I'm currently researching for my dissertation, I'm looking into whether or not comic book movie adaptations need to be faithful to their source material in order to be considered successful.

depends on what you mean as faithful. it deosnt have to follow it to the letter, at the same time staying close is agood idea. as long as you keep the esscence of the charcter its okay to diverge a little.
