Eric added to The Sun newspaper: "Our show ended too early. We were battered about by ABC and even if the fans wanted another series they couldn't have got it because we had been raked over the coals so much by the network. We put our best feet forward and felt neglected. Everyone was upset with them for cancelling 'Ugly Betty'."

Wilhemlmina has some of the best quotes ever!
--------------------------------------------------

Wilhelmina [to Bradford]: "I thought I smelled jewelry."

Fabia: "You must come to the ceremony. I won't be able to get married without my something old."
Wilhelmina: "Oh, with the veins in your legs, you already have your something blue."

Marc: Little glitch. Teeny, tiny, Cindy Crawford mole-sized problem. It looks like St. Patrick's Cathedral is already booked for June 16.
Wilhelmina: What?!
Marc: What do you get from St. Patrick's? Bad incense, and a bunch of guilty men in dresses.
Wilhelmina: Fabia?! That little Euro-Wench is getting married?!
Marc: And she got Elton John to sing for the wedding. He's re-written "Candle In the Wind" just for her.
Wilhelmina: What?! He was re-writing "Candle in the Wind" for me!
Marc: Ugh, give that Queen twenty-bucks and she'll re-write it for anybody.
Wilhelmina: Get Fabia over here. Wedding Summit '07 is on!

Plot
Betty Suarez is a courageous, good-hearted, and slightly naive girl from Queens, New York who is sorely lacking in fashion sense. She is abruptly thrust into a different world when she lands a job at Mode, a trendy high fashion magazine based in Manhattan that is part of the publishing empire of the wealthy Bradford Meade. Bradford's son Daniel has just been installed as Editor-in-Chief of Mode following the death of Fey Sommers (Bradford's longtime mistress). Bradford hires the inexperienced Betty as his womanizing son's newest personal assistant to curb Daniel's habit of sleeping with his assistants. As time goes by, Betty and Daniel become friends and help...

Hi Detty shippers!!

Here's Jenny's 1st story that I convinced her to let me post on here with the link to the fanfiction.net website for the rest. The story is innovative, fun & sweet!! Have a look, the story takes place circa 4.12 Blackout!

This is how I'd write the next episode.

Betty walked through mode towards Daniels office. She was so excited, today was a good day. First she finds out she'll be helping Daniel interview her favorite actor, then moments later she finds out her blog won a bloggy. Storming through Daniels door without knocking, she runs to his desk where he's seated.

“Daniel, you wont believe it” Betty practically yelled.

Daniel looked up obviously shocked out of his day dream.

“Betty, what happened? You scared the shit out of me.” Betty giggles

“ I won a bloggy!”

Confused Daniel asks “ A what?”

Betty gives him am odd look “ A bloggy, Daniel. It's an award, and my blog won. Can you believe it? I haven't even been writing it that long.” at this point Betty was jumping up and down. Daniel gave her a pensive...

Ugly is in is the last Ugly Betty fansite to dissapear online for good, which dissapointed many fans of the show, as they enquire about other places to find stuff on the show. Therefore, I thought I would put together a list of 10 alternative websites and fansites, in no ascending order that are worth checking out.

*NB: If there is a website that isn't mentioned on the list, then please feel free to share and add it on here and to let every other fan know about it :).

The Ugly Betty club on Fanpop- My favourite overall. The amount of fans it has is just staggering and it keeps on growing each month. You can post photos, links, articles, fan art, picks etc. The ease of doing all of this is what makes it so interesting and garners so many other fans. Design is simple though the background could do with some added colour. Other than that, I love it!

Ugly Betty News- website where writer Tom keeps us informed and up-to-date with the latest goings on, during and behind the scenes at Mode. Full of fan opinions and like-minded and intelligent fans, who wish to discuss the show, UB news is well worth visiting.

Marc: When did catwalk become fatwalk?

Amanda: Keep working- a little more overtime and you can switch to invisalines.

Amanda: I can bearly leave the house with an out-of-season handbag and you show up on a daily basis looking like a yard sale and you don't care. Its like you were genetically engineered without the fear gene.

"Ok, Betty. What's wrong?" Daniel asked. Betty had come to visit him for what she had described as a 'passing by'. However, Daniel could easily see through Betty's pretenses. Especially as she was pacing to and fro in front of his desk.
Betty stopped walking in continous lines, and stared at Daniel, wearing an innocent expression.
"Nothing's wrong. Why would anything be wrong? I've got a job that I love, a great family who haven't got any problems - yet, anyway." She was so stressed that her words came out hurried and high - pitched. Daniel raised his eyebrows; inclined his head. He was waiting for her to continue, and Betty quickly realised that.
"Right, so maybe there is something wrong," Betty admitted, sighing heavily.
"What is it?" Daniel asked, evidently curious, but also slightly worried. Betty always put herself under too much strain, weighing other people's problems on her shoulders as well as her own. It can't be good for her, Daniel thought, shaking his head slightly.

