There Is a Secret Walking Dead Note Buried Somewhere for Us to Find
The Blu-ray for The Walking Dead season five will be released on August 25, and it contains over three hours of deleted scenes, commentary, and trivia for Walking Dead fans (Walking Deadheads?). Now, EW has previewed one of the commentaries by showrunner Scott Gimple and executive producer Gale Anne Hurd, and it reveals that Gimple buried a note intended for Andrew Lincoln that was never unearthed, but is still lying in the ground somewhere in Georgia.
In the commentary for the premiere episode, "No Sanctuary," Gimple explains that in the season four finale, Rick buried a bag of weapons outside of Terminus. While they were filming, Gimple buried a note for Lincoln to find when they filmed the scene in the fifth season in which the character dug the bag up. But in a little twist of fate, they ultimately filmed the second scene in a different spot, meaning that the note is still waiting to be found.
“What I had done,” said Gimple, “I had buried a note for ourselves when we put the dirt back in the hole that Rick had dug, because Andy did want to dig the hole. And then we wound up shooting this in just a slightly different place. And that note is still out there somewhere.”
For any other show, this would just be a fun little piece of trivia, something to wonder about on a rainy day. But The Walking Dead fans are so devoted, there might actually be a chance that this little mystery will set off a real-life WD scavenger hunt.
“Oh my goodness,” said Hurd on the commentary. “There is going to be a scavenger hunt to find the note! I hope it’s a note you don’t mind if people read.”
“It might be a little corny,” replied Gimple. “That’s about it.”
The idea that the note is "corny" almost makes us want to read it more than if he said it were full of spoilers. Although, it could be both. Maybe it\'s something along the lines of, "I love you so much, Andy, I would never even think about killing you off, no matter how annoying or self-righteous your character gets."
The Walking Dead returns for its sixth season on October 11 on AMC.
