ended with Ian Somerhalder’s Damon and Kat Graham’s Bonnie giving into the white light of oblivion. Generally speaking, “giving into the white light of oblivion” might imply that characters will not be returning anytime soon. The 
panel at Comic-Con made light of the characters’ apparent exit, with a video where the actors ponder whether they’ve been written off or granted a spinoff.
However, both Somerhalder and Graham were onstage, along with fellow cast members Nina Dobrev, Matt Davis, and Paul Wesley and
Diaries showrunner Julie Plec. The team revealed that season 6 picks up four months after the finale, with the characters all getting over the events of season 5 in different ways.
She wouldn’t explain where the characters are exactly, though it’s clear they will be together–”being together” in
.” Ian Somerhalder teased possible ‘shipper names: “I definitely think Bamon’s better than Donnie.” Graham simply stated, “I would definitely say you’ll see more interaction between them.” More interaction, hubba hubba!
–With Damon apparently out of the picture, would Stefan and Elena rekindle? Probably not, says Plec. “Right now the love between Damon and Elena is so strong,” explained Plec, “And the friendship between Stefan and Elena has grown strong.”
–The resurrected Alaric is now a teacher at a local college.
