Is Life of Pi a true story?

there is that little author's note thing at the beginning saying how Yann Martel met Pi Patel. i dont realy believe the whole thing could have happened, though. so is it true or not?

No, it's a work of fiction. The author's note in the beginning is only to create the mood and atmosphere of a true story, in order to make it more enjoyable I guess. I don't know if you've ever read "The Princess Bride," but this is sort of like it in that respect. It's such a fantastic book though, so full of symbolism and metaphors it makes me dizzy.

Oh, it's sooo good. Lol, but the STORY isn't like The Princess Bride, sorry if I confused you! I mean, it's like The Princess Bride in that the author of Life of Pi wrote it under the pretense that it was a true story, but it's really not, it just serves to better the story. Same with The Princess Bride, the author writes as if he's editing the original story, but he's really not, it just adds to the story. I still recommend Life of Pi though!

The entire point of the story is trust based. The investigators don't believe his story, but nothing can be done because they've only one witness who cannot testify- a royal bengal tiger that they believe doesn't even exist.

Personally, I believe him.
