Chapter 19

In a matter of minutes, Dean pulled his shiny 67’ impala into the gravel driveway of the house they held up at. Then he and Sam bolted out of their doors armed with guns and no idea of what they were up against. The only things they cared about were the lives of Adam, Kay and Sarah, people they left behind without a rash thought. If only they had considered their plan more thoroughly maybe the two young hunters wouldn’t be in this predicament.

Was it Cas who set them up? After two years of friendship and loyalty was this what it finally came down to? Dean didn’t want to wait around to find out as his foot lodged heavily through the front door of the house. The power appeared to be cut leaving both brothers standing in a thick atmosphere of pitch black darkness.

“Adam!” Dean shouted irrationally, the shotgun caressing against his firm shoulder as he secured what appeared to be a deserted living room. “Kay!”

Chapter 18

(warning this chapter contains frightening scenes and scenes of violence)

Adam had been pacing the house for the past five minutes, once in a while pausing to sneak a peek out the window in case of unnatural intruders. The only things he kept close were his revolver secure in the waistline of his jeans and the cell phone that Sam had given to him earlier that day for emergencies. He had to give his brothers credit for covering all bases while assuming their little venture out to Clifton Ridge, especially since they’d reluctantly put Adam in charge of keeping everyone safe back at the house.

What seemed weird was not hearing from Michael ever since his undead encounter at that gas station. As far as the teenager knew the Archangel was out of commission…at least until the next threat emerged. Adam even wondered if he should go upstairs and check on Sarah and Kay, but instead thought his position down at the front entrance might suit everyone better. He was however bored as hell and thought jumping in the shower at least for a minute wouldn’t bother anyone…or oppose any consequences.

Chapter 17

(warning the following contains scenes of course language)

“So you want us to ride out on a suicidal mission in the middle of the night,” Dean began cynically at his brother Sam, “Drive to some deserted town that could be infested with a bunch of thousands of bloodthirsty stenches and rescue an unknown group of people who for all we know could be dead or worse…could be demons?”

“Dean, I don’t know but the guy on the other end sounded pretty convincing to me.” Sam confirmed pacing the living room floor after his brother while Adam and the girls settled on the couches puzzling over the bazaar circumstances. “He said it was just him and his family trapped in a convenient store with two officers from the Sherriff’s department down in Clifton Ridge. Maybe…we should check it out.”

Dean’s glare pierced Sam like a knife, giving him the-are-you crazy expression followed by a hand motion of an explosion over his head.

Chapter 16

(Warning some scenes may be too explicit and contains course language)

Sam Winchester had been busily rummaging in the basement with Sarah Blake, looking for any signs of weapons or tools they could use in case of a shortage. Bullets for all of the Winchesters’ guns were nearly scarce thanks to their run in with a zombified crowd of hungry patients and staff back at Little Falls hospital. In a time like this it’s not good to be packing minimal heat, especially when it was the only thing that could keep you alive. Usually Sam and his brother were better equipped for any battle, storing all the weapons they needed whenever they embarked on a new hunt but this time was different….they were running with a small group of survivors.

Sam was optimistic when he found a radio hiding behind a cluster of boxes. He pulled it out and started fumbling with the knobs checking to see if it was still intact. For a second the young hunter was hoping to pick up on some voices, which would indicate more survivors during the devastation. But all he heard was static. As Sarah planted herself against his chest he looked back at the wavering...

Chapter 15

(Warning the following contains scenes of course language)

“Alright, you care to run that by us again hotshot?” Dean insisted, pacing around the kitchen table that Sam, Sarah and Adam had been sitting around for the last twenty minutes while eating breakfast. Kay was still resting upstairs as it was only quarter to eight in the morning, besides her nightmares had been keeping her up most of the night. “You got angel mojo inside you now?”

Adam leaned back in his chair, soaking in the tension. For some reason he seemed to be enjoying the idea of being the center of a mystery. “Not exactly, since Michael and I are…kinda stuck together now…it means I sorta share a little of his power. But I can’t use too much otherwise the guy’ll probably short-circuit.”

“And that’s how you found us?” Sam impatiently added. “And how you escaped that gas-station you were at?”

“Yah you should’ve seen me,” Adam chuckled, pointing his fingers like a gun. “I totally smoked all those dead bastards without even breaking a sweat.” Then he smirked crossing his arms behind his head. “What...

