inFamous and Prototype review

Review posted 4 months ago
Video Games There's been a strange amount of hype/flame-warring about inFamous and Prototype so I decided I'd have a go at doing a sort of....comparative review(?)

Both games are open-world, third-person view, (gruff voiced) super-hero (or anti-hero) games. Alex Mercer, the protagonist of Prototype uses his own body as his weapon, morphing it into whatever he needs. As well as morphing, he is virtually bullet proof and can.... run up walls? Cole McGrath, the protagonist of inFamous uses lightning and parkour abilities.

No pain, no game

Oracle of Seasons, one of the most frustrating games in my memory but also one of my all-time favourites.
It occurred to me recently that modern gamers are.... wimps. I'm not excluding myself here.

Whenever a gamer is punished for failure, such as a lives system they moan, they whine and they throw their controllers and say "games shouldn't have these features". The fact is that we are spoilt. A lot of next-gen games give players cheap thrills, immediate fun with no long-term fun or big hills to climb over.

The lives systems and game over screens give a game violent ups and downs, but I believe in some cases the pros outweigh the cons and I'd hate something so marvellous...

The end of couch-multiplayer?

Opinion posted 10 months ago

What remains of couch-multiplayer:
When I first started writing drafts for this article I was going to write about the next-gen consoles leaving out good ol' couch; but after mulling over it, I came to the conclusion that both online and couch multiplayer are equally in use, though they are separated by the console boundaries.

Recently I've noticed that a lot of FPS's seem to be online-multiplayer only and that there is no couch-multiplayer mode in these games. "What a pain" I thought to myself, 360 controller in hand, sat next to a Wii owner. Clearly we would not be playing this game together any time soon....

PS3 review, and ranking the next-gens

Now that can't be right....
Yes, it’s that that time again when I spend ridiculous amounts of money on a console and whinge about it. Having now played and owning all three next-gen consoles, I’ll be giving a fair sum-up at the end, as last time I had to take a stab in the dark at the PS3 experience. A guided stab in the dark, mind you, having heard much about it and the game library (crickets chirping) it has in store for players. Anyway, let’s get right into it....

I’ll skip the description of set-up and online-sign-up, as I’d be reiterating what I said about the 360 with the exception of it...

Fable 2 Review

On the right: "The Cow and Corset"
I know this review is a tad late but I've had a lot of stuff to do :S

Fable 2 is a third-person, action RPG based in the word of Albion, which is similar (even geographically) to Britain. This instalment is set in the 1700s(ish), which kind of put me off at first. I loved the first Fable and the semi-medieval feel of it. Though it may differ graphically to Fable 1, Fable 2 is still a very colourful, beautiful world (except the people, they could do with some major face-lifts)
