Even when they weren't together as a couple, I still loved any Derek and Meredith scenes that I could get. I hated Addison and Finn for coming between them. Derek divorcing Addison and Meredith dumping Finn was what I lived for because Derek and Meredith were back together. I loved it when they worked on the clincial trial because they were still having scenes together. The episode "Freedom" really made sense for me because the end of the episode was when they got back together.
Derek: Meredith....
Meredith: Stupid, corny, idiotic, I can't believe I did this. Stupid, loser, son of a ... I could be at home instead of ... oh
Derek: Meredith....
Meredith: Where have you been?! I've been waiting and waiting for you! And I did this stupid, embarrassing, humiliating, corny thing. And I was just gonna tell you that, this over here is our kitchen and this is our living room, and over there that's the room our kids could play. I had this whole thing about I was gonna build us a house, but I don't build houses because I'm a surgeon. And now I'm here feeling like a lame ass loser. I got all whole and healed and you don't show up. And now it's all ruined because you took so long to come home! And I couldn't even find that bottle of champagne ... (Derek holds up the bottle and smiles)
Derek: It's the kitchen? Living room - a little small. The view's much better from here. And that's where the kids are going to play? Where's our bedroom?
Meredith: I'm still mad at you and I don't know if I trust you, I wanna trust you, but I don't know if I do. So I'm just gonna try, I'm gonna try and trust you. Because I believe that, we can be extraordinary together. rather than ordinary apart and I wanna be ... (he kisses her)
Derek: I have to go.
Meredith: What?
Derek: In order to kiss you the way I wanna kiss you and in order to do more than kiss you I need to speak to Rose. I want my conscience clear so I can do more than kiss you. Stay here, don't move, wait for me.
In addtion to this episode, I also liked the moment where Derek confessed to Meredith he was in love with her.
Derek: I wanted to come over here this morning to tell you... But now all I want to tell you is that I'm in love with you. I've been in love with you forever. And now you have a choice to make. I want you to take all the time you need, I don't want to rush you, but I love you. Just take your time. Because when I had to make a choice... I chose wrong.
I also loved to the part where Derek answered Meredith's question about when the last time they kissed was.
Derek: I wanted to come over here this morning to tell you... But now all I want to tell you is that I'm in love with you. I've been in love with you forever. And now you have a choice to make. I also loved the part where Derek answered Meredith's question about their last kiss.
MEREDITH: "I can't, I can't remember our last kiss. All I could think about was 'I'm going to die today' and I can't remember our last kiss. Which is pathetic but the last time we were together and happy... I want to be able remember that. And I can't, Derek. I can't remember."
DEREK: "I'm glad you didn't die today."
[pause]
DEREK: "It was a Thursday morning, you were wearing that ratty little Dartmouth t-shirt you look so good in. The one with the hole at the back of the neck. You'd just washed you hair and smelled like some kind of... flower. I was running late for surgery, you said you were going to see me later, and you lean to me, put your hand on my chest and you kissed me. Soft. It was quick. Kind of like a habit. You know, like we'd do it everyday for the rest of our lives. Then you went back reading the newspaper and I went to work. That was the last time we kissed."
Derek and Meredith are my favorite couple because even though they've been through hell, they find a way back to each other such as Derek calling her a whore and ending up with them having sex in the exam room at prom. I thought that angry and jealous Derek was sexy.
MEREDITH: "Hey..."
DEREK: "How's my dog?"
MEREDITH: "Much better. Finn is running tests-"
DEREK: "Good. Good."
MEREDITH: "Our dog."
DEREK: "What?"
MEREDITH: "Our dog. You said my dog. He's our dog."
DEREK: "Yeah, whatever."
MEREDITH: "Are you mad at me or something?"
DEREK: [walks away] "Now's not the time."
DEREK: "How the hell did you let a patient get that far from your watch?"
MEREDITH: "I turned my back for a second."
DEREK: "He was in the damn gallery!"
MEREDITH: "He's a surgical intern at Mercy West..."
