Ashleigh

I see lotsa stuffs on TV. Like how big kids have to look out for the littler kids. And how kids always have mommies and daddies.

I don't have a daddy. Mommy never says why, but I think she doesn't want me to ask. So I don't.

I notice a lot more than she thinks I do. Like how whenever she sees a violet (I asked her what it was called) she smiles a little. Like it reminds her of something. I know she likes them because she has some of them framed in my room.

I also see how she always ignores everyone but the people she's talking to and me.

And she always knows when Jamie and me play spies and we're spying on her.

**************************************************

I am happy after playschool because I don't have to go there again for a whole two days. I like it there, but I like being with my mommy better. Plus Jamie is sleeping over and mommy will make us hot chocolate and pancakes like she always does on Friday and when it rains.

Some say every year a mysterious girl named Twilight comes out on the first day of October. The town called Ithaca, a.k.a, Halloween town, people think she is a vampire but it is not true. I just moved here but before I did I have heard legends about her. They say she meets girls and then they disappeared, never see them again. Hey, that is what I have heard about her. Well this is what I think, she is the Halloween spirits daughter and to come to see if people are ready for a real scare. However, if she scare’s you too much it may lead to death. I don’t even believe she even exits it’s just a story to scare little kids anyway. I’m Roxy Singer a new girl at Nightmare Haunted high school. . Everyone thinks I’m her sister or I’m her , which none of that is true to begin with. The next period was free time I was writing a new song called ” a joke to you”. After I finished the song, I went back to my locker to put my songbook away. When I closed my locker, I walked into her while putting my science book away in my bag. She dropped her book, I said,” Sorry I wasn’t looking where I was going”. She did a small giggle,” It’s alright”. “I’m R oxy Singer,...

Jake wanted his dad to be proud of him.
He knew his dad was interested in wars.
'Why?' Jake wanted to know.
'Wars shape the world,' his dad said. 'If you have a knowledge of past wars, you can better understand current politics.'
Jake didn't really know what his dad meant.
'I get it,' he said.
'Clever boy.' His dad smiled and ruffled his hair.
Jake felt six feet tall.

Jake couldn't wait to tell his dad about his new school project.
'Guess what,' he said, as soon as his dad got in the door.
His dad looked at Jake. 'What?'
'We have to do a big project at school,' Jake said. 'We have to choose a topic and then write about its history, make a story, write a poem, and do a poster. Then we have to present it all to the class.'
'Oh?' His dad was taking off his shoes in the foyer. Jake knew he should have waited till his dad was fully in the house before telling him about the project; that way he would've listened properly.

chapter 4:Robert helps me
The night was so lonely and scary. I was hoping that the sun rises fast, as I was very frightened. It finally happened after that dark and lonely night. I was very tired as I walked all night, but I was surprised when I found myself not very far from Ema’s house. I sat on my bag thinking of everything happened, but mostly thinking about the way I feel about Patrick. I was wondering what made me think that he loved me. Is it because he said I’m beautiful? Well lots of men told me that I’m beautiful but that doesn’t necessarily means that he is attracted to me. I don’t even look like Ema. She’s blond like him also with big blue eyes, and the color of her skin is lighter than mine. Even our personalities are different. She likes saddling down and I’m adventurous, she’s more classy and from a quiet rich family while my father owned a small bakery in my hometown which I ran away from. What do I think we have in common? I have small grey eyes, thick curly brown hair, and big mouth. In fact she is much more beautiful comparing with myself.

It's harder to forgive than to forget,
vice-versa, either way, it's still a threat,
time passes, memory flashes,
you're rememberin'
thoughts are coming in
no way to escape it, its a no win.
drives you insane, you try to up your game,
tell yourself they'll regret it and they'll live in shame,
just cause they dragged your name,
across every damn lane,
and you got hurt every time, yeah you still in pain,
and it ain't the same, you all tense around them,
and more anger do you gain.
Deep down it's still hurtin' you
like every wound would,
it's like a throbbing cut
that keeps your eyes tight shut,
and you sound out a yelp like someone knocked your gut.

