Walsh made his feature film debut in "Where the Heart Is." Born in Los Angeles, Walsh spent the first 10 years of his life in Africa, India and Indonesia with his parents, who were in the United States Foreign Service. His family later settled in Annandale, Va.
He made his acting debut in high school, appearing at the Arena Stage and the Studio Theatre in Washington, D.C. Although he was an English major at the University of Virginia, he spent most of his time in the theater department, and appeared with the Heritage Repertory Company in "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "Curse of the Starving Class," "Romeo and Juliet," "Death of a Salesman" and "Our Town."
