy's shoulder. "What are you going to do with them?" I shouted at her. She turned around and looked at me, her smirk reappearing. "They'll be fine. I won't kill them. Yet." She laughed. "I'll kill you!" I screamed and ran towards her. I suddenly stopped right before I tackled her. I felt a slight stinging pain in my neck. I reached over and pulled a tranquilizer dart out of my neck and fell to the floor. "We're going to go for a little ride, okay?" She giggled into my ear. "I'll.. kill you." The last thing I saw before I passed out was her dragging me across the gravel past a couple of rusty black vans that were thrashing and full of screaming.
I've practiced this for hours, gone round and round
And now I think that I've got it all down
And as I say it louder I love how it sounds
'Cause I'm not taking the easy way out
Not wrapping this in ribbons
Shouldn't have to give a reason why
It's no surprise I won't be here tomorrow
I can't believe that I stayed till today
Yeah you and I will be a tough act to follow
But I know in time we'll find this was no surprise
My eyes slowly started to flicker open. My vision soon became clear and I saw that I was in a poorly lit room. I slowly sat up and held my aching head with my hand and looked around the room. It looked like I was on the set of one of those really cool spy movies where there are gadgets of all kinds and weapons everywhere.. except this is real life and I might actually die. I tried getting up to walk around, but I hit my head on something and I fell back down. I reached up and touched something but it looked as if it weren't even there. I began to move my hands around a little bit more and realized I was in a small transparent prison. "I hope you slept well." A voice came from behind me in the shadows. I turned around and watched the female leader slowly walk up to me in a somewhat revealing leather black dress. "What do you want from me? What did I do?" I slapped my hands against the transparent cage. "It isn't what you did, it is what you have seen. You know about my secret organization and I don't want you going around town telling about it to everyone." She sat down in a chair and filed her nails. "I won't tell anyone, I promise." I pleaded to be set free. "That's what the last guy said to me before he went and told an entire city about my little secret. I had no choice but to kill him and the other people who were told about the organization." She began typing up something on a large computer, almost the size of this entire room. She pulled up a newspaper article of a town that was burnt down a couple of years ago. I looked at the horror on the people's faces and held my head down to stop myself from looking at these tragic pictures. "What is so fucking special about your secret organization that people can't know about?" I screamed, my voice booming off of the walls. She spun her chair around so that she was facing me. "Alright, I'll tell you." She stood from her chair and walked over to unlock my cage. As soon as I was let out, I lunged at her and sent her falling backwards onto the marble floor. "Wrong decision." She chuckled before tazing me in the stomach. I rolled off of her and onto the floor and held my stomach in pain. "Good. Now where was I.." She trailed off, stirring her cup of tea with a spoon that she took off of her desk. "Our secret organization is an agency that was created by the president of the United States of America. He wanted us to make sure that we kept spies out of the U.S. and Canada. Wait, I just told you that it was created by the U.S. president, didn't I? Well, both the prime minister of Canada and the U.S. president both agreed to aid each other's countries and keep spies out of both countries." She explained. "What do you mean by 'spies'?" I looked up at her from the floor. "Spies that are trying to find ways to sneak into our countries and steal what is most precious to us, like our paintings and even statues. A spy stole the Statue of Liberty right from under our noses a month ago." She clenched her fist. "I read about that in a newspaper.." I mumbled. "It also might be weird that I have a Russian accent and I am helping Canada and the U.S. Well, I decided to bring myself and a couple of well trained Russian spies here with me to help stop all of this crime. Don't think other countries outside of the U.S. and Canada are stealing our precious possessions. Spies inside of the U.S and Canada are taking a part of their own country and taking it to another country to hide it and come back and live in their country like they didn't even commit a crime." She slammed her fist onto her desk, cracking it slightly. "Your organization isn't anything bad. Why can't you just let me and my friends free then?" I questioned. "Because the spies will here the word on the street and become even more sneakier and steal things from us from places we wouldn't even suspect." She growled. "Well then.." I mumbled. Don't get me wrong, I still don't think that killing people from finding out about their organization is right. "It isn't just Canada and the U.S that are having spies steal national treasure from them. Countries around the world are facing the same problem as us and are trying to find ways to stop those asshole spies from stealing from us." She growled. "What's up, Gwen?" A guy with piercings all over his face walked in with a soda in his hand. "Not much." She coughed as she was writing something down on paper. "So who do we have to kill today?" He asked. "Not now, Duncan. I'm trying to think." She hissed. "Whatever. Hey there. You must be the guy I have to kill." Duncan talked to me as if I were a little kid. "Leave him alone." Gwen threw a pencil at him. "Why? He looks like an easy kill. I can break his neck-." She cut him off. "For fuck's sake man, go take a hike or something! I just told you I'm trying to think!" She shouted. "Go suck a dick." He mumbled under his breath before walking outside. "God." She mumbled, rubbing her forehead with her hand. "Something wrong?" I asked. "No.. I'm just trying to figure out where this next group will strike and as you can see, Duncan wasn't much of help." She sighed. "Nope." I chuckled. "Come with me." She held out her hand and helped me up. We walked through this hallway of more