The Elements!!

The elements are called at the beginning of every ritual at the House of Night. When calling the elements, those in the circle must face the respective cardinal directions - East for Air, South for Fire, West for Water, North for Earth and Center for Spirit.



While Zoey Redbird has been gifted with an affinity for all five elements, her friends have also received elemental gifts from Nyx.



AIR



Air is associated with mental processes, creativeness, higher consciousness, wisdom and our ideas about the Universe. (5)

FIRE



Fire is associated with both physical and spiritual powers, energy and passion. (5)



Fire is called with the lighting of a red candle. (M)



Shaunee Cole has an affinity for Fire. (B)



When Zoey calls Fire to the circle, Shaunee and she can feel the warmth of a roaring fire. In fact, most times the lighter doesn't need to touch the wick of the candle to make it burst with flame. (M)

WATER



Water is associated with the subconscious mind, love, religion, intuition, and emotions. It is the primal substance of life and is symbolized by the womb and fertility. (5)



Water is called with the lighting of a blue candle. (M)



Erin Bates has an affinity for Water. (B)



When Zoey calls Water to the circle, Erin and she can smell the scent of the ocean. (B)

EARTH



Earth represents abundance, prosperity, wisdom, and practical knowledge. Earth sustains all life. (5)



Earth is called with the lighting of a green candle. (M)



Stevie Rae Johnson has an affinity for Earth. (B)



Her affinity is shared with Aphrodite LaFonte while Stevie Rae makes the transition into a red vampyre. (C)



When Zoey calls Earth to the circle, Stevie Rae, Aphrodite and she can smell fresh cut grass and fields. (B)

SPIRIT



Spirit represents the mystical aspect of spiritual belief. It is the source of love and compassion. (5)



Spirit is called with the lighting of a purple candle. (M)



When Zoey calls Earth to the circle, she can feel Nyx's presence all around her. (M)
