I was constantly read to, and read along with my Mom, so reading independently was kind of a gradual thing, and I can't separate between what was read to me, and what I read myself, so I can never say for sure. Picture books, certainly. Like sexielegs, I think I remember learning to love reading in fourth grade, when I read James and the Giant Peach. I really got into Lois Duncan books in fifth and sixth grade. I think she was my first "favorite author."

I'd say when I was 5 or 6 I read Dr. Seuss and Roald Dahl the most (BFG ftw!). Harry Potter was the first novel I really got into though. It's probably the reason I'm so devoted to books. I think I was about 8.

The first book I ever read by myself was called "I Can Fly!" It went like this: "Up, up, up. Down, down, down. Up, up, up. Down, down, down. Up, up, up. Down, down, down. I can fly!" :) Heh. I was four.
My first independently-read chapter book was probably a Magic Tree House book. Those were awesome. :) |