marble flooring. It was like the scenery of a haunted house. Except there isn't any vampires or werewolves. For a long time the only thing I heard was her black heels clacking against the floor and the sound of opening and closing doors. She opened the door and in the room was full of the people I thought I would never see again. Matthew escaped the clutches of a spy and ran into my arms. "Matthew, where is your mom?" I put my hands on his shoulders and looked him in the eyes with a serious tone. He began to bawl and he hugged me again. I looked up at the rest of the people that were at the coffee shop and they all had there heads down. "She wouldn't keep quiet." One of the spies spoke. "I want to leave this place. Everyone is mean and it is dark and scary. I don't like it here." Matthew cried. A spy with red hair and a white shirt grabbed one of the people in the crowd from the shop and pushed her onto the floor so that she was on her knees. He held a gun to her head and before he pulled the trigger, I slapped it out of his hand. "You think you're tough?" The spy slammed me into the wall. "No. How about we make a deal?" I tried breathing through his hands that were around my neck. He let go of my neck and I slid down onto the floor. "What did you have in mind?" He snarled. "How about we work as your slaves in trade from killing us." I suggested. "No, I'm not doing this! I want to live a free life-!" A man ran for a door but he stopped halfway there when a bullet went slicing through his head. "I like this trade." Another spy that had long brown hair and cowboy boots walked into the room. "Thanks for your input, Alejandro, but you aren't the leader of this organization. Gwen is." The guy who almost choked me to death, glared at him. "Shut it, Scott." Alejandro shoved him. Everyone in the room was now looking at Gwen for an answer. "Sounds good." She mumbled and looked down at the floor. The people of the coffee shop sighed of relief. "If any of you don't do your job correctly or you try to escape, you will be killed instantly." A female with dark gray hair and short shorts and shirt glared at all of us. "Yeah.." It sounded like Gwen was upset at something. Wait, why do I care? I mean she is a part of an organization that will help stop people from stealing national treasures, but she kills people. That's extremely inhumane. "Assign them rooms." Alejandro asked the buff spies. "For the last time, you don't tell me what to do-." Gwen cut the guy off. "Just do what he says. I'm gonna go work on the computer.." She looked at me before walking out of the room. We were all assigned to share rooms. Three people could go into one room, so of course I chose my two room partners to be Matthew and Geoff. The rooms were dark and full of cobwebs. At least there were mattresses that wasn't lying on the floor. I pulled back the covers and out jumps a huge rat. It jumped off of my bed and scurried into a huge hole in the wall. "I don't like it here." Matthew sat on his dusty old bed and started to cry. "It will get better, I promise." I hugged him. "Better? We're fucking slaves now, dude. How is it going to get better?" Geoff cursed at me. "Language, man." I reminded him that we have a six year old present in the room. "I just want to go home. I miss my wife and kids." Geoff buried his face into the palms of his hands. "I miss my mommy." Matthew sobbed into my shoulder. "I'll never get to watch my little girl before she goes on a date with her first boyfriend. I'll never get to watch my son play on the football team." Geoff sniffed. "Lets just try to get some sleep, okay?" I tried to look to the brighter side of this situation. "Alright. Goodnight, brother." Geoff gave me a tight bear hug. "Night." I hugged him back. "Goodnight Trent." Matthew rubbed his eyes as he lied there in bed. I just realized if we do get out of this, Matthew won't have anywhere to go. His mom was the last person to pass away in his family. I'm old enough to adopt him, so I guess that makes me his new dad. "Goodnight, Matthew." I tucked him in and kissed his forehead. I crawled into my somewhat comfortable bed and looked up at the cob web filled ceiling. 'I wonder if Marianne would send a search party to look for me..' I thought. 'Probably not.' I glared at the thought of her before turning over onto my side and going to sleep.
It came out like a river once I let it out
When I thought that I wouldn't know how
Held onto it forever just pushing it down
Felt so good to let go of it now
Not wrapping this in ribbons
Shouldn't have to give a reason why
It's no surprise I won't be here tomorrow
I can't believe that I stayed till today
There's nothing here in this heart left to borrow
There's nothing here in this soul left to say
Don't be surprised when we hate this tomorrow
God know we tried to find an easier way
Yeah you and I will be a tough act to follow
But I know in time we'll find this was no surprise
What felt like years have gone by now. I was starting to become really tired of having to work all day long and only get 3 or 4 hours of sleep. I am barely given, well, all of us are barely given any food, so our rib cages were clearly visible. My muscles ached, and my heart continued to ache. I was missing home like crazy and I just couldn't stop thinking of my beloved Marianne. The spy lab was like a prison and my rat infested and cobweb filled room was my jail cell. "Rise and shine!" Duncan came into the room and a bullhorn rang in my ears. "Ow, you asshole!" I took the bullhorn from his grasp and threw it at his head. "Hey, don't you fuck with me!" He pulled a knife out of his pocket and held it to my neck. "We gonna have a problem, pretty boy?" One of the buff spies came in and stood before me, cracking his knuckles. "No sir." I mumbled. "Good boy. Now get up." He grabbed me by the torn and worn shirt I was given from them and threw me at the wall. I groaned in pain and coughed up a little bit of blood. "You okay?" Geoff sat up from his bed. "I'm fine." I sat up and looked at a terrified little boy hiding under his covers. His eyes began to whelm up with tears. "It is okay, Matthew. Don't cry." I held him in my arms. "You're like a father to him." Geoff pointed out. "Well, yeah.. I guess." I felt Matthew hug me tighter. "If you're my daddy, who's