The men on the fallen one's left and right both collapsed as well. Declan caught a glimpse if silver as a throwing knife embedded in one's chest. He followed the arch up to one of the upper balconies.
There stood a feminine figure completely clad in solid black. A cowl was pulled up to hide the lower half of her face; her fair hair was pulled back in a long braid. She had one boot up on the railing, taking aim as she launched her blades at the intruders.
The doors of the ballroom were suddenly opened and guests starting rushing out in a desperate wave toward freedom and safety.
"Nic," Declan said, "take Riley."
"Where in bloody Hell are you going?" Nic said, accepting the terrified four-year-old.
"To help my sister." Nic blinked and Declan disappeared. He turned and joined the retreating civilians.
There where more masked-men than SilverWings had counted on. She had taken out the ones guarding the doors easy enough, but now, with civvies clambering over each other to reach the door, it was difficult to aim without them falling into her sights.
The young vigilante gave up on the deadly projectiles and slid the two in her hands back into the camouflaged belt. She leapt up onto the railing. An unmistakable thud, thud, thud sounded and Silver pitched forward as five bullets hit her in the back.
The goon stepped forward pointed his AK-47 at the vigilante, who hung from the balcony by one hand. The muzzle was aimed at one of the very few places the x-suit didn't protect- right between her eyes.
Silver could see his eyes widen beneath the clown-mask as blue electricity arched a web over his body.
His eyes rolled back into his head and he collapsed to the ground. A strong hand gripped Silver's and hauled her back up onto the balcony. She glanced at the dagger sticking out between the man's shoulder blades.
"Electric charged daggers? Nice touch, Double R," the blonde said.
Red Revenge nodded to the younger female. Both their heads snapped in the direction of a sudden scream. The black-and-blood-red-armored teleported below and Silver leapt over the railing.
The Joker smiled at the trembling girl. Her glittering green eyes widened with terror as the ghoulish clown from Hell ran a finger down a length of her short, fiery hair. Nightwing and Phoenix stood stalk still. The Kenways looked on in horror as the Joker examined Coda like a prize animal.
Revenge and Silver, who landed safely by his side, both took a step toward the maniac and terrified girl, hands on their weapons. Nightwing put a hand out, stopping them in their tracks. Joker cackled as he pressed the cocked pistol in his hand against Coda's torso.
"Let's play a game," Joker said, "You let me go, I don't kill the pretty girl. You take one step forward-" Coda whimpered as the cold of the steal seeped through her tight cocktail dress.
"Let her go!" Adam yelled angrily. His father kept a hand in his son's shoulder, keeping him from running to his sister's aid.
Joker grinned and wrapped an arm around Coda, who stiffened and looked at the heroes and her family with pleading eyes.
"Try to follow and this nice palace goes boom," Joker flashed a dead-man's trigger in his hand. Only then did Silver notice the thin rope that stretched upward out the crashed sky lights. The villain grinned wickedly, tightened his hold on Coda, and was pulled upward out if sight. The three remaining goons (out of the original 30) began to rise behind their master. In a flash, a blade sprouted in each henchmen's chest. The fell to the ground with a thud, all dead.
A man appeared beside Aryess. He pulled back the hood of his navy-blue cloak and looked solemnly at the weeping mother in Jasper's arms, the grieving expression of Adam and his father, the solitude in the way the two heroes and three vigilantes held themselves. He stepped forward to retrieve his blades.
A team of S.W.A.T rushed into the room. Emily, who had gotten separated from the others, pushed past them and ran to her fiancé's arms.
"I... She..." Adam said beside them shakily. Jasper pulled his brother into the group hug, and soon the boys' mother and father joined them. They and the fallen clowns were the sole occupants of the glass littered room.
Batman flew through the cover of the clouds. His radar detected the Joker's helicopter and guided him over the ocean. Suddenly, the green blip dropped off his scanner. The Dark Knight narrowed his eyes at the change. He arced the Batwing back around and reached New York City soon after.
He spotted a crowd of civilians outside of a skyscraper. They were dressed in evening gowns and tuxedos. A hero and two vigilantes hid somewhere in the crowd posing as civilians. Another vigilante and her twin brother stood on the roof, silhouetted by the moon's casted light.
"What now?" Nix asked. Her black hair blew subtly in the breeze.
"Now," the Cape Crusader responded, "we wait."
