How do I love thee, Barbara? Let me count the ways.

Barbara Stanwyck is a legend. More than that she personifies what is womanly, mysterious, glorious, imaginative, beautiful, strong, enduring, endearing, powerful, magical, fun, optimistic in life and in theatre. Not one to display theatrics or uncontrolled emotions when accepting awards on stage in front of an audience, Barbara Stanwyck is a fine inspiration and role model for women.

I think women accepting Academy Awards, Golden Globes, or other 'gongs' today should look at a video of Barbara before they go to any award ceremony. These women would know how to act after seeing Barbara handle these emotional moments onstage.

Ms Stanwyck's longevity in the movie industry speaks volumes. Thank God the fans have these movies because she chose not to write one of those scandalous expose type novels about showbiz people she knew. Her classiness and strong ethics shine through 6 decades of motion pictures instead of on the pages of a bestseller, which her book certainly would have been.

She was disciplined - always in remarkable good shape. She was magnificent. I wish I could have met her once in person. I wish I had a grave to visit, but Barbara's ashes are scattered in her favorite place Lone Pine, California.

She left this world in 1990 at age 82 when, at a hospital in Santa Monica she succumbed to congestive heart failure caused by pneumonia and emphysema. If only the lure of cigarette smoke was not so prevalent in those sultry films noir, perhaps her passing may have been an easier one but I can't blame her. Everyone smoked in those days. I only can hope someone was by her side when she took those last breaths. I am with her in spirit.

I want to visit Lone Pine, California. I want to breathe that air where Barbara's ashes floated to the ground. For now, dear Ms Ruby Catherine Stevens I am content to have you as my inspiration - for now and always. See you at the movies.

I want to add one of the main attributes which I think adds to Barbara's allure is she is so mysterious - a very womanly quality. You never know which way she's going to go in her portrayals of characters. She keeps the audience so intrigued!

I am 58 years old and just recently knew about Barbara Stanwyck's movie stardom. I remembered her only as Victoria on "The Big Valley" and just watched those TV programs with a casual interest. Of course Barbara was older than and I guess that may have been part of the reason I didn't pay too much attention to her. Well, recently, on Turner Classic Movies, I saw a young Barbara Stanwyck in the movie "Union Pacific". I couldn't believe how pretty she was and she played her role so well. This was the first time I knew that she was a movie actress. Anyway, I became intrigued by her and went on line to find out more about her. I was so fascinated with what I found, that she was such a talented, loved, and famous actress that I now watch every movie I can with her. I now want to know everything possible about her. I agree with the earlier posting, I sure wish I would have had the opportunity to have met her. Or at least to have been able to write her to let her know how much I admired her. For Barbara to have been loved by both cast and crew alike speaks volumes about her as both an actress and a person. It is amazing what she did to help great actors such as William Holden become such a successful movie star also. She was such a private person that I guess that is why I didn't know very much about her past. She was not on the TV talk shows so someone such as myself did not have the opportunity to know about her great career. I believe she would have been my soul mate. She was self made; poor, high school dropout, and both parents deceased. She obviously worked very hard at being such a great actress but she had a god given talent also to know the best way to play her many different roles. Well, I guess anyone can see what I think of this unbelievable person. Hopefully, someday, there will be a biography of Barbara Stanwyck's personal life as well. I read where she was as generous in her private life, with charities as an example, as she was in her professional life. If anyone knows whether Barbara Stanwyck (as Lee), in the movie "Remember the Night" actually played the piano and the piece wasn't dubbed, I would love to know. It sounded so nice, I didn't know that along with her other talents, Barbara could play the piano so well.