DEREK: "I don't care if he's the Surgeon General. In this hospital he's patient with a head injury who needs a CT. In this hospital he's a scared guy who doesn't need to see the mass of internal injuries of the woman he ran into with his car! This is your fault! You had him and you lost him! You've got to take responsibility for your actions, for once in your life!" [walks away]
MEMEREDITH: "I never should have told you about George."
DEREK: "No, its fine. I'm glad I know about him, and the vet. You really get around."
MEREDITH: "What did you just say to me?"
DEREK: "It's unforgivable."
MEREDITH: "I don't remember ever asking you to forgive me."
DEREK: "So, was the knitting a phase? Who's next? Alex? I hear he likes to sleep around too. You two have that in common."
MEREDITH: "Derek!"
MEREDITH: "You don't get to call me a whore. When I met you, I thought I had found the person that I was going to spend the rest of my life with. I was done! All the boys and all the bars and all the obvious daddy issues, who cares? I was done. You left me. You chose Addison. I'm all glued back together now. I make no apologies for how I chose to repair what you broke. You don't get to call me a whore."
DEREK: "This thing with us is finished. It's over."
MEREDITH: "Finally."
DEREK: "Yeah, it's done."
MEREDITH: "It is done."
DEREK: "Meredith."
MEREDITH: "Leave me alone."
DEREK: "Meredith-"
MEREDITH: "Just leave me alone!"
DEREK: "I just want to make sure you're alright."
MEREDITH: "No! I'm not alright? Okay? Are you satisfied? I'm not alright. Because you have a wife, and you call me a whore, and our dog died, and now you're looking at me again. Stop looking at me."
DEREK: "I'm not looking at you. I am not looking at you."
MEREDITH: "You are looking at me. And you watch me. And Finn has plans. I like Finn. He's perfect for me, and I'm really trying here to be happy, and I feel like I can't breathe. I can't breathe with you looking at me like that, so just stop!"
DEREK: "You think I want to look at you? That I wouldn't rather be looking at my wife? I'm married. I have responsibilities. She doesn't drive me crazy. She doesn't make it impossible for me to feel normal. She doesn't make me sick to my stomach thinking about my veternarian touching her with his hands. Man, I would give anything to not be looking at you!"
DEREK: "What does this mean?"
MEREDITH: "Uh, I had panties on. Black ones. Do you see them?"
DEREK: "What does this mean?"
MEREDITH: "Fix your tie."
DEREK: "Meredith, what does this mean!?"
Their engagement and the moment leading up to it was perfect.
Richard: Wait. Um. Wait. No. You can't take that one.
Meredith: Why not?
Richard: I said don't take it.
Meredith: I will take the elevator I want to take.
Derek: Hey. Come on in. This is a CT of Katie Bryce. 16 year old female, subarachnoid aneurysm.
Meredith: From a fall during rhythmic gymnastics. I remember.
Derek: I remember, it was the first surgery we ever scrubbed in together on. Our first save. Right here is a cerebral cyst. Tough save, but we did it. I kissed you in the stairwell after the surgery. And this right here is where Dr Bailey kicked you out of the surgery, because she caught us in your driveway, in my car. And right here, this is a seven hour craniotomy. You held the clamp the entire time, never flinched. That's when I knew you were gonna be an incredible surgeon. Beth Monroe, made our clinical trial a success by surviving. You talked me into putting her under. That's when I knew I needed you. And this is today, post op head CT of Izzie Stevens. You see that? Right there. Tumor free. Because of you. You got me into the OR. If there's a crisis, you don't freeze, you move forward. You get the rest of us to move forward. Because you've seen worse. You've survived worse, and you know we'll survive too. You say you're all dark and twisty. It's not a flaw, it's a strength. It makes you who you are. I'm not gonna get down on one knee, I'm not gonna ask a question. I love you Meredith Grey, and I wanna spend the rest of my life, with you.
Meredith: And I wanna spend the rest of my life with you.
I love them because no matter what happens, they always find a way to be together no matter what.