Chapter 14

Opening his eyes for the second time, he heard something behind the door. It sounded like a shuffle of feet slowly gliding heavily across the hard floor, feet clumsily doting through a cluttered area. They had followed him inside the shop where his sadistic heavenly alter ego decided hold up for a recharge, though the nineteen yr old ex-med student from Minnesota couldn’t figure out why.

Hiding in a small bathroom wasn’t exactly a smart idea, considering more of those things to catch on to the scent of blood from the wound on his arm, where Pestilence had injured him back at the hospital. Luckily having an angel inside you renders your body slightly indestructible.

Reaching his hand over the sink, Adam Milligan grabbed the head of the tap and lifted himself of the floor, pulse racing a mile a minute. What a way to be trapped with limited bullets in his handgun, no cell phone and a powerful being out of commission. The only thing he could rely on at this point was his own instincts and smarts to get him out of the tight situation.

Chapter 13

(this chapter contains a scene of violence)

It was just after seven in the morning when Dean decided to pull the impala to a nearby gas station off on the highway. The place looked deserted as far as the brothers could tell which was perfect considering they’d planned on looting the place for food and fuel. Sarah and Kay awoke to the growling noise of their stomachs, neither of them had eaten anything since yesterday morning and they were too exhausted from hunger to continue any further. Before the girls could step out the car and stretch their legs, Sam and Dean took it upon themselves to secure the area and make sure there were no zombies around.

The windows of the station had been shattered, phone hanging off the hook in the booth while inside chip bags and beverages were scattered about the floor. Sam checked the counter when he couldn’t see anyone in the back; the radio had been left blaring behind the register. The endless reports of brutal attacks expanding nationwide compelled the atmosphere.

Chapter 12

(Warning: this chapter contains scenes of violence and course language)

“You’ve…got me!” Sam coughed, hopelessly glancing down at the girl passed out next to him. “J-Just let her go, please!”

“That’s very touching…but frankly this isn’t about her, Sam.” answered the mucus looking doctor, circling the hunter and his unconscious friend. “As I’ve told you…this is about something much, much bigger. You, Dean, your friend there, and even me…we’re all just chess pieces in what’s about to come forth.”

Sam’s eyes were glazing from the pain inside his stomach. He groaned, trying to push himself up using the weakened strength in his arms. “What are you…talking about?”

“Oh common, you didn’t really think I planned out this whole thing, did you?” Pestilence taunted. “No, you’re too smart to believe I’d be capable of running the whole apocalyptic show here. This moment has been written in the ancient stone… everything about this day was prophesized before Christ! I’m just one of the key points; this virus was just part of a carefully designed...

Chapter 11

(Warning: This chapter contains scenes of brutal violence and course langauge)

Sam dodged himself around a stretcher, avoiding two vicious infected victims. One looked as though she might have been a visiting mother in a paisley summer dress, the purse still clinging to her boney shoulder. The second victim was surgeon in blue scrubs covered in blood and mucus from the open wound in his chest, though the mask in front of his face could hardly prevent the snapping of his jaws. Their bloodthirsty shrieks beckoned Sam, eyes a deathly glazed white.

Before the surgeon had time to jump on top of the stretcher and launch himself at the young hunter’s throat, the back of his skull erupted all over the thin sheets as the bullet exited out of the zombie’s brain. The visiting mother saw opportunity to crouch below and spring up behind her prey, but Sam’s quick reflexes countered the attack as he jabbed a knife under the soft layer of her neck, cutting fully into her head spraying blood and residue from the severed arteries. Once both infected victims were taken down, Sam carefully stumbled over the lifeless bodies extending his...

Chapter 10

(Warning: this chapter contains scenes of violence and course language)

Sam and Dean hurried through the back entrance, duffels filled with equipment slung over their backs, of the hospital and sealing it shut behind them in case anything tried to escape. As far as they were concerned the only people leaving this place alive were the two young women they came for, namely Kay Forster the empathic mechanic.

While Dean pumped his shotgun, securing the area, Sam was busy reloading his magnum after taking out 5 undead cannibals on the stairs. Another inch closer to those teeth and Dean would have been zombie chow if it hadn’t been for his brother’s quick reflexes.

So far they’d come across all sorts of infected victims from doctors, nurses to even former patients with the I.Vs still stuck to their arms. The Winchesters hadn’t even counted on finding any other staff survivors from the litter of massacred corpses covering the floors and hallways.

Chapter 9

(This chapter continues after Sam and Dean had picked up Adam from the middle of the road and is heading back in the city. The following also contains course language)

“How the hell do you know about Kay Forster?” Dean stressed at his teenage brother in the backseat, watching the traffic ahead of them, “Or what I really wanna know is…what the hell does Michael want with her?”

