This fanfiction is not in forum form do NOT FREAK at me! I'm only posting 2-possibly 3 parts, so I thought with all the other forums going, I shouldn't post this one in a forum.
Now to oblige to the rules of fanficism on the Heroes of Olympus spot...
Title: Silent but Deadly
Rating: C
Type: Fiction, fantasy, history, romance, possibly sad
Characters: Kalypso Reagan (spelling intentional) and Ellie Jacynthe
Synopsis: Kalli is ready to help her friend find a way to go back to her family, what she would do if she could. She's ready to go on a quest, which has been denied from her for years, ready to show the world what she's got and get a voice.
Disclaimer: If I owned Percy Jackson... For starters I'd be writting this on my own laptop, second I would not be writting this but I'd be writting Son of Neptune.
A/N: This happens when Piper, Jason, and Leo the Epic just get back from their quest. This is for redhawks, Idunn, lightning, rick, Roheha, Amph, harrypotterbest and my peeps in the Hufflepuff common room.
Silent but deadly
I know, that's how you describe farts, but that's also how my friends describe me. And they are right.
I am silent, because I am mute, and I am deadly, because I am trained to kill.
It wasn't my decision. But think of how animals adapt themselves to their enviroment to survive. I had to do the same, and I had to learn to kill.
I was only 9 when I found out. It was 3 years pre-destined. My mother was mad, but the great thing about mom was that she couldn't stay mad, no matter how much she tried.
She used to make me cuddle up with her on the couch when I felt down and she's tell me about when she traveled the world after college, all the monuments, castles and architectural wonders she saw, and all the people she met. And she never said it, but I knew that included my dad.
I got info about him once out of her. She says he was another traveler. That they were supposed to board the same boat to go to Madagascar from the coast of Tanzania, but there was not enough room on the boat, so thy had to seperate. And then his boat went missing. They don't know where it sunk or docked, they dont know if anybody from that trip is still breathing to this day. She said it was because of him that I can do the things I can. That I'm so quiet and sneaky, and that I can jump 3 stories down and land swift as a cat. The reason I'm good enough to try out for the US National gymnastics team if I wanted to.
My father is Hermes. I'm assuming if you're reading this, if you didn't buy the "he died going to Madagascar" story, you already know who Hermes is, so I rest my case on that one.
The use of past tense wasn't accidental. She caught AIDS from a patient when she spilled a blood sample at the hospital 2 years ago. And what could I do about it? I can kill monsters, do triple front flips, fall from 5 stories and land swift as a cat: but I couldn't save my mother.
My aunt Ingrid refused to take me in after she died. She yelled I was devil's child, etc, etc before I had enough and went back in the car to wait for the social services agent to give up too.
I ran away to camp, and I'm still here today.
It's tough, being who I am. Only 5 people at camp know sign language. My sister Corinne, my best friend Elly, Chiron, my brother Chris who has a deaf step-brother and Clarisse for some reason. The rest of them, I can't talk to. When I was younger especially it was tough. I had to be really good at mimming. Hephaestus cabin built me this thing, about the size of a cell phone. They call it the Talker. I can type in sentances to show people what I mean. It's been a life saver.
But even then, you try getting the brutes from Ares to wait for you to type "leave me alone" or "Travis threw it at you not me" on a cell phone before they hit you. It doesn't work. But Clarisse leaves me alone, so according to Travis I don't get the worst of it.
Elly was sitting under a frozen mapple tree. Her coat was long and black, and she had a black scarf wrapped tight around her neck. Her hair was brown and curly going down to her waist, and her eyes had some weird condition called heterochromia where they have two colors. Her eyes are olive green with a brown section in the right. Her skin is peachy and her eyebrows thinn. She's very small and light, but her arm is so good, you do not want to go anywhere near her when she is holding a club.
-Kalli, come down, you'll break your neck! She called. I waved her off but reajusted myself in my tree perch.
-When's the last time that happened? I said.
Hear me out, when I say "said" I mean "signed".
-Never. But still...
-Worry wart.
-Am not! There is no mattress to catch you if you fall, and let me tell you, its not nice, soft snow down here. I rolled my eyes.
-Kalli, I'm serious. She moanned.
