Bette Davis was born in Lowell, Massachusetts on April 5th 1908. Davis' mother said she demanded attention since the day she was born. Her parents divorced at an early age and she and her sister were raised by their mother. She was denied admittance to the Manhattan Civic Repertory. They consider Davis to be boisterous. She graduated from John Murrary Anderson's Dramatic School where they thought of her as the "star" student. After graduation, Davis appeared in many off broadway plays. In 1930 she was hired by Universal. A representive went to greet her at the train station when she arrived in Hollywood, but returned empty handed because he didn't see anyone with movie star looks. After 6 small films Universal did not renew her contract. She set off for broadway when Warner Brothers called with a seven year contract. Her first movie with Warner Brothers was "The Man Who Played God" landed her star status. She was the first Warner Brothers actress to win an academy award.