“Well jeez, if I really knew anything about that would I be sitting here wondering that myself?” Adam scolded his older brother at the stirring wheel, sulking against his seat. Just a few hours ago he woke up laying butt naked in the middle of the highway until Sam and Dean came scurrying to his aid. The only fragments of his memory involving Michael were when he was given explicit instructions to track down some girl with his brothers, but what confused him was what he was going to do when he found this girl. “How do you guys know her anyway?”

“We met her a couple days ago working a job,” Sam replied, tapping his fingers by the window and glancing to see if Adam was still conscious. Learning that he was somehow sharing...

Chapter 8

(warning: this part contains scenes of violence)

Kay and Sarah sat back intently as the Winchesters pondered a solution to their dilemma. From the distracted looks on their faces they’d been struggling to decide if leaving the girls alone in a hospital unprotected, especially when one of them had uncontrollable supernatural abilities, was a smart move on their part. Dean knew it just like Sam that either way they had to leave, especially when there were only so many hours in to visit in a day. But Adam was out there…and alone. For all they knew he could be hurt or worse…

“I just don’t think the two of us leaving… is a smart idea Sam,” the older Winchester commented vaguely, brushing his fingers against the short crop of his hair. “Especially since Kay could have an attack at any time. I don’t like it…. What if we took them with us?”

“Dean, we can’t just hijack a patient out of this hospital,” Sam imputed brightly, glancing briefly at Sarah. “It wouldn’t look right and besides according to Kay’s medical file she’d been declared dangerously suicidal, doctors will be watching her around...

Chapter 7

(big lovers quorl between Sam and Sarah)

“She’s a what?” Sarah asked excitedly, leaning over her cup of coffee, sitting in the chair uneasily next to Kay’s bed.

Sam sighed, collecting himself. It had been a long day already, from Castiel suddenly appearing with a possible secret agenda, to learning about the girl in question. Kay Forster was different from most people because of her supernatural gift. She was alone in her curse and the only people who knew about her were all lingering around in her room…including Sarah.

“Kay is an empath.” Sam had repeated the second time, running his fingers through his thick dark hair. “That means she can absorb the feelings and emotions of everyone in this hospital…possibly farther than here.”

Sarah glared at the tall yet dashing young man. “Uh ha and your friend over there is an angel.” She added uncertainly pointing over at Castiel next to the window with closed blinds.

Chapter 6

Bewildered of the new twist of events, Sam looked at Dean, who took the opportunity to Q & A their doe-eyed trench-coated angel.

“Ah, Cas you wanna run that by us again?” Dean retorted, pinching his temple; almost as if he had a headache coming.

Castiel tilted his head sideways, lifting his gentle firm eyes to each brother. Then he caressed his hand on the bed poll. “Kay is an empath, a human with the capacity to share another person’s feelings and emotions.”

“Wow that’s original.” Dean snorted. “A babe with a bad case of the warm-fuzzies. Didn’t see that coming.”

Sam thoughtfully glanced at his brother, regarding his attention back to the angel. Obviously he was now certain of Kay Forster’s situation. The only thing that puzzled him was her connection with the other victims and why this girl’s empathic ability was taking a violent toll.

“That makes sense,” he agree, which bewildered Dean. “It’s why Kay told Sarah her feelings weren’t her own and why she was channeling other people in the area. She must’ve been channeling that girl Susie who...

Chapter 5

Sam couldn’t bring himself to sleep at all last night, it was hard enough just sneaking back into the room without being confronted by a sleep-deprived Dean. As much as it bothered him to avoid the issue at hand, his determination was completely focused on Kay Forster. There was something about her condition that just didn’t sit well with him. In his years of hunting with his brother, he’d never come across a case as puzzling as this woman’s. But a challenge was always good for the brain.

Browsing quietly on his laptop, occasionally glancing back at Dean whenever he made a snoring sound, Sam suddenly found an article that immediately struck his interest. Clicking into the file, the silence in the room broke as the mattress of the bed where the older Winchester was resting creaked nosily. Lifting his eyes up he’d realized the groggily irritable expression staring back at him, eyes partially open.

“When did you get in?” Dean mumbled, rubbing the sleep from his face.

