With the rise in brutal verbal beatings on the internet these days, with kids telling other kids things they would NEVER have said to them in person, I think it's important to point out some words that should slide right off your back.
That being said, I know it's easier to pretend that words don't hurt when they actually do. This list of words, are words that I have learned not to take offensively, and I will give you an example of why each one doesn't bother me. This way, if you ever feel yourself stung by the verbal attacks of an insecure online "friend," you can read this article and know that A) you're not alone and B) we're here to help.
List of Words That Will Never Hurt Me
1) Gay. My actual sexual orientation aside, I have never, nor will I ever, consider the words "gay" or "lesbian" an insult. First of all, because some of the sweetest, funniest, bravest people I know are gay or lesbian. And second of all, if it's homophobic straight people who want to use it as an insult, well, let's just say I'd rather be "gay" then like them.