my new mommy?" Matthew looked up at me with his big, round green eyes. "I don't know, son.." I stroked his jet black hair. He actually kind of looks like me. Green eyes, black hair. "I need Trent for a moment." Alejandro gestured his hand for me to follow him. I entered a huge room that looked like an actual library. It had a chilling atmosphere and the room had slightly flickering lights. I then noticed Gwen was sitting across the room at a desk staring out the window with her cheek rested in the palm of her hand. "She won't talk or anything." Alejandro looked shocked. "What do you want me to do about it?" I hissed at him. "Since we have every other person slave working on other things, I want you to cheer her up." He demanded. "By doing what-?" He shoved me into the room and locked the door. "Hey, Gwen." I walked over and placed my hand upon her shoulder. "Hi.." She mumbled, not even blinking as she continued to stare out the window. "So, what's up?" I sat down beside her in a chair. "Nothing. I'm okay." She silently sighed. "You look a little upset." I wrapped my arm around her. "Don't touch me, please." She shook away from my embrace. "Come on, just please tell me what's wrong-." She cut me off. "I know you're only being nice to me because Alejandro threatened to kill you if you didn't, so just leave me alone!" She burst into tears. I watched her tremble and just completely break down with her arms folded on her desk, her face rested in them. I never thought a cold as stone agent like her would be so.. soft and breakable. "Here." I handed her a tissue. "I'm a failure at what I do. Those fucking spies will continue to steal stuff without even getting scared about getting caught because--I'm just a failure, okay?" She hiccuped. "You're not a failure." I placed my finger under her chin. "Yes I am." She pulled away. "Stop thinking that way. You're a great secret agent and you know it." I took her face into my hands. She stared deeply into my eyes and I stared deeply into hers. She didn't pull away this time, only just sitting there and looking into my eyes. "Thanks." She whispered and placed her forehead upon mine. What am I doing? I pulled away and looked down at the hardwood flooring. "What's the matter?" She asked softly, brushing the hair out of my face. "Nothing, I just.." I stood up and headed towards the door. "I guess I'll see you at dinner." She mumbled before turning back around to her desk. I noticed that the table was really starting to become empty. Everyone started to drop out from this whole slavery thing and the spies killed them. The only people that were left was me, Geoff, and Matthew. "Where's Gwen?" I asked Geoff as I stirred my soup with a spoon. "Why are you worried about her?" He looked at me weird. "Who said I was worried? Exactly. I didn't." I growled at him. "Did something happen today, bro? You look guilty or something." He asked. "Well.." I trailed off when I saw Gwen walk into the room and sit down at her place at the table. "Dude, just tell me already." Geoff was becoming impatient. "Shut up and eat your damn meal!" Mary backhanded Geoff across his face. Geoff became overly pissed off and him and the spy starting screaming at each other. They were like two lions roaring at each other in the wild. "I said shut up!" Mary slammed Geoff down onto the table. The table snapped in half and the food atop it went flying everywhere. Blood began to slowly drip from Geoff's head and mouth. I could see Matthew ready to go straight into a crying fit. He covered his eyes and zooming out of his mouth and onto the floor was a foul green liquid. He fell out of his chair and he began puking all over himself. I got up out of my chair and fell to his side. "Matthew, are you okay?" I shrieked in panic. His response was more vomit rocketing out of his mouth. "Someone get him a doctor!" My voice boomed off of the dining room walls. "No doctor for him. Best thing to do is to get it over with." Mary pulled out a shotgun and loaded it. I immediately slapped the gun out of her hand and it slid across the marble floor. The gun was somehow triggered and a bullet went flying into my ankle. I screamed out in pain and fell to my knees, gripping my ankle. The last thing I saw before I passed out was Gwen's terror filled face. My eyes opened and I quickly closed them because they were exposed to a bunch of bright lights beaming down on me. I looked over and saw Matthew hooked up on a machine with his eyes closed. He had one of those breathing masks over his mouth and I listened to every breath he took, making sure he was okay. "Good morning." A gentle voice came from the left side of my bed. I looked to my left and saw a smiling spy sitting beside me. "Hey." I smiled. "How are you feeling?" She traced her fingers softly along the bandages on my ankle. "I'm feeling better than when I was shot." I laughed and she laughed along with me. Geoff burst through the door and ran over to my bed and gave me a huge bear hug. "Bro, are you alright? You scared me back there." He shook me around like a rag doll as he hugged me. "Dude, I'm fine." I chuckled and pulled his arms off of me. The wide grin on his face quickly faded into a dark scowl. "What's up?" I asked. I then noticed that Gwen was holding my hand, our fingers intertwined. "Don't you ever touch my friend! Ever!" He slapped her hand away from me. "It's okay, man. Chill out." I slightly pushed him with my hand that wasn't hooked up to a machine. "It's okay? She fucking held us like prisoners for about two years now and you think it's okay? What the fuck is wrong with you?" He stood up from the bed and just full on started screaming at me. "She's doing a good thing." I protested. "Yeah, but that still doesn't mean she has to lock us up like animals!" He stormed out of the room and slammed the door shut. "Gwen, I-." She cut me off. "No, it's not okay." She ran out of the room with her hands over her eyes. "Trent?" A squeaky voice came. I looked over and saw Matthew with his eyes open. "Matthew!" I stumbled out of bed and hugged him gently. "How could you?" He whispered into my ear. "How could I what, son?" I looked into his eyes with my teary ones. "How could you love that woman?" He was speaking softly, but on the inside I knew he wanted to scream. "I