Thirty years ago if you told me the best science fiction series on television would be Battlestar Galactica I would look at you like you were insane, because way back then when the original BSG aired I was not a fan. I watched it because of the scarcity of sf programming on the three major networks.(Yes kiddies way back then there was no cable, much less the Sci-Fi Channel, and you only had three networks to chose from.) I found the original BSG nothing more than a blatant Star Wars ripoff that ripped off classic movies like High Noon and Ice Station Zebra. So when ABC cancellled BSG I did not shed a tear.
When I heard that Sci-Fi was going to revive BSG i was horrified first by the thought but when I was delighted to find out this BSG is a totally diffrent animal. The creators of the new BSG have taken a rather silly space opera and turned into a parable of our post 9/11 world. The producers, writers, directors and,of course, the actors should be lauded in their effrots to transform BSG into one of the best sf series in the history of television. I will surly miss this BSG when it
ends it run next year.