But the secret is to drop it,
drop down your walls,
drop down and fall,
you gotta break down,
and you cannot stall,
plus there's no one to call,
its just a lonely hall,
just a lonely hall and you,

Is it possible to fall in love with someone you’ve never met
Your only knowledge stemming from information you’ve seen or read
Before I knew of his existence I would have stated no
Yet the first time I saw him my heart begged to never let go
It isn’t rational
Or logical
Though love rarely is
I can’t make my heart stop wishing that I held his
And I know it's stupid and silly to believe
In some kind of fairy tale
The perfect prince for me
But every time I see that smile
I can’t help but feel
That one day we could share
A love that is real

Tap!Tap! There was that sound again. It was so annoyingly loud, but it did drown out the screams in the next room. Tap!! Who the hell would bother to disturb me on a Monday morning? Bang!!
"What the hell!" I yell rolling of my bed and dragging myself towards the door. When i finally open it theres Michael starring at me with his blood red eyes.
"Damn Lilly!! Ive been banging at your door since freakin' six in the morning! Are you freakin' deaf or something?God!"
"Let's just say that i did hear you but ignored it. Dude, do you know how early six in the morning is? You interrupted my beauty sleep. And you know ow important that is to me." I say sarcasticly.
"Hardy Har Har. Very funny Lillian. But Rey wants to see you. He said it was urgent so if i were you id get my white ass up there. Now!"
"Gosh! Dont have a cow. Let me get dressed and all pretty up'd for the king."
"No Lilly. He said i was URGENT. And because you refused to open the door, im sure he's gonna be pissed if you keep him waiting any longer."

"Why did you leave?"

I wish I could tell him why. But seeing him again din't ease the pain. Not one bit. The agony only multiplied. All of the feelings I had suppressed were clamouring to be acknowledged.

Ashleigh peeked out from her curtain of hair, and made eye contact with him.

My heart skipped a beat. She was his child too, I knew that, but he maybe he wouldn't want anything to do with her or me. He probably hated me.

Ansking the question I had feared the most, he said, "Is this her?"

I looked at the ground.

"I can't do this again," the words hurt me to say them, but I could never force myself in his life. I had no right.

"Is it her?" he repeated, a little more harshly than before. "Tell me, Serena. I need to know. I have to know."

"Yes." A tear ran down my cheek. I buried my face in Ashleigh's hair.

I turned around, took Jamie's hand, and walked to my car.

I wonder, sometimes, if she ever thinks of me.

If she knows that I kept only one picture of her. Anything else was just too painful. In the picture, she doesn't know I am taking it until the camera flash goes off. She has been sitting at the desk in her old bedroom, and she is half-smiling.

**************************************************

I walk up to her, not breaking eye contact. Nothing existed but her.

The little girl was perched on her hip.

I trailed my fingers down her jawline. She still didn't move.

"Why did you leave?"

Chapter Two

A month later…

“Hungry?” Xavier asked.
“Starving.” I replied. Xavier went into the fridge and pulled out a tan plastic bowl and a smaller turquoise bowl. He placed the bowl of fresh fruit in front of me and the small bowl of plain yogurt. He handed me a fork.
“Enjoy.” He said. Xavier kissed me on my forehead.
“Thank you.” I said.
I began to eat when I heard a moan. Xavier looked down at his shoes.
“Um…after breakfast do you want to go for a walk?” Xavier asked.
“Xavier, what’s that sound?” I asked.
“It’s…Madison.” He choked out.
“Doing what?” I asked.
“Feeding.” He said.
“Oh.” I said feeling really stupid.
“She usually feeds at night but um…so do you want to walk around town or through the park?” Xavier asked.
“Town.” I replied. The awkward moment slowly inched past. Xavier kept his head down embarrassed. The awkwardness that filled the room at a snail’s pace inched away.