don't-." He cut me off. "Yes you do. I watched you smile. I watched you hold her hand. I watched the concern on your face grow when she ran out of the room." He continued to speak in a calm, yet deadly voice. "Son, I..I don't know what to say." I broke away from the embrace and just stared at his incredibly hurt face. "You love the woman who killed my mother, that's what." His eyes flooded with tears and he was still talking as smooth as a feather. "No, son, I-." He cut me off once more. "I'm not your son. You're no better than the spies that killed her!" He shouted in a deafening tone. "What's going on in here?" Scott slammed the door open and glared at us. I sat on my bed and stared down at my bare feet. "We're leaving in about an hour, so get as much sleep as you can because as soon as we get back to the secret organization lab, it is back to work for the both of you." He chuckled before leaving behind a closed door. I felt so dead inside. Even if Matthew isn't exactly my son, I took care of him for almost two years. He's like a part of me. He fills the sadness I received when Marianne left me. Now that Matthew said that I'm not his father.. I just feel so horrible. I looked over and saw that his back was facing me. I sighed and climbed under the white sheets and before I could try to get some sleep, spies came in through the door. "Get up." Duncan screamed in my ear. "I'd like to take a separate car from Trent, if that's okay." Geoff asked Dawson, one of the spies, with a straight face. "Me too." Matthew ran up and stood beside Geoff. I watched Gwen walk out of the hospital doors slowly with her eyes fixed on the concrete path she was walking upon. "Hey, Gwen-." Seth, another one of the spies, stopped me from walking another step towards her. "Back off." He hissed. Duncan went over and wrapped his arm around her shoulders and walked towards one of the black cars. She looked at me with tears in her eyes and quickly looked away before burying her flooding eyes into Duncan's shoulder. The car ride back wasn't exactly comforting either. I had two spies on both sides of me hold guns to my head. "Matthew, wait." I called out and was about to grab his shoulder when he ran off inside the lab, not even looking back. I sat in the large, empty hallway in the haunted house like place. I placed my face in my hands and held back my tears as hard as I could. 'I just literally fucked up my life more..' I thought, a tear streaming down my cheek. "Get back to work." Heather kicked me harshly in the side with her painful as hell heel. "Yes, mam." I mumbled and continued to scrub the floor with a cloth. 'How can this day get any worse?' I spoke too soon. My vision became blurry and I felt dizzy. I fell back onto the floor and stared up at the dark, cobweb ceiling. I heard chuckling and whispering. "Just throw him in the car?" One voice asked. "As long as it gets the job done, I could give a rat's ass." Another stood over me. I tried to make out the figure, but my vision was just too fuzzy. It sounded like a couple of males standing around me but they didn't sound like any of the spies here. I blacked out before one of them could speak another word.
Our favorite place we used to go
The warm embrace that no one knows
The loving look that's left your eyes
That's why this comes as no, as no surprise
If I could see the future and how this plays out
I bet it's better than where we are now
But after going through this, it's easier to see the reason why
I woke up in yet another dark room. Except this time I wasn't in a small, transparent box. I was chained to an icy cold metal bed and for some reason my shirt and pants were missing. At least the person had the decency to leave my boxers on me. "Ah, yes, Trent Andrews of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is so great to finally meet you." The unknown, familiar male voice came from behind me. I tried turning my head a little to see the man speaking to me, but I cried out in pain and stopped. When I had moved my head just a little, a ninja star looking thing sliced slightly into my neck. "Sorry, those are there to make sure you don't escape." He painfully yanked the jagged star out of my neck. This time I looked with just my eyes to see that there were hundreds of sharp weapons on each side of my head. Knives, swords, ninja stars, you name it. I looked up and saw guns of all sorts dangling above my head. "Make any sudden movements or have your head sliced open with weapons or exploded with guns." He chuckled. "How can you even shoot me? There's no one up there to trigger the guns." I stupidly pointed out. "Oh, I love it when my prisoners doubt me." He walked over to his room sized computer and tapped away on his keyboard. The guns started moving up and down. "Hey, boss, here's your coffee-." The man shot the guy about 40 times in the chest and he fell onto the floor covered in a bloody mess. "My clients are so easy and fun to kill. I never run out because he'll be replaced in less than a second." He chuckled and a man stepped out of a machine and greeted his new boss. "Hello, master. I am Alex number 405. How can I help you?" It sounded like a completely normal human. You couldn't even tell if it were a robot or not. "Go dump John number 210's body somewhere." He ordered. "Yes, master." Alex bowed his head before picking up John's body and rushing out the door. In a split second he was back and had already cleaned up the blood with a blink of an eye. "Will that be all, master?" Alex asked. "Yes, that is all." He shooed him away. "May I ask you why the hell you have captured me and I'm half naked?" I hissed. "I almost forgot to tell you," He chuckled, "I've captured you because I know you know where the spies that I've been looking for for almost a decade now is located. I've kidnapped you and your two friends and I won't let you go until you tell me where they are located." He walked over to my metal bed and stared down at me with his crimson eyes. "Why am I half naked?" I asked him with disgust pouring from my voice. "Well, if you don't answer me, some of my clones might just have their way with you." He chuckled. "Excuse me?" I felt the blood boiling in my head. "I'm not talking about women either. I'm talking about men who have really weird fetishes." He picked