I wrote the fifth chapter a few months ago, but when I looked at it, I wrinkled my nose and deleted it...
Everyone got back from lunch, and filed into their cells. An old man rolled around with a library cart. "Book?" I walked to the bars. I spotted the Odyssey by Homer.
"Uhh, the Odyssey," I requested. Before handing it to me, he put a letter in it.
"For Jahel," he whispered, then wheeled to James' cell. I noticed his hand grab a book, while I found the place I left off when I was reading at home.
"Why weren't you at lunch today?" Janes asked.
"Wasn't at breakfast either, if you didn't notice. I attacked a guard," I replied, and found my place. James laughed. "I'm serious, ask your inmate. I believe he witnessed it."
I slowly worked my way over to a napping NJVA18, making sure I wasn't noticed. I slipped the note under her pillow.
"How's your day going?" asked the guard, who was obviously trying to break me like a puppy who wasn't house trained. I dog eared the page and snapped the book shut.
