I felt the need to write an article about Fanpop itself. Well, more accurately, it's about how I'm experiencing Fanpop.
I have been on Fanpop for quite a while. I got transferred to the website accidentally by clicking at an image on Google Search. I liked what I saw. Clubs dedicated to everyone's interests, ways of expressing your opinions, meeting fellow fans and contributing on what you love. I immediately signed up. At first, I wasn't really sticking around that much. I was only checking to see new polls and vote on them. They are my favorite part on a club. I was just casting my vote and that was it. I didn't really bothered looking at the other sections and I wasn't interracting with the other fans at all. I rarely even commented after I had voted on a poll. You could say that I was a ghost member. Just a lurker. I didn't really know anyone and I was pretty much a failure at social interaction(I still am, in some ways). Anyway, as time passed, suddenly the impossible happened and I got myself familiriazed with another member. A few others followed. I started becoming a little bit more chatty and active on Fanpop. I also started paying attention to the other sections aside the polls too. That gave me the change to meet more members. I got to know them and gained much more confidence. Now, I'm pretty active. I love posting, answering, voting, stating my opinions and making activities for everyone to participate. I even created a club for myself so people can know me better. I'm still a mess at social interaction and sometimes expressing myself but I have improved a lot from when I first joined. It it sad however, that at the same time Fanpop has decayed. It's really a shame how activity has decreased around here. Quite a lot of clubs can be considered dead right now and I don't really see many members sticking around. Fanpop as a whole, feels to me more like a small community group rather than a social website. It's funny when you think that that's what I believed when I first joined. I'm a member for about 4 years and I started socializing the last 2 years so I'm not sure when was the time that Fanpop went downhill. I just wish there was a little ENTHUSIASM. A few people I have met have already left and some others are seriously considering it right now. To be honest, I have started thinking about that too. Do not misunderstand. It's not that I joined Fanpop for making buddies and sticking close to them till they leave. There is still a decent amount of people in here and there are a lot of chances on getting to know them. The problem, as I mentioned before is the lack of enthusiasm. The reason why so many clubs are considered dead. Very few go out of their way to participate in activities nowadays. The polls makers are few, the people who comment are fewer, the people who actually fan an image or video are few too. It's pretty rare to see a question getting more than 10 answers - opinions and the same applies on most forum threads. That was the reason I came here. To contribute and show my love for all kinds of interests. I expected to find fellow fans who feel the same way here. I still am. It's a disappointment seeing people like that leaving. Same with many remaining ones not making the effort of making a better Fanpop. I cannot help but feel disappointed when I'm the only one supporting an entire club. I contribute on it so I can bring it high to the list of updated clubs. So I can make the fans notice it, to come back and see that the interest in it remains. Pretty much, to return it to it's former glory. Sadly, many of these contributions are staying only to myself. I'm not saying that I will certainly leave the site but perhaps a time might come where my activities on here will slowly start to cease.
Anyway, I wanted to get this off my chest. This is just a view of mine on Fanpop these days. Just my opinion that revolves around the clubs that I have visited. Also, I have always wanted to do a review of how I got to know Fanpop and my progress in here. So, I guess that's killing two birds with one stone. I want to thank everyone who took the time to read this and I would love to read about your experiences here as well as your views on Fanpop at the moment too !!!!
