i would also suggest The Black Dagger Brotherhood byJ.R Ward ,other than that patriautism covers it pretty well....(i haven't read house of night yet so that's why i am not saying anything about that...)
The Southern Vampire series (a.k.a The Sookie Stackhouse series).
The books are so much fun and addictive, Charlaine Harris is a terrific writer who really defines her characters and unlike the Twilight series, actually gives them a plot to work with. Also Charlaine Harris wrote her first book in the series long before Stephenie Meyer wrote her first (you can tell their is a little inspiration taken from Mrs. Harris).
As for a tv show, then you gotta watch the show based on the books above: HBO'S 'True Blood'. Alan Balls adaptation is brought to life so brilliantly with stars Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Alexander Skarsgard (see my icon), truely make the show magic.

but the shows i find have little to do with the books! both cool though! just like vampire diaries the series and the books are different stories! also i don't like what they did with elena and stephan, its like they tries to copy twilight's bella and her guy. not cool! elena is BLOND for god's sake!
For TV series, definitely try Buffy the Vampire Slayer! It's got action, humor, romance, fantastic actors- and if you like it, try it's spin-off, Angel.
I personally liked the Twilight series, but not the movie. The Vampire Diaries is a book series coming to tv, I haven't read it, but the preview looks good. Another series isn't a vampire one particularly, but it does have them entangled in a couple books; The Women of the Otherworld series.
TV:
Vampire Knight (jap anime can b seen on the interview)
Moon Light
True Blood
Book:
Morgan Ville Vampires (best damn vamp books ever)
...Thats the best book i can think of. i didn't like Twilight that much. and i am borde with house of night. the others r mangas

vampire knight is brilliant! and iv read some of the morgan ville vampires series and have enjoyed them ^w^
i would say vampire academy bcuz its a terrific book i havent seen the series but i think its gonna b gud 2 but i think that vampire academy is wayyyyy better than twilight and im a HUGE fan of twilight
I gave examples for good ones. I also told her what she would like if she liked certain things. You decided to come on here and start an arguement, not me.
As far as series, I'm looooving True Blood and as for books, the Sookis Stackhouse books by Charlainne Harris and anything by Laurell K. Hamilton is great!
Yea i read vamoire kisses and it is better then twilight if they dont start coming out with other vampire movies then im going to complain to somone cause there are totally better vamoire books than twilight that can become movies
If you're into the whole "seductive-vampire-falls-in-love-with-human" or "all-vampires-are-good-for-is-sexy-boyfriend/girlfriend" stuff, it's EVERYWHERE!!! But if you're like me, and you liked vampires BEFORE they became cool, the "Cirque Du Freak" is an awesome series about a young boy who is blackmailed into becoming a vampire, learns the vampiric ways, and eventually fights in the War of Scars-a war between the vampires and the vampaneze (another vampire-like clan). And, of course, there's the classics: "Dracula", "Interview With A Vampire", " TheVampire Lestat", you know, the books where vampires are acting like vampires?

Thank you! I tell people the exact same thing. I became a fan of vampires before everyone totally contaminated it with the goopy, teenybopper stuff. Not that I don't understand why it wouldn't appeal to some people in the right situations, but I'm tired of it already! There's too much romanticizing. One thing: You shouldn't forget "'Salem's Lot". Talk about vampires acting like vampires.
Here are some that I've read. Some I've REALLY liked and some were just "ok". I put an *** by the ones I really love.
Vampire Books
Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer (more teen genre)
House of Night Series by the Cast’s (teen genre…I think the stories move slow, maybe it’s just me)
The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series by J.R. Ward (VERY adult…violent and sexy, but GREAT!)***
Fallen Angels Series by J.R. Ward (also VERY adult, only one book out so far)***
Novels of the Darkyn by Lynn Viehl (also very adult…she’s starting a new series called “The Kyndred”)***
The Argeneau Vampire Series by Lynsay Sands (also very sexy, but GREAT!)***
Immortals After Dark Series by Kresley Cole (Adult series)***
Midnight Breed Series by Lara Adrian (also very adult)***
Wings of the Night Series by Maggie Shayne***
Love at Stake Series by Kerrelyn Sparks***
The Historian (don't remember the author)
Dracula by Bram Stoker (gotta love the original)***
Lords of the Underworld Series by Gena Showalter (not really vampire but very good and based on Ancient Greek immortal warriors...also adult)***

Thanks so much for mentioning my books, Dayas_mom! I'm glad you're enjoying them! :)
Books: Cirque Du Freak, The Chronicles Of Vladimir Tod, i guess twilight could count, but it sucks!
Shows: Buffy the vampire slayer, true blood,
Movies: Let me in, Cirque Du Freak (also known as "The Vampires Assistant")
Sunshine is a good book, and if you are a teenage girl try Twilight. If you are not, don't go there. If you are able to handle mature content, go with True Blood (also i believe they have a series of books it's based on? If you are like 14 or younger, go with Young Dracula. But eventually i guess your best bet is Buffy The Vampire Slayer, if you like things with a sense of humor, but lots of drama, action and vampires. It's an amazing show.

yes yes yes yes i LOOOOOOOVE the hon series!!!!! VERY GOOD!
DEFINATELY not me!!!! no effence 2 u 4 liking them but really vampires are supposed to be scary!!!!!!! not some spark-obseessed sissys!!!!!! i don't count twilight as vampires. its actually really insulting to the REAL vampires!!!!!!!
The Sookie Stackhouse Novels are really really good books. And the books are based on the really really good show True Blood.(Channel 400 on HBO on Sundays at 9pm)
dude i agree with u EXSEPT ABOUT TWILIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!! VAMPIRES R SUPPOSED TO BE COOL AND DIE IN THE SUN NOT SPARKLE!!!!!! i think calling twilight being about vampires is insulting. but no effence 2 u 4 liking them....i guess.
Vampire the Masquerade has a series of clan novels which are excellent, and you don't need to know the game to enjoy them, The Diaries of the Family Dracul were great, the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series is fun (it also spawned a comic series),and i'm personally a huge fan of the Vampire Hunter D novels, there is also a manga for it.
I can think of a billion. For starters the Sookie Stackhouse novels are incredible (They inspired the HBO series TRUEblood. Then there are the House of Night books. There are only 5 out now but there will be 9. Then there is the Vampire Academy series. The fourth one of those comes out this month. Then OBVIOUSLY the twilight books (please tell me you have already read those).
Buffy! Filled with hot vamps (spike/Angel) and with an added touch of humour. :) i luv twilight saga books and house of night is gd, but buffy is fantstic ! So is there spinoff Angel.
You'll probably get this anserw a lot, but Twilight is a great book series so you should try to get your hands on a copy and read it.And the movies that are coming to theaters also look promising.
I would suggest my graphic novel, Dusk. More info below.