up a male reproductive organ sex toy that had spikes all over it. "I think I'm gonna be sick-." I was cut off when I started blowing chunks all over myself. "Isn't this fun?" His dark laughter bounced off the walls. "Let me go!" I screamed, shaking my shackles furiously. "Not until you answer my questions.." He said in a sing-song voice. "Fine. What do you want to know?" I just wanted to rip these chains off of my hands and feet and just slap him thousands of times in the face. "You already know." He chuckled. I thought of Gwen. I can't let him find her and kill her. I mean.. I just can't. "No. I'm not going to tell you." I screamed. "Wrong answer." He pressed a button and in came 5 half naked men. They ran over and they stared at me with their hungry faces. "Not yet, my children." He spoke and they all groaned. He ordered them to stand by my hands and feet to pull on a lever that would yank the chains and cause me to be in pain. "Now, tell me, where is the secret agent Gwendolyn and her spies located?" He slammed his fist on the metal table, cracking it slightly. "I'll never tell!" I shouted that over and over. The men robots turns the lever in a circular motion and my arms and legs were being painfully stretched. I screamed so loud I thought I'd never get to talk again for the rest of my life. "Would you like to see how your friend Geoff is doing?" The man walked over to his computer and pulled up a surveillance camera of Geoff lying on a metal table that looked like the one I was one. He legs and arms were so stretched out that his bones popped out through his skin. There were bullet holes all over his body, especially his head. Blood was flooding from every part of his body. One part of his body was bleeding the most and it almost made me vomit. About three 'toys' were shoved up his anus and blood was terribly flowing out of his rectum. "Oh my God.." I shut my eyes tight and held back my tears. "Yes, he's dead. He wouldn't answer me just like you aren't right now." He sighed and shook his head with slight laughter. "Where's my son?" I darted my eyes at him. "Oh, he's being asked questions right now. Give me a sec." He held his finger up at me and pulled up another surveillance camera of Matthew lying on the same metal table as I am. "I want my daddy!" Matthew was screaming, thrashing about, and crying. "You don't get your father until you tell me where they are!" A robot man slapped Matthew on his bare chest with a whip. "You're not seriously going to let your clones have their way with him, are you?!" I shouted at the top of my lungs. "Sure, why not?" He boomed with laughter. "Let me out of here! Let my son go!" I screamed. "He's yours." The man said to his robots before leaving the room. The five half naked men jumped on me and began kissing me on every inch of my body. "My precious." One of them reached into my underwear. "Help!" I cried out. A large tank came crashing through the cement block wall. "Go! Go! Go!" Duncan jumped out of the tank and following him were all of the other spies holding guns. The five men were shot down to the floor and finally off of me. "Trent!" Gwen came running towards me and broke the chains with just her bare hands. "Gwen!" I hugged her. "Are you okay?" She looked up at me. "I'm fine, but Matthew is locked up in a room somewhere being tortured and Geoff is.." I trailed off, starting to become choked up. "Find Matthew now!" Gwen ordered a small group of the spies to go searching for him. "I want to go with them." I got up from the table. "It'll be dangerous." She stared into my eyes. "I don't care. He's my son and I'm supposed to protect him." I caught up with the guards. We found Matthew being taken advantage of by a creepy old man. "Matthew!" I took one of the spies' guns and shot the man straight in the head. "Daddy!" Once his chains were broken, he came crying into my arms. "I missed you." I held him gently. "Daddy, I'll never leave you again." He cried into my shoulder. "Ssh, ssh. It's going to be okay now." I soothed. "Excuse me, but we need to get the fuck out of here before we're all killed." Alejandro grabbed me by the arm and went with the group of spies to get back to the tank. The tank was destroyed and the wall was somehow repaired with it's cement blocks. "Oh well, we'll just-." Duncan tried to shoot down the cement blocks, but the bullet bounced off of the block and hurled right into his shoulder. "Bandage him." Gwen ordered Robert and Seth. "Well, well, well. If it isn't Gwendolyn Vinokurov." The man who captured us came up on his computer. "You." She hissed, her fists clenched. "Yes, it's me. Ryan Schulze. Your worst fucking nightmare." He smiled, his pointy shark like teeth showing. "Я убью тебя и вырвать ваши внутренние органы и съесть ваш бьющееся сердце!" She screamed in her Russian language. "You say you're going to kill me, but you never do. You're a horrible agent!" He laughed and the building boomed with his clone's laughter. She looked down at the ground in defeat. I placed my hand upon her shoulder and she shook it of and looked up at Ryan. "This is the last time you will humiliate me to the world. You. Me. Lets go!" She shouted. "If you want to fight me, you'll have to get past my none ending army of clones!" He laughed and thousands of clones came bursting through the doors. "Destroy the clone machines! Destroy them all!" Gwen shouted before she went down with a mountain of clones attached to her body like unwanted mosquitoes consuming the blood beneath your skin. Before I knew it the entire room was full of robot clones. There was not an inch left of space in this room. I looked down to my side to make sure Matthew was alright but he was no longer clutching my hand in terror. He was lost in the sea of killer clones. "Matthew!" I called out. All I heard was the screaming of the dieing spies and the creepy laughter of the clones as they began killing them off one by one. Their laughter sounded like those little deadly creatures named Gremlins who used to be cute and cuddly animals. I was suddenly lifted up out of the sea of clones and drifted over the top of them as if they were waves. I tried to grab on to something to make me stop but the strong force of the clones kept pushing me on like fast rapids floating down a river. I couldn't