over a year ago: While I think the comparison holds some truth one has to consider that livestock have been bred over the course of centuries to be human food. If we stopped eating them and released them into the wild they would all go extinct. The same goes for house pets which Peta argues against. I would never have a lion or a wolf as a pet because they are wild animals that need to be free or in a zoo to aid in the continuation of their species. I would never eat deer or pheasant because their survival doesn't depend on me eating them.

Humans are wild animals. We haven't been bred since the dawn of agriculture to be food for vamps. This is more of a debate between eating meat from a farm or meat from hunting. If humans volunteered or were paid for donating blood to vamps, the more power to 'em but randomly attacking wild animals when you can get food from farm animals is wrong.

over a year ago: I think she wanted too but he's not human enough to have seksay tiems even if he wanted to. Before he was vanquished by Harry the first time, he was primarily asexual. He was too insecure to experience real intimacy with another person because he would be too vulnerable. Being naked is an extremely vulnerable position physically and psychologically. There's nothing to hide behind. I doubt he ever had sex or, at least, consensual sex.

over a year ago: I think the major love story throughout the course of Buffy and Angel wasn't between Buffy and Angel; it was Spike and Angel. Even when they were apart they influenced each other as Spike was the symbol of Angel's wickedness and Angel was a symbol of what Spike could be.

over a year ago: I don't think Fred and Angelina really dated. They just went to one dance together and it was a casual thing. He literally yelled across the room to invite her. I think they just went as friends and maybe did a little snogging but the relationship ended at that.

over a year ago: I know in certain branches of Protestantism children are baptized shortly after being born. I was baptized before I had a hair on my head (which isn't a good descriptor considering I was bald until I was three!) but many of divisions wait until the child is mature enough to make a conscious choice to be baptized but even then the decision is swayed by parents and the community. It is encouraged in most Protestant churches for a person to be baptized later in life when they "found God" even if they were baptized as a baby.

over a year ago: I think that would give the series a sense of closure and a bit of hopefulness for Mr. Monk moving on with his life.

over a year ago: I think it's realistic for Harry to go OMG I SUDDENLY LOVE GINNY because he has so many issues about needing a parent's love. Ginny looks and acts like his mother and pulls pranks like his father. He was in crisis and Ginny was someone who was always there and now she was sexually desirable. He badly wanted to be a "real" member of the Weasley clan. What I find BS about the pairing is that Ginny and Harry stayed together so long when the foundation of their relationship was slipshod. Hopefully they went through some counseling after the war and worked out their issues.

Cinders, to say that someone is "just a surface reader" for not getting the same message from a text or having a different interpretation thereof is condescending. We all have varying experiences that shape our understanding of art. No one interpretation of a text--even the author's intended meaning--is correct. Your comment about "surface readers" and ElvenAmerican's comment above state that there is one right meaning and that is yours. I know you wouldn't accept this objective reality mentality when discussing global issues as you are a very sensitive and understanding person especially when it some to people from a culture different for your own. Your celebration of diversity should extend to art analysis as it is our experiences and culture that help us form opinions on art. Many of the conflicts that occur on Fanpop are due to people having differing opinions on art (i.e. ships, who's good, who's evil) but if everyone realized that a variety of interpretations keeps the fandom alive and interesting then we would have far less drama.

over a year ago: Van Helsing would let you get bit, wait two weeks, find out that you've been bit, do some research, battle his own skepticism, accept that you've been bit by a vampire, concoct an elaborate scheme to save you, travel around Europe, destroy some dirt, and then come back and be like "You're welcome." Buffy would just stab the vamp before it got to me and maybe we'd get some food afterward.