11:45 Open Door Eating

It’s the worst day in the world for a lunch date. I look like hell my light brown hair was frizzing like a poodle. Damn this humid summer, only in Texas the humidity 90% all the time. And this place is like a hut; all the hot air coming from the windows is blowing out the A/C. How is any one able to enjoy lunch when they are drinking the air?

I looked over to Ethan, who was making his way towards the table. We had been together so long in this little town. I love it to death but I think its time to move out. Greene, Texas has nothing to offer me in the medical field. Sure, the college has gotten me started but I want to be an oncologist, and its just not here. Both of my parents had cancer in there lifetime. I just wanted to help other people get through it.

“Hi Rachel, ” Ethan looked hansom, the humidity was gleaming off him. He lived here all his live, I, on the other hand, moved here my junior year in high school from San Francisco, California. It wasn’t just the way his perfectly tanned skin glistened in the...

I watched two little girls playing, watching one in particular. She reminded me painfully of Serena. The little girl pulled her friend to her feet and ran towards a woman that I recognized.

It was her. At first I was sure I was halluncinating.

Her dark hair was a little longer than I had seen it last. She was wearing a black pencil skirt and a deep blue blouse. She looked happy as the girl ran up to her.

She hugged the little girl. Their hair was the same colour.

I watched numbly as Serena looked at the child with unfathomable love as she told her something.

Serena looked up at me, pain and shock evident on her face.

Ashleigh was a little three year old, and I could see she'd be really pretty when she was older.

I wasn't sure how how, but becoming a mother just let me see clearly. About so many things. What was important and what wasn't worth it.

**************************************************

I'd picked her up from the daycare and took her to the playground, where we were supposed to meet Jamie, the little girl who was Ashleigh's best friend, and her mother, Jenna. Jenna was a single mother, like myself, but two years older. We'd become best friends as our children had.

It was Friday, and Jamie and Ashleigh were having a sleepover. They'd be camping out in my living room.

**************************************************

Not a day goes by that I don't think of Shaun. If he did what I'd asked him to.

Ashleigh and Jamie had found one another, and were dragging Jenna over to where I was standing. I bent down and hugged my little girl as she ran into my arms. She giggled and asked if she and Jamie could play here before we went home. I smiled at her, and told her it was...

I'd pretended not to know anything. I tried to get over her, but I couldn't. It was too painful. It was too difficult.

I still blamed myself. I always would.

I did like she asked, I finished college. I moved to New York after graduation to begin my career as a child psychologist. I'd graduated early. Worked harder than was necessary. Ignored everything not school-related. Had a successful job interview. Accepted into a private practice.

I was miserable.

I still had to keep living; I knew I had to. I was twenty three when I moved there.

Twenty three when I decided to watch small children play in a park in the hope of learning something new.

She never failed to surprise me. Not ever.

Nine hours.

I was exhausted after it.

Rion came into the hospital room. He took my hand, and told me softly that I had a little girl.

"Rion, there is no way I will ever be able to tell you just how thankful I am that I have you," I sighed, before I drifted into a deep black mist.

**************************************************

I held my little girl close to me. I was filled with an indescribable love for this small creature, who I had worked so hard to bring here. Who I already loved.

**************************************************

Around a year after that, I became a guardian ad litem. You didn't need to have a law degree to be one, just have a moral conscience and a heart. I loved what I did.

I was on hand to make decisions that would best benefit the person I was representing. Law related. What was in their interests.

I'd moved out pretty soon after I'd been offered that job. I got my own place again.

I'd slept for most of the flight.

Rion was there to meet me, like he promised.

He'd hugged me, told me it would be fine, that I'd be fine.

**************************************************

I took on the job of his personal assisstant, and I made a point to remember everything, from the way he liked his coffee to the way his desk needed re-organizing every few days.

I was a VERY dedicated assisstant.