see any of the spies, Gwen, or even Matthew through the enormous sea of clones. I saw a small hand shoot up a couple feet away from me. It began thrashing about and it was so desperate that it started to grab air with no luck of getting out. I finally learned how to move with the 'clone wave' and floated towards the hand. I fell through a small space and looked up a small boy's terrified face. "Dad!" He tucked himself under my arm and shielded his eyes away from the zombie like clones. I found a blood covered shotgun and I loaded it back up with the bullets that were lying beside it, also covered in blood. I grabbed Matthew's hand and began pushing my way through the clones, shooting one in the head every now and again. I tripped over a couple of wires and fell through an open elevator. I turned over on my back and looked up at the clones walking towards us. I swear this felt just like a horror movie. We're running for our lives from these zombie like clone things and there's a bunch of spies who try to save us, you know, a typical horror movie classic.. I think. I quickly stood up and pressed all the buttons. I didn't care which one I pushed, as long as it took Matthew and I to safety. Some of the clones' body parts got in the way of the elevator door closing, so a couple of limbs and heads had been sliced off into the elevator with us. Matthew stood behind me in complete fear of the body parts rolling around in the tiny moving room we were in. The smell of the blood squirting out of the body parts almost made me vomit. The elevator door opened to a dark room. We stepped over the blood and gore and into the room, our shoes squeaking on the floor because of the blood on the bottom of them. "Hello?" I stupidly called out. Fire roared from behind us. We both turned around and I kept Matthew behind me, shielding him. A man with dark crimson eyes, brown hair, and a black robe was sitting on a throne that was surrounded by flames bursting out of the floor. "Welcome to paradise." Ryan chuckled before he snapped his fingers. More flames roared all around the room in a circle. Now that the room was lit I could now see that the remaining spies were being held in cages. They were all covered in blood, cuts, and bruises. Gwen was kept in a separate cage from all of them. "Gwen-." I walked towards her, but flames that shot up from the floor stopped me in my tracks. "Don't even think about it." He sneered. "You let her and the spies go." I demanded. "Or what? What are you going to do? Try to become a hero so you can save your little girlfriend and this pipsqueak you're hiding behind you?" His dark laughter echoed off of the walls. "What are we going to do, dad?" Matthew tugged at my sleeve. "Aw, is this your daddy? How sweet. Gwen must be your whore of a mother. Too bad both of your parents are going to die today." He cooed at him. I ran towards him with the shotgun. "I'll fucking kill you!" I shouted. "Wrong decision." He snapped his fingers and coming through the elevator was five of his clones. Three of them stopped me from even touching him and started dragging me out of the room into a much darker room. "Dad!" Matthew tried running towards me but the two other clones grabbed him and took him away. "Let me go!" I shouted, trying to escape from their grasp to save him. I was thrown into a cage that had rusty metal bars. On the inside of the cage were human bones and rotting human flesh that had thousands of flies swarming around it. I started to scream and I shook the rusty metal bars. "Smith 105, take care of the prisoner. We're going to see if master needs any more assistance." Two of the clones left the room. "Let me out of here-." The clone cut me off when he barged into my cage and whacked me over the head with a rifle. I was unaware of what happened after that.
It's no surprise I won't be here tomorrow
I can't believe that I stayed till today
Yeah you and I will be a tough act to follow
But I know in time we'll find this was no surprise
"Wake up!" Someone shouted, striking me harshly in the side. My eyes fluttered open to the sight of bloody spies being held in cages and a lonesome female spy in her own small cage in the corner. "Good morning, did you sleep well?" Ryan came out from behind me with a smile and a whip in his hand. "What kind of a question is that?" I hissed at him. "Just making sure you had one last night of good rest." He chuckled and folded the whip in his hand. I growled and tried standing up, but I soon realized I was tied to a chair. "Last good rest? What's that supposed to mean?" I shook the chair with my body. "I thought you were a smart guy, Trent. I can't believe you haven't figured out yet that I'm going to kill you and your son." Ryan tested the whip by slapping it against the floor with a loud crack. "Where's my son?" I sneered. "He's around.." Ryan chuckled. "You tell me where my son is, or I'll-." I was slapped across the face with the whip. "Or what?" He devilishly smirked. I held my eyes tightly closed as I tried to bear the unbelievable pain that stung my face. The pain was like almost as if a hundred yellow jackets attacked my face. "Answer me." He struck me again, but this time he struck me even harder. "Never mind." I fell over in pure agony with the chair still clinging to me. "Good. Now, enough about you. Let's move over to Mrs. Trent over here." He walked over to Gwen's cage. Her mouth was covered in tape and her arms and legs were tied up. Her eyes drifted over to mine before she quickly looked down at the bottom of her cage, a tear dropping from one of her dark as night eyes. "You are a disgrace." He sneered, opened the cage, and threw her out onto the floor. She grunted in pain. "You are an abomination." He struck her in the side with the whip. She winced slightly. "Most of all, you are a failure of a spy. You don't even know how many valuable items I have stolen around the world right from under your nose!" He shouted with laughter. Gwen's eyes widened to the size of hot air balloons. "That's right, I have hidden treasures outside my lab. I stole them. I stole them all." He opened a curtain to reveal what was hiding behind his lab in a field of nowhere. The spies gasped and Gwen stared with tears in her eyes. "I stole the Venus de Milo from France, the Spring