If there's anything that I've learned from being involved in Fanpop for the last three years, it's that people are more sensitive than you think. It's easy to see all the bravado and the tough talk from nearly anonymous people on the web and on Fanpop, but it's also easy to forget that each user is a real human with complex emotions and personalities.
Having a site specifically pointing out people's mistakes and failures for the purposes of humor can be hurtful depending on who is being teased. Some people take teasing very well and can find the hilarity and humor while others... not so much. The thing is, we don't know who is who - and teasing the wrong person going through the wrong stage in their life with their particular troubles and concerns could hurt them more than intended. If something like that contributes to depression or worse, then that puts Fanpop in a really bad position.
You guys have to remember, we're just four guys doing our best. If anything bad happens (for example, someone spends a lot of time on Fanpop and makes a bunch of friends, but then makes a hilarious typo, has it posted to a blog on the internet which makes it permanent, then his friends are laughing at him, he feels alone, other stuff happens, he attempts suicide, Fanpop is mentioned as a contributing factor, we're out of business and four families are without income and you no longer have Fanpop to use), we may or may not be able to survive it.
If you guys love Fanpop, try to make it a better place (like you're doing) but also try to be empathetic and sympathetic to others and to us.
