If you want to relive the best fashion moments of the 2000s–and take a look at your high school crush Seth Cohen aka Adam Brody–look no further than
Marissa, Summer, Ryan et al perfected that laid-back, preppy California style that we wanted to copy
bad. It didn’t matter if we lived in places where it actually snowed in winter, or that we didn’t all have houses with beach houses that are bigger than most apartments. Season two of
The O.C. had some great fashion choices. There were lots of interesting layered shirts, and Ryan actually decided to give up his undershirts. And who could forget it was the year that gave us Chrismukkah.

Get ready for cutesy pastel overload. Here is every preppy outfit from season 2 of
The pink-and-white stripes, the little white bow, the flower applique, this could have been the t-shirt that you wore when you were five-years-old if it wasn’t for the large cleavage-revealing cutout.
Some days it’s fine to just wear a hoodie, a jean skirt and flip flops to school. Other days, you want to look more spiffy, especially when there are dance tickets to sell. On those days, you either on a plaid blazer, or you threw a scarf over your shoulder.
It’s Chrismukkah, which means Ryan decides to wear long sleeves, and actually button up his shirt. For Seth, it is a time when he decides to dig out his grandpa’s brown sweater vest. Very geek chic.
This was the outfit Lindsay was so impressed by. (It’s okay if you don’t remember Lindsay, she wasn’t that important.)  Lindsay probably went on to be an art teacher because the clashing colors and strange geometric print are art school prof essentials.
So this is where our desire to layer our shirts with each other came from. It makes sense, since it is normally too cold in
to just wear one layer. At least it saved us from a boob popping out.
Ryan finally traded in his white undershirts for t-shirts over short-sleeved button-down shirts. He also got himself a cross-body school bag to match Seth, proving they are practically brothers.
Here’s more layered shirts! If you’re going to play a rebel, then you must also wear a chunky necklace and have you hair in a massive pompadour. I still can’t believe this is Olivia Wilde.
If you’re Marissa Cooper, you wear a vintage mixed print 1970s coat to your late night burger date. It doesn’t matter if no one else (ahem Ryan) dresses up, or if you get mustard on it, since it will blend in with the print.
You would have searched high and low to get a yellow graphic tee like Summer’s. You would also wear those bubblegum pink sweatpants at every possible opportunity. They were too cute to just wear to meditate. Same with the pigtails.
I have not heard the word “bolero” in a long time, nor have I seen one. Marissa’s red bolero paired with her metallic bag and shrunken t-shirt almost make you want to resurrect the trend.
