‘The Vampire Diaries': Did Nina Dobrev Reveal Elena’s Ending? — Watch 

Not ready to say goodbye to Elena Gilbert just yet? Well, get ready quick! We have an inside look at our past conversation with Nina Dobrev, about the possible ending for Elena — and it sounds like it may be her goodbye to Mystic Falls and ‘The Vampire Diaries.’

“The fairytale has to end,” Nina Dobrev said in a recent interview about her time on 

. But what will that ending be? Well, we could actually have that answer.

‘The Vampire Diaries\': Elena’s Ending Revealed?

“I would like Elena to go to Europe and go backpacking for a year and ditch the boys . . . and just experience some life without vampires,” Nina Dobrev told HollywoodLife.com exclusively in May 2013 at an event for Origins beauty products.

Sure, this was two years ago, but she’s recently said that she’s known for years that 

“I’ve loved working on this show,” she told 

magazine about leaving. “It’s been such a crazy, awesome adventure, and I’ve been surrounded by so many people who I consider family. I know this is a new exciting step in the right direction for me, but it’s going to be so strange not to be with them.”

Of course, Nina announced on Instagram on April 6 that after this season, she would be done. So here’s my theory on how Elena’s ending will happen: she won’t die, even though the trailers strongly suggest she will. Instead, Jeremy (

Steven McQueen) will return, and convince her that the only way to save Damon from human life is to make him think that she dies — but then they would leave town.

I think this would be the perfect way for Elena to live a human life, with a fresh start. Who knows — it does look like she dies, but I’m kind of hoping the predictable way isn’t the way out.