-Why now you're worried I'll hurt myself doing a stunt, that's never been a problem. I said, climbing down.
-I dont know... I just have a gut feeling now would be a stupid time to get hurt. She said. I jumped off the branch and landed on my feet, swift as a cat.
-Kalli, you'll kill yourself!
-No I wont El, why are you being such a worry wart? I asked. She sighed.
-I need to talk to you, but not here. She said. I got up and followed her to the Aphrodite cabin. Elly oppened the door and I stepped inside. Drew was sitting on her bed, doodling in her sketch pad, a few of her sisters sitting besides her complimenting the drawing.
-Drew, can you step out for a minute?
-No.
-Please?
-Even more no, freak eye. She said. I signed a rude name to her, and I guess all Aphrodite kids can read the start of cat fights in any language, because she was very offended.
-It's not like you're any better. I think I know why freak eye hangs out with you, it makes her feel normal. Drew snapped. I sprang forth ready to slap that hellhound but Elly grabbed my wrist, long enough for Drew and her two body guards to have stomped out the door, grabbing their coats of the chest at the foot of Drew's bed.
-Sorry Kalli, she's been even worst since Piper took over last week. Elly said untying her scarf and laying both winter garnments on her bed. I waited for her to turn around to talk.
-Does it not bother you to be called freak eye?
-Yes. Not as much as it bothers me she's picking on you.
-Don't mind me, I make myself understood enough.
-I noticed. Elly smiled for a minute before sitting down on her bunk. I climbed up to the top bunk in front. I could see Elly's clothing box. Even there "Elly" was engraved. Because Elly was most definetly an Elly, not a No, an elle, an O, a Noey or Nola, and most definetly not a Noelle as claimmed by her birth certificate. No, most definetly an Elly. With Drew being all stuck up and refined and uptight, I couldn't picture playful Elly being even her cousin.
-What's wrong Elly? You look all sad.
-My dad's back at rehab. She said, bitting her lip.
-Oh... I'm sorry.
-Don't be. But this time its worst.
-Why? I said remmebering the time Elly had gotten hate mail from him, asking for money.
-Because its not his fault. Elly said.
-What do you mean its not his falt?
-He's cursed by Dionysos. It's why he's into alcohool, all along he could be a nice guy.
-Yeah. I said highly, highly doubting it.
-And the thing is... I know how to make it better.
-How? If you need help, I'm in, Elly.
-Thanks Kalli, but its super dangerous.
-And so is living here. What is it?
-I made a pact with the goddess of history; Clio. I'm leaving tonight.
-I'm coming! I declared.
-No, its too dangerous! Elly said.
-Look Elly, I know you really want to live with your dad, but for that, he needs to get better. I'm coming.
-You dont even know what you're getting yourself into.
-It doesn't matter.
-Fine Kalli. But you should know where we're going.
-Okay, I'm listening.
**************************************************
-Kalli? I heard Elly call softly. I unfolded myself from the crevice I'd been hidding in. Zeus' fist was pitch black, but Elly lit the way with a lighter.
-Where were you? It's 11:59! I said, using the Talker.
-I'm sorry, I had to wait for Drew to fall asleep. Elly said. My watch beeped: midnight. And then there was a sound like a lyre being strummed and out of nowhere walked a woman. She glowed with gold light, wearing an Ancient Greek dress, her hair done up. Her eyes sparkled green like fields and her hair was the color of honey. She hugged a dozen or so scrolls to her chest. My heart started beating because now there was no turning back for either one of us.
-Noelle Jacynthe. Kalypso Reagan. The goddess aquainted.
-Milady. Elly whispered.
-You are sure of this? She asked. Elly took out a knife and with a clean movement, cut her hair up to shoulder lenght. She handed the streak to the muse.
-My part of the bargain. Yours? Clio took the hair and it disapeered as soon as her fingers made contact. Cut off her hair... I couldn't believe Elly did that! She'd been growing it since second grade, planning on giving it to a society that made wigs for children recovering from cancer! Besides, doing that would make half her sisters pass out! That made me want to do this more.
Clio gave us a sac each.
-You will need theese. She said. We swung them over our shoulders.
-Thank you. Elly said. Clio waved her hand and we weren't at Zeus' fist anymore.
We were in the middle of the ancient city of Sparta.