Chapter 4

(warning this part contains scenes of violence and course language. You will also witness the beginning of Sam and Dean's personal issue with each other since Sam's return from hell)

Sam and Dean made it back to the motel they checked into, just as the sun was setting along the horizon. The air was dry yet damp very irritable, much like their failed attempt to connect with a strange young mechanic. For the first time since he’d accepted this case, cursing to himself bitterly while stepping out of the impala, Dean felt like he’d abandoned his “hunter’s code of conduct”: “Saving people, hunting things…the family business.”

But Sam had reminded him the whole time, “We can’t help her unless she wants our help.” This indication seemed to bruise Dean’s pride more than he expected. After that conversation with Kay Forster, the brothers were determined to figure out what was going on with her.

While the boys were about to settle in for the night, Sam was surfing on his laptop researching possible disturbances in the area until some enlightening info came to his attention.

Chapter 3

Sam routinely huddled over his laptop, scanning useful information about Sarah’s friend as Dean parked the impala near the lot by the auto shop. From the description of Kay that they’d been given, so far no matches. Then Sam retrieved a full profile.

“So what’s the skinny on this chic dude?” Dean asked after ten minutes of boring silence. “Does she check out or what?”

Sam began to read his notes off the screen. “Okay her name is Kayleigh Forster, twenty-four, moved to New York about two years ago and she’s a mechanic at Corbin’s Auto Garage. Kay’s parents died in a car accident when she was twelve, her mother was a teacher, her father…also a mechanic and when she was seven she began experiencing bizarre outbursts of schizophrenia.”

Dean rolled his eyes and huffed. “So what we’re dealing with is a chic-version of Norman Bates, minus the mother, motel and cheesy shower sequence. Great.”

Sam frowned at him. “Not quite, says here she’s only ever been hospitalized twice based on her sleeping patterns. Doctors couldn’t find anything out of the ordinary about her...

Chapter 2

When Sam and Dean read a sign displaying a hotdog wearing a chef’s hat and apron above bold letters entitled “Ricky’s Diner” they’d realized it was the place Sarah suggested to meet at. Though armed with his 9mm Taurus tucked away in his jacket, Dean’s stomach had betrayed him. The smell of cheese burgers sizzled in his brain, while Sam’s nerves kicked into gear. What if this was a trap? Why would she call now after so long?

Carrying his laptop slung around his shoulder, Sam and Dean entered the diner in hopes of spotting a familiar face waiting for them. Whether it was going to be another face of evil only time would tell as a young woman waved them over to a table she was sitting at. Sam immediately recognized the shimmer of her long brown hair and sultry blue eyes like rhinestones. He’d never forget a face like hers no matter how many years passed.

“Sam over here!” she smiled as they approached the booth.

Sam was stunned when she suddenly got up to embrace him. Without letting things get too awkward he returned the offer.

Chapter 1

Forty-eight hours earlier.

Dean turned the impala into a nearby gas-pump. Lately he’d been feeling restless since their latest hunt 4 weeks back after Sam mysteriously returned from Hell. The events of that year still made his skin crawl and his chest ache. Losing his brother to Lucifer was bad enough but watching him take a nose-dive right into the pit to save the world was another pain he couldn’t stand.

Sam kept a firm disclosure of his experience being possessed, thrown into the pit, and then suddenly re-established back on earth in one-piece. He didn’t want to burden his older brother with his own personal demons. Dean remembered what it was like after he woke up underground in a coffin, digging his way to the surface, then tormented with horrific thoughts of blood and flesh to the blade. So he knew how much it hurt him to refrain from sharing his brutal experiences with Sam. Sometimes it was just best not to hash things up, unless they needed to be in the open.

Dead Apocalypse

(Warning: The following contains scenes of violence and strong language)

Intro.

Little Falls Hospital, New York…

Her heart was almost beating out of her own chest, a little faster and her rib cage would explode. That was the least of Kay Forster’s worries as scrambled down the hallway wearing nothing but blue hospital scrubs and bandages around her forearms. At this point she couldn’t even feel the searing pain through the cotton over her flesh wounds, not even physical pain could drown out the horror that inflicted her mind. People were screaming in every direction from staff to patients, nothing could contain the sudden outbreak of violence.

She didn’t even have a weapon to protect herself. Smart thinking, considering how easy it was escaping that horde of 6 mindless cannibalistic people, all of them trying to bite her at once. Kay couldn’t dwell on the objectives to her situation, her only instinct was to find a place to hide in hopes that somebody would help her, maybe the police if they didn’t already have their hands full. Clinging around a corner she suddenly witnessed a...
