In the original series of Star Trek, Commander Spock and Lieutenant Uhura have relatively little contact. But there are hints that they might enjoy a more-than-purely-professional relationship.
In The Man Trap, Uhura is “just trying to start a conversation” with Spock when she asks him to tell her that she’s attractive and to describe the romantic moonlight on Vulcan. This meta written by Bana05 is particularly interesting as she raises some valid points about fandoms, slash and how black women are handled and perceived in fic.

A lot of people are missing so many details of what this relationship means in the context of the movie, as well as TOS canon.
