Finally got the inspiration to write it!!!!!!!! Once again, all previous parts are in my favorites. xD
“Why don’t you ask my friends--your friends--about that?”
The three kids looked first to the woman’s still body, then to each other, and up to the crowd of Leaguers that had surrounded them. Confusion and disbelief clouded their faces, quickly fading to anger as the meaning of the fallen villain's words registered with them. Chandler was the first to react; his cornflower-blue eyes widened, then narrowed as he gritted his teeth. Without warning, he let out a strangled cry and lunged forward towards Nathan, who had Nix’s limp body slung over his shoulder. Tears stung Lily’s eyes, but she resolutely grabbed onto Chandler’s arms, dragging him back before he could hurt any of the Leaguers. Chandler, sputtering with rage, tried to wrestle out of her grip, but she held on tightly.
“What the hell did that mean?” Chandler practically spat at the Justice Leaguers. “Shit--motherfucking--assholes!--bullshit--you don’t--what the fuck?”
“You’ve really been in league with our parents’ killer?” Lily growled, translating Chandler’s statement into normal English. Annabelle, who had thus far been silent, let out a wail. “Why?” she sobbed, latching onto the first available leg, which happened to belong to AngelWings.
AngelWings looked down at the girl, her gray eyes softening. “We weren’t the ones who killed your parents, if that’s what you were worried about.”
Annabelle only sobbed harder; Lily narrowed her eyes, and Chandler struggled violently against her grasp. “It’s not,” Lily growled, green eyes flashing.
“Kids,” Nathan said solemnly. “I believe some explanations are in order.” They nodded, and he continued. “The woman who killed Ais--your parents--, the one who you were fighting, is Blade. I don’t know if your parents ever told you, but when we were teenagers, she was a part of our team. When she was around eighteen, however, she committed a crime. I won’t go into all the details, but it was a pretty nasty one. And then when she wouldn’t own up--we had no choice but to let her go. We hadn’t seen her since. Well, until about four days ago, when we were out on a mission. She came out of nowhere, and bam! We were lucky she hadn’t killed more of us before we managed to get away. I-I’m sorry kids. I don’t think any of us knew she was a traitor.”
The children hung their heads; Annabelle detached herself from AngelWings’ legs and trudged over to her older siblings. She happened to look up, then, and her eyes fell on Nix’s body, still slumped over Nathan’s back, and broke out sobbing again.
“Is she really d-d-dead?” To her surprise, the Leaguers smiled.
“No,” AngelWings replied, and the small girl’s face lit up.
“But then how--” Lily asked suspiciously.
“While you three were fighting, we examined the bullet that shot Nix. Lead, with a copper jacket.” He held up a small object, clearly a spare bullet taken from the gun. Lily still didn’t understand; that was clear from her face.
“The bullet would’ve killed any normal human, but not your Nix. I don’t know if you knew this, but Nix can’t really die. The only weapon she’s not immune to is gold. It’s not clear if Blade didn’t know this, or if she just forgot, or if there was some other reason for not loading her gun with golden bullets, but Phoenix will probably be awake in a few hours’ time.”
The kids were flooded with relief; the somber mood dissipated, replaced with something a little more comfortable. Eclipse stepped forward, smiling.
“I just wanted to congratulate you on your victory just now. The three of you, who we all thought to be mere children, proved that you can take down a formidable enemy such as Blade. You showed courage, bravery, strength, and determination, all qualities of a hero.” The kids smiled, looking up at her expectantly. She grinned, and shook their hands.
“Midnight Streak, Coda, Firefly--” Annabelle beamed at Phoebe’s use of her hero name. “Welcome to the League.”
Their spirits were soaring, their minds racing. Finally, they were being recognized as heroes; it didn’t matter anymore that it took two dead parents, an unconscious Nix, and a possibly killed Blade to get the League to understand. The mood had turned happy, jovial even. Suddenly, Harley turned to Chandler.
“Aren’t you 11?” Chandler nodded. “Then how on earth did you learn those words?”
Chandler gave a sheepish grin, and pointed to Nix’s still form. Understanding crossed Harley’s face as she turned a discriminating eye towards the unconsious hero and the others burst out laughing.
Suddenly, the laughter stopped; the Leaguers’ faces went deathly pale. Lily turned to where they were staring, and her blood froze cold. For there, face smashed and blood-streaked, singed blonde hair rippling in the wind, red eyes swollen and glinting with revenge, stood Blade.
Sorry this part was kinda boring. Just a bunch of explanations. Comment maybe? Fave? Rate? Pweeeease?? Ash’s life depends on it! *holds knife to Aisling’s throat* Ash: Dude, I’m already dead. But it wouldn’t hurt to read anyway *winkwinknudgenudgepokepoke*