He helped me with everything; he stood behind me silently as I endured my first morning sickness, and when I went into labour, which was five hours ago he dropped everything to be there for me.

I am now struggling with the most painful thing I have ever endured.

I'd gone into labour two weeks premature. I'd been rendered unable to move, gripping the marble countertop of Rion's spotless modern kitchen. I'd sunk to the ground, biting back screams. No one would hear me, and the phone was too far to reach. I'd endured this agony for five hours, so by the time Rion came home, I was too far into it for anyone to be able to help me with any form of...

A day passed. I didn't hear from her. I didn't have her new cell number, I couldn't contact her.

I started the two and a half hour long drive to where she she lived.

**************************************************

I knocked on her door. She didn't answer. I couldn't blame her. She probably hated me right now.

I tried the handle, and it swung open easily. Deathly quiet.

I suddenly saw a piece of paper stuck to her bedroom door. I saw my name. I ripped it of and read what was written.

[i]Shaun,

I'm leaving. Please, please, don't tell anyone why. Pretend you don't know. Act like I never existed.

Don't come looking for me. I want you to finish college, and move on. You deserve happiness, which I can't ever give you, no matter how much I wish I could. And don't blame yourself. It's my fault. It's entirely my fault.

I still love you, and I always will.

The early morning sun casts light into my dark room, i hate the light, just reminds me of what i wake up to every morning. The yelling from across the hallway, the creaking sound of my siblings bedroom doors opening and closing as they continue to refuse to exit their rooms.

Its not such a good life really, My family has so many issues that its hard to even sort out one without starting another,we never stop arguing, its like the essence of our life as a family. I don't particularly mind the main family issues, i guess its just that brother of mine.

He has a major issue with who i am, and what i like to be. My black clothes, my personality, my hair, whatever appeals to me, he hates. He uses the word "emo" to label me, and yells at me till the eyeliner pours.I guess that's normal for a brother, but everyday is too much.

I throw the sheets off my bed, and open the curtains, letting the light brighten my room, revealing the many posters covering my wall, bring me the horizon, escape the fate, tokio hotel, I've got it all. Another aspect that my brother hates. Forgetting about him i decided to tie up my long black hair and head off to have...

Rion

I listened as she told me that she was pregnant, and running away from Arizona. I immediately offered to let her stay with me, and at first she refused, saying she didn't want to mess my life up, that she just wanted me to keep silent. I insisted, telling her I'd pick her up when her flight landed, whether she liked it or not.

She's like a sister to me, and if she needed help, I'd come and give it.

I hung up, sighing. I had lots of space. Heck, my apartment had three extra rooms with on-suite bathroom. Why did she think it was such an issue?

My thoughts were interrupted as my timid assisstant scurried into my office. She was trembling.

"Tanya, what is it?" I wasn't in the mood for this. My most recent case was particularly stressful. How the hell do you get a man convicted of kidnapping his own two children from his ex-wife during a custody vist, then hiding out for six years in Los Angeles, out of a life sentence? Someone up there must live to make my day difficult.

I'd driven to the nearest airport, but even so, it was a three hour drive. It was mid morning when I got there, because I'd left my apartment at dawn.

I decided to leave my car in the parking lot. It wouldn't matter anymore.

They wouldn't be able to track me down. I'd upgraded my cellphone about a week ago and hadn't gotten around to telling anyone my number.

I stopped at an ATM and drew out the cost of a flight. To New York.

The line was frustratingly long, and my luck was clearly out because the next flight was in another three hours. I checked my baggage in anyway, and sat down in a small cafe.

**************************************************

I'd need to get work there somehow, and I knew exactly what I could do. I pulled my cellphone out and dialed a familiar number.

"Hello, Rion McKinley speaking, how may I help you?"
"Rion, it's Serena," I said.

I couldn't tell my mom. I tried, and I just couldn't. What's worse, she didn't try to make me.

**************************************************

Later, I had cried out every tear I had, but it wasn't enough.

