okay sooo this chapter is very long... I don't think the others will be quite this long but I wanted to get the descriptions of the characters out of the way, enjoy and comment!
The first thing I was aware of was the smell of a fire, I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply, inhaling my new favorite smell. I was dancing, I could feel the cool grains of sand between my toes and could tell that the sun had long since sunk below the horizon. My friends and I were singing loudly to a fast paced song our feet pounding madly against the sand.
I didn’t pay attention to any of these things though I just waited for what I knew was coming next and became almost giddy with excitement. Then I felt it, the feeling of eyes bearing into the back of my head, the most beautiful eyes I had ever seen. I turned on my heel and found what I was looking for, the two bright green orbs staring back at me. My heart flipped and my breath caught in my chest. I caught a hint of a smile on his lips and I’m pretty sure my stomach did a backflip. My heart was flying, pounding like the hooves of a racehorse. Then he was gone.
Great. Yup, that was my first thought of the school year. I rolled over and rubbed the sleep out of my eyes which proved more challenging than it should have, it sticking to the corners of my eyes. I decided it was a good idea to give up when I poked myself in the eye twice efficiently blinding myself for a couple seconds. I was suddenly aware of the noise that had brought me out of my peaceful sleep, probably the last of those for months. Beep...Beep...Beep I stretched my hand out and unplugged the alarm clock not bothering to find the off button. I rolled onto my back and savored the quiet of the house. But unfortunately it didn’t last longer than a few short seconds,
“Zoe! Get up! It’s almost time for school!” my grandmother shrieked from the other side of my door.
“Zoe! Don’t make me come in there!” she threatened.
Finally, she threw open the door and a cold breeze drifted into the room and I pulled the covers up to my chin in a poor attempt at staying warm. She marched across the room and threw open the long white curtains letting in the sunlight her little brown dog Bella scurrying along behind her in a feeble attempt at keeping up with my grandmothers dutiful stride, she was on a mission and was determined to win one way or another. The bright sunlight streaming in through my window burned my eyes and I threw my pillow over my head, I wasn’t going down without a fight. But I knew what was coming next; I felt Bella land on the bed with a soft thud and my grandmother said,
“Wake her up!” Bella jumped on me digging through the blankets until she found a hole then; she burrowed into the covers and started scratching my legs and licking my hands. I pushed her away but it was no use eventually she pushed my pillow off my head and bit my nose. I jumped out of bed my feet landing on the cold floor.
Grandma grinned triumphantly and marched off to the next room where Jasmines alarm had just gone off Bella following at her heels. I threw on a sweatshirt lying at the foot of my bed and trudged out of my room and down the hall to the stairs. Then I heard a very tired Jasmine yell,
“Bella! Get. Off. Me!” and I smiled knowing I wasn’t the only one to lose my chances of sleeping in to an elderly woman and her fluffy brown poodle.
“Ow! That’s my nose! Fine! I’ll get up! Ugh!” and Jasmine walked out of her room with very tangled hair and red nose, my grandma followed and her and Bella started knocking on Seraphine’s door ready to repeat the process.
Jasmine and I slowly made our way down the stairs and to the kitchen. Just outside the door we were greeted by the heavenly aroma of blueberry pancakes and cinnamon rolls. My stomach growled begging me to rush through the door and pile my plate high with the delicious pancakes drenched with maple syrup. Jasmine and I raced to the plates and practically started wrestling over the maple syrup. Finally, we sat down at the table and broke into a fit of giggles until we were interrupted by Seraphine and Marissa fighting over the plate of cinnamon rolls. A couple seconds later I heard Anila flying down the stairs bringing in a cool breeze with her. She grabbed a plate of pancakes and sat down with us at the table.
These where my best friends in the world Jasmine, Seraphine, Marissa, and Anila. We all usually stay at my house which, by the way is pretty big. 8 bedrooms, 6 ½ bathrooms a huge kitchen, 2 living rooms, and a basement with a bar and a room to work out in (kind of like a mini gym). The size of the house made it stick out in the small beach front community. I looked around the table at each of my friends.