This week concluded link’s run on Thursday nights with bringing out loads of stars from thelink finale and a whole lot of confusion with many things happening and then “unhappening” and then re-happening again but the most important is how stupid Betty can be sometimes and how much Daniel has changed since the premiere episode a few years back. The whole episode looks rather manipulative, Betty has a job! Betty doesn’t have a job. Betty is promoted! Betty isn’t promoted. Betty is in love! Betty isn’t in love, Betty’s sort of in love. The threat of Molly’s death although being slightly predictable makes people cry.

Molly doesn’t die after last week’s suspense. After she comes out of hospital whole world is infatuated with her bond with Daniel. He is no longer a male-whore but has become the Prince Charming. He gets on to the promotion of the wedding issue “The View”.

*NB: For those of you who haven't seen the third season in its entirety, I would refrain from reading this, as it might contain potential spoilers- Waiching*[b]

[b](US DVD release date: 22 September 2009)

(UK DVD release date: 7 December 2009)

Season 3 Synopsis -'The fashionable world of Ugly Betty continues to evolve in the complete third season that takes Betty to another life change as she grows up, moves into Manhattan and embraces her independence.'

With Ugly Betty there appears to be a different theme occuring in each season. Season 1 was mainly about Betty and her friendships with Daniel, Henry and Christina; Season 2 was all about Betty, Gio and Henry. Season 3 looks set to be about Betty, Marc and Amanda.

A couple of months ago before the season 3 premiere had even aired, Silvio Horta mentioned that this season was going to be all about Betty growing up. Well, to be frank, the product description at the back of the box which says '...moves to Manhattan and embraces her independence' is misleading and wrong; thus, this should be changed because Betty eventually leaves her apartment...

Texts are created for mass consumption by the producers, but the text and its ideas and storylines are disemminated, perceived and interpreted differently by us- the audience or be it consumers. This leads us onto Stuart hall's encoding/decoding model.

For Hall, the encoding/decoding model is a concept he originally devised where he explains that through the transmission of ideas and messages in the texts, Hall proposed three ways of reading and decoding texts: dominant, negotiated and oppositional. The dominant reading is where the viewer takes away that meaning from the TV show and accept what has been shown to us; the negotiated meaning is when the viewer negotiates the viewpoint or idea: in other words we tend to agree with this idea but also disagree with it because of something else. An example of this would be something like professional sports atheletes: the negotiated reading would be that they are good role models for young people and that because of their exisitence this enables them to actively take part in sport and to encourage them to keep fit and be healthy.

Synopsis: Two very different cultures collide in this sexy and stylish series about believing in yourself regardless of the odds. Experience every episode of the award-winning Series One in this sensational collection.

Based on the original Columbian telenovela, 'Yo Soy Betty La Fea', the first series of Ugly Betty is so watchable and addictive after one episode that afterwards you want to continue with the rest of the series. Just so that you can find out what happens to the characters and their predicaments.

Betty Suarez is a young Latina with red rimmed glasses, metal braces and who wears hideous clothing, who is hired by Bradford Meade as his son Daniel's personal assistant. Initially hired to look after Daniel, as well as to prevent Daniel from sleeping with her, Betty soon makes a positive impression at work and a smooth transition in a short space of time. Though she becomes a butt of Mode's jokes and having to endure constant verbal bullying by Mode's bitchiest employees- namely Marc and Amanda-, as well as deal with Wilhelmina's scheming antics, Betty navigates her way through the dark and tricky waters of Mode Magazine.

The term 'representation' is one of the many key areas in Media and Cultural studies in relation to the concept of identity and how it is formed.

Representation refers to the way people, places etc are portrayed, especially in context of the media and how they are viewed by the audience, which is us. Because they are representations, this means therefore that characters and people on TV and film are branded, shaped, dressed and shown as they are on screen by the producers. In studying these representations, we are decoding them and then drawing on a range of meanings- be it fictional or real; implicit or explicit. By viewing media representations of certain characters and people, we then decide afterwards whether these representations either challenge notions of identity and how certain social and minority groups in society behave, talk and act in real life... or whether they seek to highlight and reflect those cultures, lifestyles and trends.
Or perhaps present a much maligned and distorted idea of these characters and their situations.

When watching Ugly Betty- or be it any other show or movie, the narrative is one of the essential elements in understanding the story, in addition to which it forms the sequencing and ordering of events, as and when they happen.

The concept of narrative structure enables the likes of you and I to understand the message, ideas and situations taking place within the film or show through the ordering of those events occuring on screen. Alas, this is where meaning is also achieved. Although narrative structure and theory is not neccessarily based around semiotics- which I have touched upon during one of the previous essays- the different narrative models being cited in this essay and in the analysis of narrative in TV and film draws on the theory of semiotics and structuralism.