Temple Budha from China, the Great Sphinx of Giza from Egypt, the Famous Five statues from Canada, the Victory Column from Germany, the Statue of Liberty from New York, and the Colossus of Barletta from Italy." He pointed each and every one of them out individually. The spies in the cages started acting like wild animals and tried to break free from their prison. "Let us out of here you evil son of a bitch!" Duncan shouted, shaking the bars of the cage. "I want to see my son!" I yelled over the outraged spies. "Clones, find his son." Ryan snapped his fingers. Two of the clones threw Matthew through the opened elevator door. "Dad!" He ran over and put the chair upright before jumping into my lap with his arms around me. "Are you okay? Did they hurt you?" I examined his body for any wounds. "No. It seems to me like they hurt you." He looked at the whip scars on my face with concern. "Shut it." Ryan demanded the clones tie up Matthew to a chair that would be tied up to the back of mine. "Let us free." Alejandro sneered. "I'll only let you guys and Gwen go, on one condition." Ryan held up his finger with a devilish smile. "Wait, what about myself and Matthew?" I protested, but he ignored me. "I'll let you guys go if you join my spy agency." He held out his hand as if he were going to have a handshake agreement with them. The spies quickly refused and started screaming again. Gwen, on the other hand, just lied on the floor with not even a response. "What's it going to be, Gwen? Do you want to be killed, or would you rather be by my side dominating the world?" Ryan walked over to her. Gwen looked at me for a split second before looking up at Ryan and nodding. Everyone in the room gasped, including myself. "Good choice." He untied Gwen and ripped the piece of tape from her mouth. "What are you doing, Gwen?" Seth cried in disbelief. "She's obviously choosing life over death." Ryan chuckled. "Welcome to the force." One of the clones shook her hand. "This isn't fucking Star Wars." Ryan hissed at him. "Thank you. I've always wanted to be in a spy agency that is actually good." Gwen shook the clone's hand with a blank facial expression. "Traitor!" Eva shouted, pointing at her. The rest of the spies shook their disappointed heads at their leader. Gwen walked up and stared down at me. "Gwen.. how could you?" I whispered, trying to hold back tears. "I want this. I need this. You and Matthew were just a sacrifice to Ryan so I could join his agency. I was only kissing your ass so I would get you to fall for me and do anything for me. Welcome to fucking reality." She slapped me across the face before walking over to stand beside Ryan's side. I just couldn't believe what she just told me. All of that was fake? "I knew I shouldn't have trusted you! You're a cold hearted evil bitch that deserves to burn in hell for all eternity!" I also couldn't believe the words that were flying out of my mouth and hitting her in the face. The elevator door opened and so did all of the other ten doors in the room. They were all filled with zombie looking clones that looked like they were ready to kill. "Destroy them." Ryan demanded. Thousands of clones barged in through the door with weapons of all sorts. I tried wiggling my way out of the ropes, but they just wouldn't budge. A large handful of clones tackled Matthew and I onto the floor. "Die!" One of them lifted a sword up before stabbing me deep into the chest. I coughed up a mouth full of blood before I socked the clone in the face with my fist and taking his sword and slicing his head off. I cut the ropes off of me and Matthew and began looking for the cage the spies were in. "Trent, dude, we're so happy to see you." Duncan smiled. I broke the lock with my sword and the spies were set free. "There is a machine that brings clones into the world, right? Yeah, go and destroy that." I remembered Gwen's words in my head. "Yes, sir." Alejandro motioned his hand to a couple of spies to follow him and they dived into the sea of clones and found a way out. "You guys know what to do." I nodded my head to them. The spies nodded in response before helping me kill the clones. "Dad, what can I do?" Matthew tugged at my sleeve. "Just stay out of the way and find some place safe to hide." I patted his shoulder. "Okay." He ran off to find somewhere to hide. We finally made a bloody path to the exit and made it to the torture room with the machines. "I need something to destroy it with!" Alejandro yelled from over the Gremlin like laughter of the clones. "Here, take this-." One of the clones took my sword out of my hand and ate it. "What the-." It tackled me and started biting through my neck as if it were a vampire. I screamed as thousands of little clones chewed at my flesh and blood pours from my body. I was horrified that my blood was on the face of creepy little creations that come from a machine. Eva came running towards me and sliced the heads off of the clones with an ax covered in spikes. "Maybe I could just destroy it with my hands-." Alejandro tried pulling the large cord from the machine, but a large spark of electricity shocked him and set him flying across the room. From here I could see the evil clones ripping his stomach open and eating the organs inside of him. I took the spiked ax from Eva and ran towards the machine, slicing through clones on my way there. "Trent, stop!" Duncan shouted as he was fighting off the clones. "Don't Trent!" Seth screamed. I jumped up in the air a few feet away from the cord and threw the ax at the cord, slicing it open. An enormous blast of electricity burst out of the machine and struck the ceiling. The ceiling began to catch on fire and spread like wildfire around the room. Weapons and chunks of the ceiling began raining down and began making it rain blood. The smoke was so intense that my eyes started burning. I fell to my knees, held my hands over my eyes, and began to rapidly cough. "Dad!" I heard Matthew cried. "Matthew?" I coughed, trying to look through the thick black smoke. "Help me!" He cried. "Shut up!" Ryan yelled. I picked up one of the guns that wasn't on fire and ran towards the sound of Matthew screaming. The screaming led me into another large room that had metal railing all around it leading to the roof outside. I watched Ryan drag