Just as I'd parked my car outside the complex where I now lived, a spark of hope flared inside me.

No one ever would know.

I sprinted up the stairs, I just couldn't handle the idleness of taking the elevator. I needed to run.

I burst through the door and immediately headed for the hall closet.

I pulled out a large suitcase and stuffed as many of my clothes as I could in it.

**************************************************

Finally, I was packed. But I still wasn't done. There was one last thing I needed to do.

I ran into the kitchen, grabbed a pencil and pulled a pad of lilac paper out from under the phone.

"I love you. Will you be my girlfriend?" an unknown boy has ask me. I was struck with shock that I have a dumb look on my face.
"O-o-of c-course I will. I love you too." Wait. What?! What am I saying! Why the heck do I want to be this boy girlfriend?! Why am I in love with him?! Most importantly, WHO THE HECK IS THIS BOY?!
Ouch! I open my eyes, gazing up at the bumpy, white ceiling. Oh so all of that was just a dream. I sigh with relief but feeling disappointed at the same time. Awwww and here I thought someone finally confessed to a boring girl like me. Stupid dream!! Bring my hopes up for nothing!! I stare out of the window and saw rays of light shining through the curtain. Then I slowly turn to the direction of my alarm clock. Afraid to even look, I sneakily peek using only one eye to look at the time.
"8:40?!?!?!?!?! OH CRAP!!! I'M GOING TO BE LATE!!" I rushed to my closet. I grabbed a pair of jean that I first touch, but then i suddenly noticed there was a hole that you can't miss on the back where my butt is suppose to be! Note to self, make sure to tell mom...

About an hour after she called me, I was still sitting there. Unresponsive.

The phone rang again. I forced myself to pick it up.

It was Serena. She was crying.

"I couldn't do it," she said, before hanging up again.

Serena

I couldn't do it. As soon as I was out of the clinic, I drove home. When I'd parked my car, I couldn't hold the tears back.

I looked up, shocked. I had gone to my mother's house.

I stumbled out of the car, and my mother came running out. I collapsed in her warm arms, still sobbing.

Kate

I hear my daughter. Crying. I run outside, and hug my angel, my little angel.

I don't try to make her tell me what's wrong. She'll tell me when she wants to. I know her that well.

"Sign here, great. Sit down anywhere you'd like," a falsely cheerful, bleached blonde receptionist says.

I sit down on a plastic chair in the corner, next to a large plastic fern.

It's all just a nightmare. If I get the abortion, it will all go away, and everything will be fine, I try to convince myself. I give up eventually. What if my own mother, who was in a very similar situation to the one I am in now, had decided not t have me?

My thoughts are interrupted as a young looking woman with a small toddler on her hip walks up to me. I am the only other person here.

"Could you please hold Gina while I go sign in?" The woman asks me. I nodd, unable to do anything else. She carefully passes me the pixie-like little girl with light brown hair cut into a bob and sky blue eyes.

"My mommy likes violets," Gina announces, giving me a handful of crushed violets.
"I'll bet she does," I mutter.

"Your girlfriend called. She wanted to talk to you," Jason said.

I pushed past him and grabbed the phone. I punched in the correct numbers and Serena picked up on the first ring. She sounded as if she'd been crying.

"Are you alone?" she asked.
"Yes," I glanced at Jason's retreating form. He was going to basketball practice.
"It's important," she said, hesitantly.
"You can tell me," I said, patiently.
"God, I'm scared," she whispered.
"Of what?"

Suddenly, she screamed into the phone.

"What's wrong?" I asked.
"It's moving," she whispered again, sounding panicked.
"What is, Serena?" I probably sounded confused.
"I'm pregnant!" she screamed, sounding tortured.

I froze. I was pretty sure I wasn't breathing.

"Shaun?" she said, sounding terrified. "Are you mad at me?"
"I'm not." How could I be? You're the best thing that's ever happened to me. It's my fault. I'm the one who ruined your future.