Jasmine is the creative and fun one, and is amazing with plants and animals. She has deep green eyes and light brown hair with natural honey highlights. Seraphine is the fiery one, she gets in a lot of fights with others but it’s usually because she’s way overprotective of her friends but she doesn’t take crap from others about herself either, her personality definatly shows through her appearance, she has fiery red hair and gold eyes she’s the biggest of the group but not by much she’s still a little below average size but she’s built like a brick, small but strong. Marissa is the swimmer she loves water, (which is why we always make her shower last) and sometimes I’m pretty sure she can talk to fish, she has blonde hair and light blue eyes she’s the second smallest just a little taller than Anila. Anila is about the size of a pixie and is so fast sometimes it looks like she’s flying she has short jet black hair and blue eyes that look like they have tiny flecks of silver in them. I had long dark brown hair that’s almost black and electric blue eyes I’m taller than Marissa but shorter than Jasmine so just short enough that I still have to climb onto the counter to reach the top shelves of the cupboards like a little kid.
When we were all finished eating we finally started talking, we all opened our mouth at the same time but before anyone could form a word I blurted out,
” Happy Birthday Jasmine!” which was followed by a chorus of Happy Birthday’s from the other girls.
“Finally” Jasmine sighed “I though you all forgot! Or maybe I had the date wrong!”
We all started laughing when she said that. After breakfast we all headed to our rooms and started getting ready for school about an hour later we all met at the door.
Jasmine had crimped her hair and wore a new flowy green top (which was the perfect color for her eyes) a pair of dark jeans and a pair of brown flats. Marissa curled her hair and wore a teal blue V-neck with bright pink flowers on it and a bright pink tank top under it she had paired it with a light pair of shinny jeans with a few thin holes running down the leg and a new pair of boots to pull it all together . Seraphine wore dark boot cut jeans a pair of bright multi-colored Osiris shoes, and a purple shirt with a picture of Hello-Kitty on it that said- I can’t hear you! Anila was wearing a plaid blue, yellow, and pink button down shirt which she had tied off to the side with a bright blue tank under it she also wore dark jeans and a pair of “potato shoes”. I wore a flowy off the shoulder yellow striped shirt that said “yes way “on the front and “no way” on the back paired with dark wash flare jeans and black heels.
Every outfit was so different but one look at each of our right wrists would explain how close we are. We all had a thick black bracelet that had five stars blue stars on it and some weird black and white gem we could never figure out what it was, the only difference is that each girl had a different colored circle with a symbol on it, Jasmine had a green circle with a vine in it, Serphine had a red circle with a flame in it, Marissa a blue circle with waves and Anila had a grey circle with a picture of swirling winds inside of it. Mine was the only one that was different the circle on mine had two colors black and white but it contained no picture which we all thought was weird. These bracelets are how we ended up being best friends. When we met each other we didn’t like each other much actually, we didn’t like each other at all. I looked at the other girls and knew they were thinking the same thing;
“Alright class! Get into your reading groups!” Mrs. Trombley said, in that sugary sweet voice you would expect from a kindergarten teacher, “I want all of you to talk about the short story for this week and go over spelling words!” she said to the class. I grabbed my three best friends, Mandy Kaitlin and Paige and we scrambled to the corner and plopped down on the bean bag chairs our books in our hands. We all giggled and talked about silly little things not even close to the topic we were supposed to be discussing.
Just as we finally pulled out our books to start reviewing Mrs. Trombley walked up to our group and pulled me off to the side,
“I want you to go work with the group I have set up in the hall” she said as she handed me a thicker book and pointed me to the door. I took a few hesitant steps towards the door before looking back, and Mrs. Trombley smiled and nodded her head encouraging me to move forward. I looked at the bracelet on my wrist and pushed my chin up and walked towards the door with renewed confidence.