In narrative theory, depending on what type of media it takes the form in-; be it film, TV- , certain stories share certain conventions and features, where in which they can be told and explained in different ways. Codes and conventions are important in media texts because they help seek to address and distinguish different genres and texts. Codes is a term, where wider sets...

We read images and pictures in an attempt to decode them and make sense of what they mean to us.

Semiotics is the study of signs but also of anything which stands for 'something else'. Signs can be anything: sounds, pictures, words, objects, hand gestures for example. Semiotics, which is also known as 'semiology' has been recognised and regarded as one of the main theoretical areas within media and cultural studies. I think this is because that we realise that there is more than one way of reading a TV show, film, photo, poster. It is one thing describing what it looks like, but it is also another by relating it to wider themes and ideas, in relation to identity, society, culture, other issues and wealth to name.

The sign itself is made up of the image (signifier) and the word of the image it represents (signified); with the signifier and signified combined together they form the 'sign'. An example of this would be a signifier of a tree and the letters (signified) 'T-R-E-E'. Although this could refer to any type of tree.

NB: *this review was originally posted on the michael urie online site last year and to coincide with the UK release of season 2 on dvd. since then the final mark has changed. btw, I re-submitted this review as it appears as if the original version appears to be lost on this site and that i could not retrieve it*

Ok, here it goes: personally speaking, I didn't enjoy it as much as the first season; for a dramedy, there was too much drama and not enough comedy and humour. The Betty/Henry/Gio storyline, whilst it provided much needed interest and drama for those benry and getty 'shippers, to an extent dominated series 2, so much so that the remaining characters were sidelined and were put on the backburner in favour of the Betty/Henry/Gio romance triangle. Which I clearly felt was a detriment to the show itself. I don't mind a bit of romance here and then, but it has to be done right, in a way that it does not affect the show and the other characters by making them less important than Betty and her love interests.

Okay, I've seen this is usual here. So I say why not? I'll give it a try.

I only write Gio and Betty fanfiction. So I'll post the most generic one. One with several characters. I am open to comments of any kind. Sorry about characterization. I am really bad at that. So if my characters seem a bit OOC, bear with me, please. It's just my style.

And spanish is my first language. So there might be english grammar mistakes in here. But overall the story is not that bad, even if I say so myself.

I ventured out on this fanfiction, which is still in progress...its Betty/Connor :)

A/N: Okay so this fan fiction is a little random and I know it would never happen, but I always wanted to read a Connor/Betty fanfic and since nobody else would write it I decided to…hope you enjoy!

Funny Seeing You Here

“Mija, I just don’t feel like it is safe for you to go off to Paris by yourself, even if it is for work.” Ignacio stated still worried that she would be alone.

“Papi, you worry too much. I will be fine, and I will only be alone for the first two weeks, because that is my vacation time, but then Daniel will come when it gets closer to the show.” Betty smiled trying very much to calm down her father, though she had to admit she herself was a bit frightened.

“Why can’t Daniel go with you now?”

“Because it is my vacation, not his. And besides he wants to spend as much time with Molly as he can, and the doctors don’t want her to fly right now.” She said embracing her father with a quick hug. At that moment the cab driver honked his horn signaling his arrival at the residence.

This is a short, one-shot I wrote about Daniel/Bradford, I wasn't too happy with it, but I'll let you decide for yourself...:)

Disclaimer: Not mine, I get no money from this, purely for my entertainment.

A/N: Song is Reba McEntire. Just a short Daniel/Bradford one shot song fic.

The Greatest Man I Never Knew

Daniel sat in his apartment in the pitch black dark. He hadn’t even bothered to turn any lights on. He couldn’t face the light; or rather he didn’t want to. All he could think about was his father and his ‘son’ and even if he didn’t know for sure that Daniel was his son he knew he owed him, because if he was his son he knew how he felt.

Daniel knew what it was like to grow up with an ‘absent’ father, the pain it causes, the questions it leaves permanently unanswered, and the never-ending quest for approval you feel certain that no matter how hard you try you can never get. Daniel was all too familiar with each of these emotions and he had always promised himself that he would NEVER let his son feel any of them.

I wrote this a while ago and was thinking if anybody wanted to read it they could :)

Disclaimer: Totally one hundred percent NOT mine…never have been…sadly never will be.

A/N: Hope you all really enjoy this story. Sorry it’s so late coming but school has been crazy lately and I have been out of town anyway…I don’t know how it will end up yet, but I am thinking it will be Betty & Becks all the way…with Daniel friendship…kind of different for me but hey its worth a try.

