Golden Compass Adaption - good or bad?

In all honesty the books will always be the best for me. However, I went into that movie theater, after keeping an eye on the trailers and news associated with the film for YEARS prior with no expectation that the movie would beat the books. But I did expect it to be a fairly decent movie. And it was for the most part. I really enjoyed it as a movie. Then the credits started rolling... I was absolutely appalled that the scene I had been looking forward to seeing the most and had gotten tantalizing glimpses of in most of the trailers leading up to the film's release had been CUT! That just killed it for me. I could not stop my mind from being disappointed even though the movie had kept me entertained up to that point. The disappointment was just too much and it overwhelmed the rest of the merits of the film. So while the movie was ok and COULD have been GREAT I think the cutting of those final exhilarating scenes really killed it for fans of the books more than anything else.

I think it was only an okay adaptation. The books to me are masterpieces so I knew it would be hard for the film to live up to them. It was quite good really, nothing to rave about though and that's what got me. I could rave for weeks about those books they're definitely part of my all time favourites so it was a bit of a let down when I didn't feel the same love for the movie.
