Chapter Ten- "A Quick Review"
Okay, so things didn't go well in Rio De Janeiro.
That's Robin--Nightwing in my ear telling me it's an understatement. Shut up, Dick.
Anyway, we're headed to Russia now, G. Gordon Godfrey, Batman, and the rest of the Justice League reaming our butts for the death of the Russian finalist.
As if we didn't feel bad enough for the loss of one life, World War III is about to be on our heads. But before I go any further, let me go back to what had happened before.
<17 Hours before...>
I jumped down after the assassin Holly, but she was already gone. I landed on the stage instead, taking out Shadows rising from every angle on the stage along with police officers and Russian bodyguards.
"Since when," I asked aloud, batting away a guard's gun and knocking him to the ground. "Was everyone against us?"
"Since the Russian finalist gets shot on our watch." Nightwing said, landing beside me. "Careful with the guards and Russians!"
I nodded, only giving the guard a broken nose instead of a broken face.
"And save a Shadow for me." Nightwing added. "Batgirl, what happened to the other assassin?"
As if on cue, the girl swings over the stage, followed by daggers and a black and red vigilante.
"Who was that?" I asked at the same time Aremis yells: "Is he following me?"
"I assume you two've met?" I asked.
"That's an understatement." Nightwing muttered, hitting a Shadow in the face with his escrim stick.
The vigilante flew into the stage creating a hole big enough I decided to step around. The assassin followed him, trying to land a blow to his face. The kid caught the fist though, and tossed her across the stage.
"Revenge, require any assistance?" Nightwing asked with a smirk.
"Nah, I'm fine. Just a bit of friendly competition." The vigilante replied.
"Revenge?" I asked. "And I thought Batman's name was generic."
"It's actually Red Revenge." Nightwing said. "Call him anything else and you'll be tied from the top of a building before you can say 'sorry'."
"Noted." I replied, punching one of the last guards in the face.
"Cheshire's fleeing!" Artemis yelled. "Pursuing!"
"Roger, Wondergirl, follow!" Nightwing yelled.
The blonde nodded and flew off after the archer.
A fist slammed into my face and I stumbled backwards, wiping the blood from my mouth. 'Focus Barbara!' I criticized. I lunged forward and knocked the guy down. I noticed Revenge and Holly fleeing.
"Why does Red Revenge not give any warning?" I asked.
Nightwing picked up a Shadow and rammed him into the wall. "He's not on our Team." he said. "Now then, give me some answers. Why are you after Grant?"
The Shadow spoke in Russian, but I managed to decipher what he said.
"You can't understand me, and even if you could. You wouldn't get anything out of me."
"I can." I said.
"And you already have." Nightwing added, throwing him to the ground. He squatted next to him. "Tell your boss we're coming."
The man scrambled backward and ran away.
Dick and I had just finished cleaning the area of the unconscious soldiers when Wondergirl and Artemis walked back in, Artemis looking even more aggravated. Robin and Kid Flash had reported in earlier. Everyone was accounted for.
"Where's the assassins?" Nightwing asked.
Wondergirl shrugged. "Dunno. They disappeared from view, led us into Red Revenge."
"Explains Artemis's sour mood." Nightwing smirked.
Several hours later we discovered that the Russian finalist had been killed by the shot. The media was all over us for allowing him to get shot in the first place.
As if we didn't feel bad enough.
Then, to add to the chaos, Russia declares war on the United States. They blame the President for 'sending your American heroes to assassinate our finalist'.
After heavy research by Batman, it turns out the finalist was a Russian spy. Not that that will help in the negotiations.
Oh! I almost forgot the final piece of the pie. On top of all of what was/is previously happening, Samuel Grant decides to go to Russia and negotiate since the President can't leave, and the Vice President is unreachable on vacation.
So Dick, sorry, Nightwing, has decided to take me and Cassie to Russia to help protect the idiot who had started WWIII.
Boy, Im gonna have a lot of explaining when I finally get back home and to dad.
