Why were all the airbenders killed when Rokku died? Wouldn't the Avatar have just been reborn in a waterbender if he was killed? This has always confused me.
The Avatar Cycle is FIRE-->AIR-->WATER-->EARTH, Souzen killed all the Airbenders because he knew the Avatar would be reborn as one, and only he could oppose the Fire Nation
It is the Avatars duty to keep the balance between the four nations, seeing as the Fire Nation has the largest military the other nations couldnt fight back they could only defend. They needed the Avatar
Yes they would be reborn, but it would take another 14-16yrs for them to be old enough to challenge them, and how would the new Avatar learn Airbending if all of them are dead...thats why Souzen never stopped looking for the Avatar, tey never confirmed his death...and after so long evryone lost faith in the Avatar and went on with their lives
The Fire nation was trying to speed up the Avatar cycle to get a fire nation avatar, the ultimate weapon. They were brainwashing the youth of the fire nation to obey the Fire Lord. Kinda like Hitler. See episode of the Headband. Rules were made for comformity and oaths to the Fire Lord were sworn. Anyone who didn't obey was sent to the coal mines for the good of the Fire Nation. Like I said it was a lot like Hitler.