When I walked through the door I saw two girls from my class sitting on opposite sides of a circle made up of five chairs arguing about something. I walked closer and saw it was Jasmine and Seraphine. Two of the girls I disliked the most out of the class, the only thing that could make things worse was if the remaining two chairs where for Marissa and Anila the other two I disliked in the class. As I approached I figured out what they were arguing about,
“Um no. You copied Me!” Jasmine shrieked nearing hysterics. Seraphine leaned forward in her chair,
“No! You copied Me!!” she yelled her eyes seeming to glow, Jasmine clenched her jaw and leaned forward so that their noses where almost touching.
“NO! YOU. COPIED. ME!!!” she said once more. That’s when they finally noticed I was there. I noticed what they were arguing about bot girls had a thick black bracelet with 5 blue stars and a colored dot on it around her wrist, exactly like mine.
They both leaned back in their chairs and groaned,
” Not you too!” in almost perfect harmony. I sat down on the chair between them and covered my wrist with my hand we all sat like that for minutes just glaring at each other waiting for one to crack in tension thick enough to cut with a knife. Then the door opened and we all turned to see who it was hoping it was one of our friends. But of course not. Out walked Marissa and Anila and all of our eyes darted to the black bracelets on their wrists, and we all started talking at once,
“You too!”
No you are the copy-cat!”
“I got my bracelet first!”
“No I had mine the longest!” eventually I had enough,
“QUIET!” I yelled and five pairs of eyes fell on me
“Let’s just do our assignment and we can talk about this later.” We all sat back on our chairs and started to read.
Later that day as our class was lining up to go to lunch Jasmine lined up behind me,
“We’re all gonna sit together at lunch to talk about the bracelets.” Nd then she turned on her heel and stomped away not waiting for an answer.
When I got my food I stopped and looked around the lunch room, eventually I spotted the group of girls sitting in the back of the room not saying a word to each other. I walked back and found a seat between Marissa and Jasmine. As soon as I sat down Jasmine spoke,
”Okay, who’s gonna admit that they copied me?” immediately after our table broke into a chorus of yelling,
“Are you kidding me?!”
“Really?”
“We didn’t copy you”
“Why would I copy you?”
“Wow.” Eventually a Ms. Flinn walked up to our table,
“Girls is there a problem here?” we all fell silent until Marissa spoke up,
“Nope, no problem here!” she squeaked. Ms. Flinn raised her eyebrows and said,
“I would hope not” and walked away.
As soon as she turned around Jasmine opened her mouth but Anila cut her off,
“ How about we all tell where we got our bracelets and how long we’ve had them?” and we all nodded. Jasmine spoke first,
” I’ve had mine longer than I can remember, I think my dad gave it to me before he went missing.” She suddenly had an intense interest with her fingernails and began to pick at them. Then to break the silence Seraphine spoke,
“I’ve had mine since I was born, I think my parents gave me mine to before they left.” Immediately after Anila spoke,
” I’ve had mine since I was born too, I’m pretty sure my mom gave it to me before she left me with my ‘stepmonster’.”
“Oh my gosh, I’ve had mine since I was born too! My parents gave it to me, but they’re never around they’re usually out of the country, but I have no idea why.” Marissa said.Everyone turned and looked at me, I took a deep breath in,
“I’ve had mine since I was born to, but both of my parents are dead, I’ve lived with my grandma since I was 3.” We all looked at each other and put our right hand on the table.
Jasmine opened up the door and a cool wind swept through my hair, “Let’s go guys we don’t wanna be late!” she said and stepped outside.
The first thing I was aware of was the smell of a fire, I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply, inhaling my new favorite smell. Sometimes its Easier to inore the truth
to forget about everything
to sit in a closet and hide forever
Sometimes its Easier, to blame yourself
To think its your falt
To show no emotion
Sometimes It's easier to keep everything inside
to not let anyone know
to hide everything.
To me, Its easier to say something
To talk
to cry
Its easier to Feel Emotions
Anger, rage, Sadness,
but not fear
Fear is my enemey
He wants to take over my mind
Keep me locked up inside.
I'm tired of being scared
I'm tired of being locked in my own world
I'm tired of being a prisoner.
I will not be afraid,
I will not Let him Win
