When Touma questions what she’s after, Cromwell explains that, twenty years ago, there was an attempt to create a user of both magic and esper powers. The original Ellis was Cromwell’s friend and an esper and had died protecting Cromwell when their facility was destroyed. This is what makes Cromwell feel that the science and magic sides should stay segregated, and Touma realizes that Cromwell would be satisfied with a situation where a war is merely...

Introducing herself as Kanzaki Kaori, the girl with the sword doesn’t want to reveal her magic name if she doesn’t have to. She claims to want to take Index into custody, but Touma refuses, so Kaori demonstrates her sword skill by cutting the blade off a wind turbine that’s a long distance away. She claims that her Nanasen ability allows her to kill seven times in an instant and that it’s a guaranteed kill. Right as Touma is thinking about using his right hand, Kaori reveals that she knows about it from Stiyl. Touma, however, still tries to charge at her and attack with it. She keeps...

When Touma questions why Index came back, the red-haired mage suggests that she might have forgotten something like her hood. The mage claims that it wasn’t him who hurt Index and that someone named Kanzaki didn’t intend for this to get bloody, but Touma is nevertheless still angry. All the mage cares about though is recovering Index – specifically, the 103,000 magic volumes inside of her mind. He explains that Index has the ability to permanently memorize whatever she reads, and since those books are dangerous, he’s here to protect her before she can be kidnapped by someone who can...

With time running out, Accelerator isn’t able to find Last Order at the restaurant where he left her. The waitress informs him that a guy in a white coat took her, so he calls Yoshikawa to figure out what to do. She informs him that Amai should still be in the city, so Accelerator goes to track him down. He finds Amai in his car with Last Order in a deserted area, and when Amai tries to run him over, Accelerator easily stops the car. He knocks Amai out as Amai tries to exit the car, and after examining Last Order, he tells Yoshikawa over the phone about the equipment hooked up to her that’s...

Even for To Aru Majutsu no Index, the number of punches to the face was off the charts in this arc’s conclusion. Accelerator was on the receiving end for a good chuck of them when his battery died, so there was no shortage of his face getting smashed in. Touma on the other hand got the job done with a single right once the opportunity presented itself, much like he always does. Good ‘ol Imagine Breaker. It’s so reliable it’s worth laughing over.

Amazingly, Touma’s preaching felt so warranted this time because Vento’s grudge against science is so messed up. It’s pretty hard to sympathize...