Matthew across the railing towards the exit. "I'm coming Matthew!" I yelled, running up the metal stairs. A part of the railing in front of me crashed down onto the flaming floor. "See you later." Ryan chuckled and turned to start running towards the exit, but the railing in front of him also fell onto the floor beneath him. "Whatever. I'll just kill him right here." He picked up Matthew by the collar of his shirt and held him over the railing and over the flames bursting up off of the floor. "Dad, help me!" Matthew cried. "Yes, dad, help him." Ryan boomed with laughter. I saw a chain that was dangling above me. I grabbed it and swung to the railing that Ryan and Matthew was on. "Move one more step and I'll drop him into the fire!" Ryan shouted, shaking Matthew by his collar. I agreed to not touch him and he set Matthew down. I immediately tackled him off of the railing and we both landed on a part of the floor that wasn't on fire. He took a handful of ashes and threw them in my face. I screamed, covered my eyes, and rolled off of him. He grabbed a knife from his pocket and stabbed me in the shoulder. I stood up and painfully ripped the knife out of my shoulder. "What are you going to do now, hero? I've won." Ryan smirked. I threw the knife and it sliced into his head. He smiled before falling forward, the knife going all the way through his head. I picked up his body and through it into the fire. The railing Matthew was on started to shake and a couple of the bolts holding it together fell on my head. "Matthew, jump!" I held out my arms. He jumped into my arms and I got out of the way of the railing falling on us. "This way, Trent!" Duncan motioned his hand for us to follow him to the exit. "Trent!" I heard a voice from behind me. It was Gwen who was lying on the floor under a large machine. "Go with Duncan, I'll catch up." I instructed Matthew before walking over to Gwen. "Help me." She coughed. "Why should I help you?" I scowled at her. "Because.. I was about to save you." She whispered. "Save me? You didn't even consider saving me back there! Nor did you want to save the lives of the people you work with! All you wanted was life and a better agency to work at! You're a selfish piece of shit is what you are!" I shouted at the top of my lungs. "That's not true. By him letting me join his agency I had control over what the clones did. I was going to order the clones to kill Ryan when I had the chance but I was too late.." She choked out. "I don't believe you." I turned to leave. "Why would I keep you alive then? When I first captured you I was going to kill you but I didn't, because.." She trailed off. "Because what?" I turned to her. "I-." She was cut off when more pieces of the ceiling came raining down. I turned to look at the door and then at her. I pushed the machine off of her and picked her up before running towards the door. I dodged every flame as I ran as fast as I could out of the burning building. I tripped over the bodies of the clones and Gwen slid across the floor. I heard something fall with a loud crash onto the floor. I looked over and saw Gwen trapped under a huge pile of cement blocks. "Gwen!" I ran over to her side. I watched as a puddle of blood formed around her. "Just go." She whispered. "No, I can't just leave you here!" I grabbed her hand. I couldn't believe my feelings were just pouring out. Tears began to plummet from my eyes. "It was nice meeting you, Trent." She placed a hand on my cheek. "Gwen, no.." I held her hand that was on my cheek. "I love you." She pulled me down for a warm, sweet kiss. "I love you too." I pulled away and stared deeply into her eyes. The flames got even more wild and started swaying fast. "Go!" She shouted. I ran out of the building and fell across the grass, breathing in fresh air. "What took you so long?" Duncan questioned. I turned around and watched the building collapse before me. "I had to say goodbye to someone.." I whispered. "Who?" He asked. "It doesn't matter." I walked away from the building, not looking back.
...
After all of that everything went somewhat back to normal. I started playing again at the coffee shop and I even told 'tales' of what happened to me on those days that were most dark for me. When Matthew heard Gwen's side of the story from me he completely broke down. He said he would be proud to have her as his mother. I even said I would be proud to have her as my wife. I've actually been dreaming about that everyday since. I would've loved spending the rest of my life with her. I would've loved making a family with her and raise them with her. I just wish I could go back to that day and stop Gwen from getting hurt. "I miss her." Matthew, now 11, lied his head upon my shoulder. "I miss her too." I whispered, staring down at her tombstone. "Do you think she's in a better place now?" He looked up at me. "Of course. I'm sure she's smiling down at us and enjoying her time in the afterlife." I wrapped my arm around him and gave him a side hug. "I'm going to go wait in the car." He started to walk off. "Okay, I'll catch up." I called out. "Oh, wait. Almost forgot something." He came running back with something in his hand. He lied a heart shaped piece of paper up against her tombstone that said, 'Happy Mother's Day! Dad and I both love you!' He wiped his eyes of tears before walking towards the car. I smiled as I stared down at the beautiful gift he made for her. "I love you." I whispered before walking away. A gust of wind came and I swear I heard 'I love you too' in the wind. I turned around and didn't see anyone. I chuckled and left the cemetery smiling and happy, knowing that Gwen is with Matthew and I. I saw him standing on the rocks by the cliff looking out at the ocean. "What are you doing?" I questioned him. "I don't know.. it's like, I can feel mom right here with me. I can here her." He continued to stare out at the waves slowly rippling towards the rocks below. "That's the beauty of it, son." I smiled. "Come on, let's go home." Matthew smiled up at me. "Alright." I held back for a little bit and looked one last time out into the ocean before heading off, not looking back.
Our favorite place we used to go
The warm embrace that no one knows
The loving look that's left your eyes
That's why this comes as no, as no surprise
