I need some advice on an absentee father.

*deep sigh* You see, my father hasn't been in my life most of the time. I lived with him up until I was ten months old, but then something happened (something chaotic, all I can say) that made him hand me over to my grandmother and step-grandfather. I lived with them for a while, and after some time my mother left rehab and lived with us too. From the ages of eight to around nine or ten, I would see my dad and my half-brother on weekends sometimes. But then came the night were my dad started drinking (again), and he ususally got violent when he drank. So I didn't see him after that.

The last time I saw him was when I was ten and he was with his girlfriend and my then baby half-brother, Zvi.

I think I called him one time, but..well, it didn't go well.

I haven't heard from him or seen him since, until just fifteen minutes ago.

My mom told me that he called after she took him to court for Child Support. She gave him a picture (he thought I looked like mom --EEEK!--but everyone says I look like my dad, but anyways), he called and told her that his grandmother (my great-grandmother) died, and he wants me at the funeral. Should I go?

Well here are some questions:
1. Did you know your great grandmother at all?
2. Do YOU want to go to the funeral?
3. Is your dad in a right state at the moment (Is he drinking)?

The choice is up to you and if you want to go thats great, but if you do go I think you should keep your safety in mind while you're there.

P.S. you totally have my sympathy.
