I found this video on making a mojito to be pretty solid (it's from Epicurious and they're usually pretty solid). This bartender shows you some pretty good techniques and tricks.

Watch the video for the recipe. But here are the ingredients you'll need (but not the proportions):
* Light Rum
* Fresh Mint
* Limes
* Sugar
* Crushed Ice
* Soda Water

The only real equipment he uses is a muddler (for crushing the mint). He mixes it right in the glass. No shaker necessary.