Two for the Price of One

Betty was sitting at her house on a Friday night watching television and eating popcorn when her phone rang. Ten bucks says it’s Daniel, she thought to herself laughing. If anyone had actually been around to take that bet it was a bet Betty would definitely have won.

“Hello.” Betty said only half paying attention, after all what could be so important at 12:00 on a Friday night.

“Is this Betty Suarez?” a voice she didn’t recognize asked her.

NB: *I did NOT write this review. I just saw it on a website and thought it was not only a good account of season 2, but a lot of the comments echoed by this writer made a lot of sense. Particuarly in relation to season 3 of Ugly Betty.*

Review by Mike Long, Posted on 9/7/2008

All Ratings out of 5
Show: 3
Video: 5
Audio: 5
Extras: 2

Here's the process of making a television show: First (after the idea has been approved), one episode, called a "Pilot" is made. If the powers-that-be and a test audience like the Pilot, then a season is ordered, often 13 or 22 episodes. I've read interviews with series creators where they talk about having a multi-season plan for their show. And while that may be true, given the fickle nature of TV audiences and the fact that a show can be cancelled at any time, I believe that those who make shows take things one episode at a time. Thus, we get the "sophomore slump" with many shows. The first season is impressive, and then it's like they don't know what to do with that second one. That seems to be the case with Ugly Betty.

Here are (my) 10 reasons why Ugly Betty shouldn't be and may I add also, doesn't deserve to be cancelled in no particular order:

1) It is one of the few shows which has a worldwide fan base as big as it has already- from the US to the likes of Australia, UK, South Africa, China to name Ugly Betty's appeal is massive.

2) Despite falling ratings for season 3, and criticisms from some ex- Ugly Betty fans, most notably from the Benry and Getty quarters, it is actually a definite improvement over season 2, of which I didn't have much hope for, the longer it went on.

3)It is the only show I tune into on a regular basis; there hasn't been a show that has gripped me and appealed to me more, since Caroline in the city as I was a fan of that show beforehand

4) Two words: marc and amanda- perfectly played by michael urie and becki newton.

5) I cannot think of a better cast of actors than the ones we have on this show to play the likes of betty, daniel, marc, amanda, christina and willie than in america, eric, michael, becki, ashley and vanessa.

Disclaimer: I don't own Ugly Betty or any of the characters, but I sure wouldn't mind if someone decided to give them to me. Anyway please don't sue cause I have no money!!!!

Authors Note: Its taken me awhile to finally put to words this story. It has “magic” I reckon you would call it inside so if that isn’t what floats your boat…you get the idea. If so please read and review…it makes my day!!!

Shooting Star?!

Daniel strode out of the office building in which he worked, the same office his father had built from scratch some thirty odd years before. The fact that he was a part of that legacy had always given him a sense of pride and accomplishment but on this particular night it only made him feel lost and alone.

As a television show, Ugly Betty has been a worldwide success. From its original columbian telenovela: 'Betty Le Fea', the show has spanned various international versions of this comedy. The most well known incarnation that is televised in the Western world is the US's Ugly Betty.

But what attracts viewers and fans especially to Ugly Betty per se isn't just the humour and the drama aspects of this series but the characters, storylines and situations.

These characters, storylines, situations all deal with and explore themes and concepts relating to culture and identity.

From Marc's sexuality to Betty's attempts to fit into a society, of which at the same time she is trying to maintain her cultural and ethnic roots. And it isn't just Marc and Betty: the other characters are also somewhat (cultural) stereotypes of what people perceive as the 'norm' in society- the so called bitchy (and dumb) blonde in Amanda, ladies man Daniel who has a habit in sleeping with women; the Scot Christina, the transsexual Alexis- Daniel's sister, who used to be a guy up until he had the sex change and became a 'she'; teen Justin's (blantant and) implied homosexual...

For those of you wondering which Jack and Karen I am talking about, I am referring to none other than the catty and humourous offerings of Will and Grace's very own bitchy and campy duo in gay man, Jack- and the sarchastic overtones of Karen- both played by Sean Hayes and Megan Mullally.

Ugly Betty's answer to Jack and Karen come in the form of the flamboyant Marc St James- Wilhelmina's sidekick and Mode receptionist, Amanda Tanen. Their antics have entertained audiences in their seats and garnered a massive fanbase throughout the world.

The main difference separating the pair is the age differences between the two ships'- in real life, Megan is 50 years old and Sean is round about 38,- whereas our very own Becki Newton turned 30 just this year, and Michael Urie turned 28. Interestingly enough also, both Michael and Sean not only play camp characters in Marc St James and Jack Macfarlane, but rather they were born 10 years apart from each other (Michael was born in 1980 and Sean was born in 1970). AND Megan is 20 years OLDER than Becki. What coincidences eh?! Want further proof? Check out and compare their bios on IMDB and see the...
