PARIS, October 3, 2007 – Last-chance alert: If you've ever harbored any vague fantasy about owning a Valentino, act now, or kick yourself forever. The designer's final ready-to-wear show before handing over the keys to his house was always going to be a souvenir-hunter's prime opportunity, but far better than that, it turned out to be one of his most appealingly modern collections in quite a while.

If there's a problem, it's only being spoiled for choice. What to pick from the head-spinning plethora of dresses on offer? It could be something from the brief, sugar-pink group...

First Viktor and Rolf bags!

The first V&R bags - big, shiny patent objects .

A real wannahave!

brought the show back to reality. The rest was peaceful, without a hint of the irony expected from the designers. The clothes were as they appeared on the runway: wide pants and tops, soft dresses. And no fashion mimicry.

ONLY at Viktor & Rolf could a model open the show walking through a wall-sized image of a wide-open mouth. And if that didn't get your attention then the exaggerated Pierrot collars adorned in pink and white violins certainly will. Paying homage to Marcel Marceau and the art of mime, the Dutch duo who are known for their conceptual approach to fashion (last season's lighting rig constructions anyone?), brought us their signature wit and charm in a romantic collection that combined their talent for sharp tailoring and eccentric detailing.
