Alias and Pretender

Has anyone noticed the connection between Pretender and Alias? Patrick Bauchau who played Sydney on Pretender, had a small role in Alias, whose main character is Sydney. Both shows involve shadowy organizations uncovering Ancient information regarding bloodlines. I think the writers of Alias were influenced by Pretender which also had a lovable tech nerd, similar to Alias' lovable tech nerd.
